Pre Thanksgiving Shenanigans: 11/13-19 Weekly Wrap

I’d like to say it was a quiet week. I don’t mind the cooking/baking for Thanksgiving, but the cleaning? How do you guys clean, work, and have a life? Seriously. It felt like all I did was clean this week.

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin to show that cleaning wasn’t the only thing I did this week.

Wednesday

Apparently my 15k took a bit more out of me than I expected, so I took an extra rest day. And because I’d been feeling a bit eh, I thought I’d run on the treadmill. Not as much getting sweaty then chilled.

But it was sunny. I warmed up with Bandit, who appreciated no coat & went with me 2.25 miles — longest in quite some time for him. And even though I had 4 on the plan, I did 5. I was tempted to stick to the 4 because I ended up running at lunchtime and I was hungry. But it was just such a nice day and I felt a lot better. Thankfully I felt fine the next day, too.

Friday

Another super windy and cold day. Despite the bright sunshine, with a gazillion errands to run and chores around the house, I chose to stay on the treadmill. It takes far less time to throw on a pair of shorts and a top then bundle up for “feels like 20s”.

I “ran” out of time and had to cut this run a tad short. I never do that, but I just didn’t have enough time to get in a longer run.

All the leaves are brown, and the skies are gray

Saturday

Some of the Wineglass girls braved the frigid cold — yes, it really feels like winter already — to get together for a group run. While the rest got together for coffee/breakfast afterwards, I had to head straight home because we were leaving for Bennington, VT.

Darlene insisted we needed a photo record

Favorites of the week
Going away the weekend before Thanksgiving wasn’t my idea, but I made the best of it, despite nasty weather, with good eats, contributing to the local economy, and some movies.

Since we just got home, here’s a little photo journal of the trip:

Good eats

More good eats

And yes, this was as awesome as it looks
Sadly there were no apples left 😦

Typical VT

We stopped at Bennington Potters

Got a fascinating private tour

And there was some retail therapy, too (which will appear on my Thanksgiving table)

I downloaded Megan Leavy, which we watched Saturday night. A cool story — the movie was good, but nothing that special. We also went to see “Thor Ragnarok” today. There wasn’t really a whole lot of plot, but it was entertaining and Cate Blanchett makes a great villain.

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

Would you go away the weekend before Thanksgiving if you were hosting?

Are you a fan of Marvel tv & movies?

Watcha making for Thanksgiving?

    1. Even with someone in every other week I’m pretty sure that you still have to clean. 🙂

Mr. Judy once got me a couple of cleaning appointments as a birthday gift. I thought it was the best gift ever — until I actually tried to book it! Once I finally got them here, it was great.

I would like someone in like before Thanksgiving to do the heavy lifting, so to speak. I can handle the cooking/baking, but the cleaning — ugh! Endless & can’t really be done ahead of time.

  1. I’ve participated in Friendsgiving the last few years, and I know it helped the hosts to not have to worry about everything. I’ll be making some things on Wednesday ahead of time, which make things a lot easier.

    1. Ha! In my mind, Wednesday is not ahead of time. 🙂 My sister is bringing a dessert. And that’s about it. No doubt my mom will bring something I’ll have to make room for which actually doesn’t make things easier . . . Otherwise, it’s all up to me. Sometimes my niece or nephew do bring something, but basically, it’s a one woman show.

I don’t mind that part of it. As I say over & over — it’s the cleaning! Throw on top of that Lola’s dental tomorrow; seriously, what WAS I thinking? Oh yeah, that we’ve already had to postpone it twice. 😦

  2. My cleaning is sporadic. So much of my issue is not dirt/dust, but clutter (and most of the clutter is not mine). A lot of it gets put in boxes and bags for the hubby to go through (at his convenience), then a new pile starts within 24 hours LOL I’m hosting Thanksgiving (as I do every year…I honestly don’t mind because I have the space for it). I have learned to make a bunch of the food the evening prior (corn casserole, dressing, pumpkin pie) and do the potatoes first thing in the morning (while the hubby gets the turkey ready for the oven) and then the potatoes go in the crock pot. That just leaves setting the table and making the gravy (as the bird is getting carved). Easy peasy (well, somewhat).

