Songs that involved ice, that is. I tried to look up new ones but nothing caught my fancy. Ice seemed to play somewhat prominently in this week. This felt like the first normal activity week in a long, long time. And no shoveling, either, which was a blessing (although the remnants tried to take me out one day — you’ll have to read on to find out about that).
I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Wendy @ Taking the Long Way Home to share my activity this week.

Running updates

Monday
Bandit’s trying to kill me. He’s on one of his hunger strikes again and has suddenly started to wake me up way before it’s time to get up — but doesn’t actually want to get off the bed. So hello, sleep deprivation and taking a half hour to feed the animals (cause Giz ain’t exactly a speedy eater in the mornings, either).

Anyway, thank God I walked down the driveway instead of running down it like I normally do because the minute I stepped onto the street I stepped onto a patch of black ice but somehow by the grace of God managed to stay upright. I turned right around and put on my screw shoes and the rest of the run was uneventul (if dreary).
Wednesday
Again the temps plummeted overnight — with the rain yesterday I thought there might be black ice, but looking out it didn’t look like any. I kept waffling, though, because it was super windy, and when the flurries started, I figured I’ll stick to the treadmill and not procrastinate so much getting out the door. Wrong — I just procrastinated getting on the treadmill! But I did, and it got done.

Thursday
A beautiful, sunny day. And brutally cold with the wind chill. Say it with me: could I run outside? Yes. Did I want to? No! Right now I’m really hoping for a mild summer . . .

Saturday
We were able to get out by the river since most of the snow has thawed. There was still some ice on the path, but it was runnable long enough to get 6 miles in. Surprisingly speedy miles for me. Cold makes me speedy!

Favorites of the week
It was time for a massage. Seriously, isn’t every day time for a massage? Love the uplifting quotes on the walls (and that the iphone does better with photos in low light than the ipod did).

At home Bandit is very attached to me, although not as bad as Chester was. Oddly enough, now I think he’d make a good therapy dog. Definitely not when we got him. When he got him, he growled at random people. Nice people. People who actually liked dogs!
Now he cozies up to the folks at my parents’ senior living community. He goes right up to folks and sits down by them waiting to be petted. I don’t really think I have time for the training, and in some areas I don’t think he’d pass the training, but he sure seemed to love laying next to my Dad.
I’m wrapping it up with a few favorite blogs from this week:

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.
Let’s get the conversation started:
What (if anything) prevents you from getting your run on outside?
Do you sleep with furkids in your bed — and how’s that working for ya?
What’s your favorite way to relax?
I’ve had my share of agility training aka black ice. I’m glad it’s gone for now!

I’m glad ours is gone, but it looks like there could be a chance for more later in the week. But with the accuracy of forecasters, hopefully that won’t happen! That’s me being positive. 🙂

Prevented me from running outside: cold (<40), rain, before work, ibs.

You definitely made me smile. Cold *sometimes* prevents me from running outside but we have a different definition of cold. 🙂

I figured you’d like that. We definitely have different definitions of cold. I am a wimp.

You’re not a wimp. It’s just all relative to where you live, is all.

Oh that black ice almost fell myself by the mailbox the other day!

Yeah, this actually was quite close to our mailbox. The mail man usually drives over snow before we can get it shoveled, so it packs down & gets icy.
How are you doing?

I also got a massage this week and it was lovely! that is probably my favorite way to relax. That, and taking a hot Epsom salt bath.

What (if anything) prevents you from getting your run on outside? Temps below 40 & ice covered roads.
Do you sleep with furkids in your bed — and how’s that working for ya? Never.

Below 40, LOL — I’d be on the treadmill most of the winter up here! I’d rather deal with the cold than heat, though.
Music & massages are both great ways to relax.

Max helps himself to our bed most nights now, but occasionally will spend the entire night in his own bed (right near the foot of our bed). He’s pretty considerate most of the time, and stays down between our feet, but once in awhile will wedge himself up in the crook of my legs if I’m sideways in the fetal position. Crazy dog 😉

Bandit was sleeping down at our feet, but last week was rough with him (including last night, although he actually did have to go out . . . several times.
I love it when he curls up behind my legs but he doesn’t do it very often!
Lola is tiny and sleeps between us, but sometimes both of them will push against us with their feet. It’s amazing how little dogs can take over the bed!

