Here’s to you, mammas: 5/6-12 WRD

Easing back into activity, again! The weather was pretty atrocious for much of the week, lots of cold rain. I was able to run outside the two times I ran. We did have a beautiful day on Wednesday, but I had some errands including a haircut — a girl’s gotta have priorities! I didn’t take any photos yesterday, but I was wearing a beanie & tights yesterday for my run — that’s just wrong in the middle of May!

Joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and just sharing how to ease back into activity.

And linking up with Jenn @ Runswithpugs, Brandi @ Funnerrunner, Anna Louise @ Graciouswarriorprincess, Briana @ Matsmilesmedals, Meghan @ Meghanonthemove, and Elizabeth @ Trainwithbainfor RIOTS(running is our therapy)

Running Updates

Lovely tulips everywhere

Went out for a short run. Had a light, long sleeve top on so no idea of pace while running. When I finished, it was a fairly normal pace for me despite feeling pretty slow. Still rather low on energy, I spent about 10 days not eating a whole lot.

Clothes swap

An easy three miles with the FTC ladies. We’re three weeks away from the race. Then there was a clothes swap & some edibles post run (any clothes left will be donated to domestic violence survivors).

More tulips

Favorites of the week
Despite a very rainy week, we were able to get out there to walk the dogs most days. It usually let up at some point. We are definitely all sorts of green here.

And yet more tulips

This area has a very heavy Dutch influence (remember, NYC was once New Amsterdam) so tulips are a big thing around here. There’s a tulip festival, although I’ve never been.

Chihuahua lady flakes out on us, but luckily I was able to get a sitter on such short notice — cause it has poured all day.

What flowers are blooming near you?

Do you enjoy them or are they making you miserable?

Any running and/or fitness brags this week? I ran. That’s all. 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mammas!

    1. Yesterday the weather was just horrible. And we got to spend pretty much 5 hours in the car — driving — on top of a rather stressful day.

Waiting for it to warm up — and STOP RAINING here, too!

  1. Glad you’re feeling better.

I think I’ve been to the Tulip Fest every year I’ve lived here. Just an Albany tradition.

Lots of running in the heat. And now I’m freezing. Ugh!!

I did wear a skirt and short sleeves for my race. Do we live in the same place? Lol

    1. We may live in the same place, but we weren’t running in the same place. Most everyone was in tights (or at the very least capris). With the wind off the river it was very cold (40s).

I was wearing a vest & not a jacket, though, and I did end up unzipping it fully after we ran a while, but quickly zipped it up once we were finished.

      1. Racing is also different than running. it was chilly before and after the race just not during. There quite a few tank wearers.

      2. I looked at your photos. I’d say about 90% were in tights, too. Just like 90% of the runners at FTC. Becky was in shorts, but even she had on a long sleeve top.

  2. Glad to read that you are easing back into running. Your tulips are beautiful! My rhododendrons and azaleas are blooming now. Tulips are done. I wanted to plant our my annuals today, but it was rainy and 50 degrees all day. Not ideal gardening weather. Maybe tomorrow!

    1. Yup, our weather was pretty much the same yesterday (although even colder) AND we spent a lot of time driving to my parents, driving my parents around . . . all in the rain.

      A very long day.

  3. Most of our tulips and daffodils are about finished, but all the trees are looking so pretty at the moment. That will probably all change this week as we are expected to get in the 80’s on Thursday!! (yes, I am really excited for that). Sounds like you’re rallying back!! Thanks for linking, Judy!

    1. There will be no 80s here. Maybe 70s (they tend to overpromise and underdeliver when it comes to temps, though).

Today is just another raw, cold, rainy day. If I weren’t committed to the mentoring group, I would be on the treadmill. And probably tomorrow, as yesterday was very tiring.

Spring is definitely one of my favorite seasons. It’s so pretty, and it’s before all the nasty biting & stinging insects are out in force!

  4. I love the idea of clothes swap – i’m going to run this idea by my running buddies!

Speaking of cold weather, I had to turn on the heat in my car this morning, which just felt crazy for May!

    1. I turn the dial over to warm, but I don’t think I’ve actually had to run the heat in my car. Wait, today I’ll probably have to do it, LOL!

Seriously, though, we have to be careful about what we complain about — we don’t want know rain, but a little (or a lot) of moderation would be most welcome.

  5. It’s been tough to enjoy the daffodils and tulips here because it’s flooded not to mention cold. Patchy frost tonight. I swear winter will not let go this year.

    1. We’re in the same boat. Although we live on the top of a small hill so no flooding, although the lawn can spawn lakes at times. We’ve had enough dry days in between lots of rain so that’s not happening right now. Sunday was just horrible, though, and it was 40 when I woke up this morning (but felt colder due to the cold rain, of course).

  6. I love tulips! There are usually big plots of them at the end of the Memorial Bridge, but right now the area is a construction staging zone. I think I am more allergic to trees than flowers. Glad that you are feeling better — hopefully the weather will be better soon too.

    1. Well, the weather is still pretty sucky. But ti’s supposed to get a little better. Although I see more rain in the long term forecast.

Still, we’ve had years it’s been so rainy we never got to grill or eat outside, and we’ve already done that this year!