    1. Mine is both cleaning & decluttering. No way I could get it all done the night before! Heck, just buying everything has kept me in the grocery store non-stop for like the last week or so (but now I’m done with that).

I actually do like that it’s at my house rather than having to go to my sister’s.

    1. Mine is me & my husband, my parents, my sister & BIL, my niece, my nephew & his food blogger girlfriend whom I haven’t yet met. She reviews restaurants, so I *think* I’m safe.

It was always my mom’s big holiday, so there’s a little pressure there, but we all get along well, so that helps. But about 90% of it falls on me. Just one day, right?

    1. Nah, I’m not all about the pics. Obviously!

There were definitely lots of good food last weekend. There isn’t a whole lot to do there, but there are some good restaurants. We’ve driven through many times but this is the first time we’ve stayed over.

I hope to get back in nicer weather for some hiking. The nice thing about it is it’s not far away.

  3. Woke up to snow on the ground today!! Not ready for that!!

Too bad you crummy weather. VT has so many beautiful hiking locales. Here it was gray, windy and cold all weekend.

I am going to my MIL for the holiday 😦

not sure if I will have time to make my squash soup Wed after work & packet pick-up in Troy. I would have made it yesterday if I weren’t in NYC all day and was out ALL day Sat as well (and dinner out.)

I don’t clean unless you call cleaning up for the cleaning lady last night at 11 pm.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    1. Funny, it sure snowed like heck while I was shopping yesterday but didn’t stick.

When we first booked the trip I’d hoped to do some hiking. Who knew winter would blow in? It wasn’t just cold & windy there, it was pouring rain for much of the time (hence the movies).

Enjoy your turkey trots. 🙂 Somehow that doesn’t sound right, does it?

  4. I’ve been to Vermont once and thought it was absolutely beautiful! I can empathize with you regarding the chaos of Thanksgiving week …we were out of town this past weekend as well and I am hosting my family on Thursday afternoon AFTER spending the morning at the hubs family farm. It will be hectic for sure and I feel like I’m running crazy this week getting everything ready. I did get all of my grocery shopping done yesterday morning before the grocery stores get too crazy crowded. Have a blessed Thanksgiving Judy!

    1. I was beginning to think I was the only one stressed over getting ready for Thanksgiving! It’s nice to know I have company (not that I want you to be stressed).

The family farm sounds so amazing. Back when we lived in TX, we once did a Friendsgiving at a friend’s ranch — with the dogs — it was a lot of fun!

I too got my grocery shopping done yesterday. Today was the craziness of driving around Lola for her dental — they had to extract three teeth. 😦

I did forget flowers. Mr. Judy is going out to buy them. Which will be interesting.

  5. I don’t have time to clean… but thankfully, since the hubs work schedule is more fluid than mine, he does most of the heavy lifting for cleaning the house (that and the fact he says I don’t vacuum good enough).

    1. Unfortunately, I do have the time. I just don’t enjoy it! Alexa makes it more fun since it’s easier to play music.

Oh, how I wish my husband would think I didn’t vacuum good enough! Or really I wish I could vacuum two weeks ahead of time and not have to redo it. But with 3 furkids — seriously, I can vacuum the day of & it’ll still be all furry!

      Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Vicki!

  6. Yes, you were brave to go away the weekend before hosting Thanksgiving. I did last year for Tulsa, but very thankful my American MIL was here to handle all things for me before family arrived, 😁

    1. Well, maybe it actually helped. I don’t know. I didn’t feel as tired on Thanksgiving as I did last year, but that could also be because I’m not training for anything — finally! — and cut runs short as needed (although I still hated doing that).

  7. I make my husband help me clean! Except in the summer when I am home, I try to do more around the house since I have the time. We didn’t host T-giving but we did clean beforehand because I’d be home for a week and wanted to enjoy a nice clean house!

    1. My husband works & I don’t, so the cleaning falls to me (although it did when I worked, too).

Wow, if I had a week off there’s no way I’d spend it cleaning, LOL! Well, obviously it wasn’t your whole week. 🙂
