Nothing very exciting going on this week. No running to report (planned for break). Although I actually did get in more miles walking than I normally would with running, due to the Run for Ruth distance challenge.
Joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and running/walking my virtual Dempsey Challenge races.

Running Update
Week intention: taking it easy
Which meant no running for me this week. Despite decent weather, I didn’t really miss it, either. I did lots of walking. I *think* Bandit seems to be enjoying his extra, solo walks.

Favorites of the week
Lola continues to improve, but we’re not back to walks yet. The vet suggested only on grass. Well, she’s running around the backyard & where the heck are we going to be able to go for a short walk on grass? Actually I do have a few ideas.

But first a walk with a friend this morning. Miles always go by more quickly with a friend.

Earlier in the week I visited Saratoga Spa State Park. I have run and raced a handful of times in this park, in fact normally I’d be doing a 10k there in a couple of weeks, but I don’t really know my way around it well and quite frankly I don’t think the road and trail signs are great.
Still I had a very nice walk that morning, enjoying the changing leaves and a waterfall or two.
The main reason I joined the walk for Ruth was the tshirt. Well, of course to honor her memory, too. Have you done a virtual just because you liked the swag?
Do you think the trails in your area are well marked?
What is one thing you’re proud you did this week?
ICYMI: An easy AM Yoga flow to banish any stiffness after sleeping here. Please excuse the resting b#*ch face. Sometimes it’s hard to get a great still!
Coming up on Tuesday: I’m finally giving you the lowdown on nasal breathing. On Friday I’ll suggest a few ways you can make virtual races more funI’m explaining why I decided to take a running break.
miles always go by faster and more fun with friends. Sometimes I will just talk to people on the phone while I walk too, Looking forward to hearing about your nasal breathing experiment

I don’t have unlimited anything on my phone, although then again, I don’t use it that much for calling (although more right now), so I do have a fair number of minutes, LOL!

How lovely to get to walk with friends – definitely running with my local friends is what has saved me during lockdown. I am proud I actually shared my sponsorship page for the marathon-over-the-month I’m doing for the local hospice, as I’ve made a bit of extra money for them.

I’m not super comfortable getting together with many of my friends. Or in groups at all, for that matter. Or even with my sister, who works part time in retail — although I might actually see her tomorrow.
So yes, much of my walking is either with Mr. Judy & the dogs or on my own. All my running has been solo for months! Which is just me.

Yes, I’m not seeing anyone indoors (well, we can’t in houses and gardens and as we have enhanced lockdown and also hotspots around here, I am not going in cafes) but running outdoors in a group of up to 4 I’m OK with. A fair bit of dog walking with Claire from down the road calms the nerves!

I’d love to see the shirt for the RBG walk–you’ll have to share it! I just signed up for a virtual 10k called the Pink Pumpkin–it’s for breast cancer–and yep, I did it for the shirt, lol

There’s a graphic of the tshirt if you scroll down on the race info page. https://runsignup.com/Race/IN/AnyTown/RunforRuthWeDissent

Now I want to see the shirt. 🙂 No, I haven’t done a virtual race just for the swag. But I would do one just to get an RBG shirt too.
I am proud for running faster than the required paces on a few of my runs. Still smiling about it.

You should definitely be proud! You’ve been working hard — in more than one way!

When I read Darlene’s post I knew that’t the one you were referring to. I do like it.

I love that you were able to take a break from running an still get in a lot of walking miles this week for the RBG challenge!

It’s definitely gotten me to walk more, although I had actually started to walk a bit more (while running) a while ago.
If I hadn’t met up with my friend today though I wouldn’t have walked quite so far!

I want to make or buy a Ruth shirt before I do the event. But maybe I should just do it. Such a great cause, and yes, I needed that swag.

I’ll probably still be walking by the time the tshirt comes . . . although by then I should be running again, so it’ll be easier to get in the miles.

Great fall colors! I’ve only done two virtuals, with one on tap later this month. In one I gave away the swag due to size, but the other is super comfy and I anticipate 3rd will be too. None done exclusively for the swag though. Glad Lola trending better

Thanks about Lola, Cari.
Well, the tshirt wasn’t the only reason. 🙂 There’s another one I’m considering where it truly is mostly about the swag, but I have time to make up my mind. I did sign up for a virtual 5k in November mostly because I liked the cause.
Gotta do something to keep 2020 interesting (beyond all the mayhem).

Glad Lola is getting better. I don’t have any friends who live close enough to walk with, so I pass the time with podcasts.

You have a beautiful area to walk and run. I’ve visited the Saratoga area many times, but only once to run a race. I’m near the Appalachian Trail and in the sections nearby it is very well marked.

The RBG event sounds great! Glad Lola is getting better. We do a lot for our pups, don’t we? But they’re the best 🙂

Glad you could get in so much walking this week! I found that when I took a break from running I was walking more and it was really nice.

Nice week, Judy! It’s nice to have those non-running weeks now and then (ahem, I’ve had seven of them LOL). They reinforce how much we love the sport, but also confirm that running, itself, does not define us. I love all that walking you’ve been doing!

Miles definitely go by faster when you’re with a friend 🙂
It’s nice to break a run break from time to time.

I think its great when good swag motivates people to register. That’s a fun shirt!

I saw a few virtual run/walks online for RGB and considered doing one just for the shirt too. I never got around to actually registering, though. It sounds like your walk with a friend was awesome. The photo of you standing on the granite tiles kind of reminds me of one of RGB’s collars!

I don’t usually care about virtual swag except for a wineglass I got this year.
I did the RGB but it started Sept 20 so done. But glad to support this.
Enjoy your running break.

The parkway and trail look lovely – your trees are a little bit ahead of ours. Yes, miles always go faster with friends. 🙂
