You’ll probably notice I was a bit of a slug this week. And I’m okay with that. Kind of wished I’d done a little yoga but I didn’t and that’s just the way it is.
I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Wendy @ Taking the Long Way Home to share life after goal races. There might be a 15k next weekend . . . still waiting a bit on weather before I pull the trigger on that.

Running Updates

Wednesday
Part of me was ready to take off the whole week. Not so much that I am sore or injured just supremely unmotivated. Despite the fact that it was supposed to rapidly warm up, I was running in the morning while it was still in the 30s (but not too windy yet). It did, in the end, feel good to hit the road after 3 days off. If I didn’t have a potential 15k next weekend, I’d probably have taken more time off.
I picked up Bandit for a cool down for the first time in a very, very long time. He seemed very confused. Maybe he’s getting too old for this s*#t?

Friday
Will it ever stop raining? At least my run was dry. And it wasn’t cold. In fact, had Ocean City been like this (overcast, no sun in sight) it would have been a very different story.
Threw in 5 or 6 small hill repeats in the middle. The 15k next week is hilly. And because I was a little on the slow side, picked it up miles 6 & 7 to prove to myself I can pick it up when tired. But some niggles started talking so I slowed down the last mile.

Saturday
Just couldn’t catch a break today. Yesterday I wore almost the same outfit, with the exception of a skirt yesterday and capris today + Wonder Wool Tee. With a windbreaker over yesterday — after one mile I tied that windbreaker around my waist.
Today I got caught in rain even though the radar looked dry, but instead of that windbreaker I had a vest on — and the temp dropped during the run, the rain got harder, and I wished I’d worn a windbreaker again!
I mean seriously, 2 Saturdays with cold rain? And no cheering section this time. Luckily it was just 4 miles. Sunday, when my friends ran, which obviously was also the NYC Marathon, was perfect running weather.

Favorites of the week
Normally I don’t watch the marathon on tv. But we happened to be at my parents, and my Dad happened to put on the marathon, so I got to see the elite women finishing, which I admit was kind of cool. Kudos to everyone who ran it today!

Have you started your holiday shopping yet? Being Jewish is very helpful at this time of year.
You’ve been training and racing so much I’ll bet a slug week was just what you needed. Boo to all that rain. Cold rain is no fun for running. We’ve had gorgeous weather here until today. It rained all dang day. That plus the early darkness due to the time change made me wanna nest at home.

Actually, yesterday was finally gorgeous here! Which of course meant 3 hours in the car & staying indoors with my parents all day. And that was after 3 days of rain and more on the way . . .

The time change (now and in the spring) don’t affect me usually. I don’t like the extra early darkness,s but the little extra early morning daylight is nice (though I’m usually up before the sunrise regardless if it’s at 7:30 or 6:30). All of that cold rain sounds like a major buzz kill. My condolences. About the only time I can tolerate rain is in the heat of summer, otherwise it’s most unwelcome.

There’s been so much rain lately it’s either embrace it or run on the treadmill (which might happen this week).

A “slug” week is a good thing sometimes! I bet Bandit enjoyed the surprise run 🙂 Watching the marathon on TV can be fun! Not as fun as cheering in person of course, but I like to hear the commentator’s take on everything.

I wasn’t a total slug, and now I’ve realized that Thanksgiving is just 2 weeks from this Thursday. Time to go into major cleaning mode!

I actually have started shopping. I have a couple gifts already, and I’m looking for ideas from friends and family. It helps to do shopping across two months instead of one. Getting stuff done before Thanksgiving means I can relax and enjoy December.

You are quite the shopper! Kudos for getting started early.

I find I shop for the Jewish folk in my life as much as the Christians — mainly because neither side (nor me) are particularly religious and it’s more ritual winter gift exchange rather than Christmas or Hanukkah.
This weather is so weird — especially the rain you all had that never came down state save for overnight Friday. Restful weeks are good
Like RightFits, I like the commentators’ take — luckily at the finish we had both courtesy of big screens.

