Running Updates
Wednesday
With rain in the forecast for Thursday (spoiler: it didn’t materialize), I wanted to get in the longer run today. Thursdays are busy for me anyway. It was cooler and it was cloudy so it was a decent run. Despite the groups totally hording the path at the park which caused me to have to run on grass, multiple times. I channeled the zen of the park and there was no swearing. This time.
Thursday
Came home after my meeting and quickly changed to try to get ahead of the forecast rain. I don’t like running at lunchtime, but you do what you gotta do. I was tired but a bit angry — one of those days — and I took it out on the road. Unfortunately all those little annoyances continued. Some days you aren’t as good at letting it roll off your back. Of course it never rained . . .
Saturday
Hello, Fall! Although overcast and chilly, I’ll take this kind of weather over last weekend’s weather any day. Still felt as though I was dragging some but overall it was a good run and the only double digit run before the half at the end of the month (if you don’t count the half last week, of course).
Favorites of the week
Although today I’m at my parents, the next few weeks should be a bit calmer (and most likely cooler, despite some warm temps forecast for the beginning of next week) and I’m quite ready for that.
Have you ever heard of DogSpot (find the app here)? Definitely wasn’t on my radar but we saw it when we stopped at a service area on the way home from OCNJ. Basically you join via the app, and at certain locations there are essentially doghouses (that lock, and have air holes and air conditioning, and a puppy cam) that you can use for your dog while you are in the business. I can’t really see myself ever using it but it was intriguing.
The ones we saw were right outside the entrance to the service area.
Let’s get the conversation started:
Would you feel comfortable leaving your dog at a Dog Spot?
Any fun plans for Columbus Day?
What are you looking forward to right now?
We STILL haven’t really had fall here yet. It has been warm, cloudy and humid for the past week. A little bit of rain, but not too much. The Hudson Mohawk is at the very top of marathons I would like to do. I have heard great things about that race.

We are going back and forth between summer and fall. Decidedly fall like today & yesterday, although oddly like summer by my parents yesterday, just 90 miles south.
I’ve never done Hudson Mohawk since I train on the path all.the.time. It is a well run race and mostly flat. A little scenic but not outstandingly so.
Then again, I’ve never run it!

We’ve got fall and tomorrow we have the return of summer. What a roller coaster!!
Idk if I’d leave Cocoa in one of those Dog Spots. With the scents of other dogs in there, she’d probably freak out. She’s neurotic enough as it is.

Yeah, the dogs are on display for everyone walking into the service area.
OTOH, the same day we saw that someone just walked in with their large dog & no one said boo.

I don’t know. That DogSpot thing seems a little strange to me. The idea is cool, I suppose, and I can see why people would be interested but …. I’m not sure I would use one. I have very little trust for other people.
We didn’t have any rain this whole week but it’s coming, from what I understand. Guess that system that’s supposed to smack Florida is going to travel its way up here. I just hope it’s all done by Saturday. I mean, I’ve run in the rain plenty of times but I would really prefer my first ultra to be a dry one. lol

Well, I definitely hope that you have a dry race! Weather systems to change course. 🙂

Are you raking leaves yet? It’s still summer here. But I hear there is a tropical storm/hurricane coming and after that we’ll have cooler temps. I’m not holding my breath. I doubt my dogs would be happy at DogSpot, but since one of them can’t travel due to extreme car sickness — it’s a non-issue. Thanks for linking!

We haven’t actually raked yet but we certainly could. Actually, these days Mr. Judy mulches the leaves with the mower & I don’t have to rake. Which is heaven.
Lola isn’t great in the car, but she’s actually gotten better & thankfully it’s not motion sickness just anxiety. She loves the moonroof. Too bad there’s such a narrow window to use it.
Bandit, the anxious one, is great in the car. He just lays down & goes to sleep.
I do hope your weather changes soon, but I know it TX it usually took until about Nov to get relief. 😦

That is an interesting idea for an app for the dogs. I could see people using those. Very over the weather here-it was almost 90 the other day when my little girls had practice. They were not happy

Those poor girls! I wouldn’t be happy, either.

I definitely have days where I let everything eat at me and no run can help. I hope next week is calmer! I don’t know how I would feel about Dog Spot. I like the idea, but I might not be comfortable with it.

This week should definitely be calmer. The next couple of weeks, in fact. We’ll actually be home for a change, LOL — it’s been a long time since we’ve been home a whole week!

I haven’t heard of Dog Spot. There are so many interesting ideas out there! Since we don’t take Scooby out on errands, I don’t think I’d use it, but for people who can’t bear to leave their dogs at home it’s better than leaving them in a car – especially if it’s warm.