The black ice/ice has been pretty bad here too. I did all of my weekly runs on the treadmill but was luckily able to get outside for my long run on Saturday.
A massage sounds heavenly right about now. I took an epsom salt bath after my long run and it was heavenly. A little bit of TLC goes a long way!

I think last week was the first week I wasn’t able to get a foot soak in. Plan to rectify that this week!

I got my hair cut and my nails done which made me feel human again.
lately I’ve been relaxing with a glass of wine and knitting or reading.
Our Sat run was not speedy and not really cold (compared to other colder runs).
We kick the cats off the bed or just shut the door. (once you let them sleep on the bed, they’re no turning back lol) Ours usually fall asleep downstairs by the fireplace but come upstairs in the am when they are hungry. They don’t bug me though because Lou usually feeds them

While it may have been warmer on Sat, that didn’t make it warm. Especially not with the wind. I didn’t set out or try to run a certain pace, I think I just don’t want to keep people waiting.
Gizmo doesn’t sleep with us (he did pre-dogs, but won’t sleep with us with the dogs), but we shut the door otherwise he can get annoying. He can still get annoying, getting into things in the wee hours sometimes.

I slipped on black ice in college, but I was wearing flip flops, so that’s on me. I do sleep with Allie on the bed. She curls up really small, and right up against me. It makes shifting around interesting when I need to get comfortable.

Both Lola & Bandit are pretty good about us moving them around. It’s like Tetris, really — I go to sleep with the dogs, my husband comes in later, I get up first & take Bandit out . . .

thunderstorms and black ice. I definitely don’t run when either are present! In fact, I don’t even like to THINK about running when those are around. I’d much rather stay cozy in sweats with a nice cup of coffee (or glass of wine, depending on time of day) sitting next to a fire or under a warm blank with a cat, or two, on my lap. Hmm…I actually wish I was doing that right now! lol
The kitties sleep with me. It’s mostly okay until I want to move and they usually have me pinned so that’s a struggle. Luckily, they move pretty easily. They even like to snuggle under the covers sometimes! I like that part. There’s something super comforting about a purring cat right up next to you. ❤
If Abbey (the dog) is on the bed with me, it means there's a thunderstorm and ain't no one sleeping. Another reason they're not my favorite thing.
You're so cute in pink!!

I have run in thunderstorms on several occasions. Not on purpose, of course, but when you’re 5 miles from your car with no shelter — well, it does make you run faster.
Gizmo slept with us until we got Chester, and he’s never gone back to it. It didn’t deter Simba, OTOH. Who was a big boy at 14 lbs of muscle — he coulda taken Bandit on. 🙂
Somehow, though, I trained Simba not to come to bed until the wee hours, after I was already asleep. Otherwise I had trouble getting to sleep with the three of them pinning me down.

Glad you were ok with that black ice scare! I love that quote on the wall at the massage place, so true.

Aw, I’m so glad Bandit has made such a turnaround! I remember how crazy it was at the beginning for you.
Careful on that ice. We’ve got training to do!! You were saying it hasn’t been a bad winter…? 😉

Well, Bandit is still a challenge, though. I’m afraid he always will be. The last week has been tough. Lots of sleep deprivation, which is unusual — and the husband has actually been helping out with that more than normal, which is nice.

It has warmed up in PA some… so whenever I think, oh… 30… I can’t run in that, I remind myself that just weeks ago it was below 10!! then add another layer and head out.

I admit, I often skate across the flagstones in front of our house simply from our summer moisture in the air. I’m glad you didn’t fall on the black ice. It’s so sweet Bandit loves the residents of the senior community where you parents live. I’m sure it brings them joy too! You’ve really done an outstanding job with him since adopting him. Thanks for linking!

Bandit definitely does seem to enjoy the people who hang out in the lobby. And yes, he definitely brings some people some joy — one man was telling me about the dogs he used to have.
They’re allowed to have animals there, and there are some residents with dogs & cats, plus a therapy dog comes in about once a month.

How fun to get outside, not so fun about the ice. Thunder and lightning keep me indoors in the FL. There was a run during my training this past summer that I had to call my son to come pick me up due to lightning. I allow my dog to sleep in the bed. It actually started when the ex left back in 2013 and I just haven’t kicked her out. I’m a nap warrior!! That’s my first choice to relax, however a massage is a pretty nice treat.

I’ve been caught in thunderstorms. Multiple times. But not on purpose, of course!
Each dog we get spends a year sleeping a crate first. So that they’re comfortable in a crate. Bandit took a little longer before we allowed him in the bed . . .