You are lucky you didn’t get our rain. But marathon day was glorious (too bad I had to spend it all inside & in the car).

Last week I was driving in the dark every morning – so I was ready for the time change. Sure, that means I’ll have to go home in the dark soon, but for some reason driving at dusk is easier for me than dawn (I have awful night vision).

I don’t have great night vision either. Hate to drive n the dark. Luckily I don’t have to much.
That’s interesting that you find it easier at dusk vs dawn, though. I wonder why?

You definitely deserve a rest week.
We run at different times of day so I don’t really remember the rain. For me it’s work that prevents me from running.
I hate the time change. Because of the darkness now I can only run at Ualbany. Or in NYC.

There were 3 straight days of rain last week. And then I spent the one nice day in the car & inside. Such is life.
Glad I at least managed the long run Friday when it was dry.

Yup, you are lucky to be able to run during the dry hours though some weeks they are few.

I don’t really have an off season, although I probably need one. In winter I do way less biking though. I actually need to get back to weekly long-ish runs for the 15 I’m doing in December.

I have a very short off season now — or a long one. All depends on whether or not I defer the next half I’m signed up for.

Whenever I have an off season I try to still do 3 runs a week with varying distances and some sort of strength training twice a week. That way I just stay in what I call “maintenance mode”.
I would love if we could eliminate DST because it just throw my whole body off for at least 3 days. This morning I was wide awake at 4am just staring at the ceiling, lol

I kind of like DST. I just don’t want to go back to normal time — especially for the first time in forever I actually had a great week of sleep! Then this morning I was up at 4:30, but that was more about needing to go to the bathroom and it being too late to go back to bed.

Boo to all that rain 😦 I hope you’ve got better weather this week. I enjoyed watching the NYC marathon coverage too! I taped it so I could watch it after my long run and I definitely looked forward to it during the run 🙂

Yeah, unfortunately, the rain continues. Could even see some snow flurries soon.

The cooler weather has been great for my mojo. But now the real stuff is coming–so we’ll see how I feel about that!

Heck I really slept in this past Sunday. I woke up and thought it was 10 but really only 9 with the time change. I did watch the NYC. Those winners crushed it!

Well, you’re also going back & forth between time zones! That’s gotta be tiring!
I can’t even imagine sleeping that late, though. Not even if I’m sick. I’m just not wired that way (of course I rarely stay up past 10 pm, too, and even that is late to me!).

Annnddd it’s raining again today…
I watched the elite women finish the NYC Marathon yesterday as well. I do love watching how easy they make those paces look!
I started my Christmas shopping in July. If I see something that’s perfect for someone, I buy it when I see it. Just this morning, I ordered pint glasses with our family name etched on them for our sons. What I really should do is start wrapping everything now instead of waiting…

It has rained 5 out of 6 days. Guess which day I couldn’t be outside much (or run)?
Gift bags. 🙂 I have one I use for Hannukah year after year . . .

I was ready for your time change as it bothers me when we’re not all the same (mainly because I have clients all over the world and usually someone forgets!). And I think you deserved a down week, too. I love watching the London marathon on TV and always have done, even before I was a runner! I didn’t watch New York, though, not sure it was shown over here. It’s always inspiring to watch those elites and know a teeeeeeny bit of what they’re going through.
Hope this week is a good one for you (I’m all behind like the cow’s tail, as they say).

I have never heard that expression before — behind the cow’s tail. Interesting!
Of course here HI & AZ don’t do daylight saving time. So it can still get confusing. I actually find I do better on it, so I wish we never went off of it!

That is confusing indeed – I only found that out this year! It’s all behind like the cow’s tail. But I don’t know why a cow’s tail is more “behind” than any other kind of animal tale! I suspect it’s from the West Country as most of my odder expressions are … from my Gran. But this article says it has been used in the US and seems to be from Cornwall or Wales! https://wordhistories.net/2018/03/04/behind-like-cows-tail/