I’m not sure anyone’s heard of it, LOL! I really don’t think I’d ever use it. But it was interesting (and not in use when we saw it).

My plans for Columbus Day? Probably an early morning run with ‘Milly because we have rain in the forecast (until Thursday, when I’ll be leaving on a jet plane for NC). With my marathon next Saturday, I just can’t risk getting sick…and running in the rain (with upper 40’s temps) has a lot of potential for all things bad.

That kind of weather is exactly why I ended up on the treadmill twice before my half. If only I’d had weather like that for my half. 🙂
Good luck getting cozy with Milly (and for your race).

The weather here has been leaving much to be desired when it comes to cooler temps. As I write this it’s currently 96% humidity and this whole week is going to be “unseasonably warm” – ugh! I’m so over it!
I actually took today off work (yay) so I’m going to get in a workout this morning and then do some cleaning and run some errands.

Hurrah for a day off! But cleaning & errands, LOL?
I hate the weather whiplash!

Yesterday’s weather was nuts. Warm in the morning and I needed a jacket by evening. Got off the train here and gross.
I do’t have a dog, and while that doesn’t sound like it would work for everyone it’s better than leaving a dog in an overheated car
I wanted to run Albany Mohawk. Maybe next year

I’ve never run Mowhawk Hudson (and keep switching the damn name around). I train on parts of the course all the time, so I have no desire.
As far as I know, it’s a well run race, and the last little bit along the river to the finish is one of my favorite places to run.
But three aren’t too many areas for spectators, it’s not THAT scenic, and it’s also not a closed course & there are a lot of people that use the path. It is nice & flat, though. 🙂

That’s how I feel about some of the CP races – why pay where I can run any given day. Sometimes I do, sometimes it’s not worth it

Well, of course some people love it BECAUSE they know it so well & they can sleep in their own bad. I need variety, and there are only so many places to run here!

I’m glad you were able to channel some zen at the park 🙂 It annoys me when big groups are using the whole path too. I’ve run with groups before and the leaders always emphasize not to run more than two across. The weather here’s been a bit of a yoyo. It’s back to hot and humid this week.

These people weren’t running, they were walking!
We’re hot & humid for a couple of days, but then there’s a big cool down that should be perfect for my race this weekend (10k)!

DogSpot seems interesting, but I’m not sure I’d use it. Granted, I have a cat, and when I was moving up to Denver, my Dad and I took turns at gas stations. He’d gas the car while I used the facilities, and then I’d sit in the car with Allie while he did. I know it would be tough if you were driving alone.

I moved from MD to VT — took it nice & easy, stopped over by my folks overnight (this was decades ago) with 2 cats in boxes. They were actually quite good. Poor things.
And then eventually we flew them down to TX . . . where we lived in an apartment . . . until we moved into our house . . .

It’s tough when you try to move your runs around to accommodate the weather. Nice job! Columbus Day is just a regular day at the office for us, though it’s been pretty boring today!
The main thing I’m looking forward to right now is pinning down more details for the wedding, now less than 3 weeks away!

I haven’t heard of DogSpot, though I’m sure we don’t have it here. I can’t see myself using it except maybe for a quick run in somewhere. Kara doesn’t get to come on errands, except to the pet store and Home Depot.

My dogs don’t usually come along with me on errands, either. Every once in a great while, when it’s cool, I’ll leave them in the car while I pop very quickly into a grocery store, but it’s pretty rare.
I’d just never even heard of this!

We didn’t have much rain this week and it is STILL summer here! Ugh,,,, when will it end??? I might would use the Dog Spot deal if I was only going to be in the store for a short time. Here’s hoping this week is better …I’m sure you were just worn down from your racecation! (Which I’m headed over to read about right now!)

Well, today & tomorrow is summer like. And then it’s going to be damn cold this weekend. But I’m racing, so that’s good. Well, within reason, I suppose.
This back & forth crap is hard to handle, too!

Totally agree. It’s the drastic swings in the weather that makes people sick! Good luck this weekend!

We’re still swopping between autumn and summer here, too. We were over on the Isles of Scilly in bright sunshine but everyone was brought back to the mainland a day early as a huge storm was forecast – it came in and now it’s really strong winds and pouring rain and high seas (if you’re interested, it’s Storm Calumn, nothing to Michael of course but quite powerful here). No running for me this morning as it would have been dangerous!

I kind of did wonder if our hurricanes could make it across the pond. My husband just laughed at me. 🙂
Hopefully things have settled back down!
