Hitting pause: 3/21 – 27 WRD

This week may have been getting a little bit of what I need. Thankfully the fever was very short lived, but a low grade temp lingered. I wasn’t down and out, but I really wasn’t feeling like running in the beginning of the week, so I didn’t. Plus I was busy wrapping up Spring into Action, which I’m excited to share with everyone now!

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and taking a bit of time off from running. Don’t worry, I’ll be back. I always am!

Running Update

The HS runners work out in our neighborhood a lot. Why are they wrong siders????

Friday Intention: let’s see how I feel
It was actually a really nice morning to run for a change, and I was overdressed and the HS runners were running in the neighborhood again. I was working on some nice positive splits and then the last mile saved the day.

Long rant, feel free to skip: Unknown to me, Mr. Judy was also actually walking Bandit at the time. We’ve had some run-ins with one guy in our neighborhood who doesn’t like any dogs anywhere near his property; mainly because his dog goes ballistic. We’ve always made it a point to go past his property before we cross the street. This particular day Mr. Judy was actually on the street across from this property.

The owner came out, ranting and literally raving at Mr. Judy. With the dog off leash. Then he basically let the dog attack Bandit (Bandit was not harmed, thankfully), and after a few seconds deigned to call his dog off.

At which point the owner turned his ire on Mr. Judy, who notified the police when he got home. We don’t really want the police to go talk with the owner because he’ll most likely know who called them, although I don’t think he knows where we live.

Thankfully he is several blocks away. Unfortunately his house is on an intersection where we usually cross. Which means we have to stop going there completely (at least for now), which also cuts out about half our neighborhood from Bandit’s walks.

On the other hand one of his neighbors, who lives across the street (fence dog lady) has a habit of walking said fence dog off leash — I’m not super fond of her dog, either, but even avoiding that intersection we are still likely to run into her. It’s a no win situation.

ETA: we did run into her today. Dog off leash, although he is hooked up to a leash which he carries in his mouth. She said the neighbor is a sweetheart. Well clearly not to us. Her dog (which she held onto while we talked, mostly, but not completely) didn’t faze Bandit thankfully.

It seems like there’s always some nut job dog owner in the neighborhoods we’ve lived in. We had one where we lived in Austin, too.

I’ve run past this tree hundreds of times; today I noticed the knot that looked like a heart

Sunday Intention: easy time on feet
A wintery day with even a few snow pellets out there on the run. I just took it easy. I was dressed correctly for the weather, which always helps. The Robins are out of control! They’re everywhere! Right about now I bet they wish they’d stayed South.

The Christmas cactus is winding down but it’s been blooming since November!

Favorites of the week
Aside from the nutty dog owner, it was a pretty quiet week. There wasn’t a lot of movement, but I was very busy putting the finishing touches on Spring into Action and some other things. I had meant to go to my moms this week but between not feeling 100% and the stuff I needed to work on it didn’t happen.

There was sushi this week so there’s that. Hey, it’s actually only been a month since I had sushi!

ICYMI: It’s live! Spring into Action — if you want to fit Yoga into your life, I’ve got the practices for you. You can join at any time here. Or just go ahead and do the Standing Warmup with me here.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday I’ll review our Wildgrain trial box. What’s a Wildgrain box, you ask? You’ll have to wait until Tuesday! On Friday it’s time to cozy up with some hot beverages. Maybe by then we won’t actually need hot beverages!

  1. Too bad about the fever and not being able to run.

    And the dog drama.

At least you’re feeling better. Good thing you do not sign up for races.

    So windy today!!!!!!

  2. Ugh, there’s a man who takes his dog out off-leash in a neighborhood I run through. Luckily the dog is calm and Scooby is calm with it, but it’s still annoying. This week I stopped a few yards from them to let them get away from me (we were on perpendicular routes), but he did NOTHING to call his dog to follow him instead of “greet” Scooby.

LOL on the high schoolers being “wrong siders” — maybe their coach hasn’t told them that.

  3. Hold up! The guy with the dog off leash was yelling at Mr Judy because Bandit was being walked on the street? What a whack job. Yes, there is always one and sometimes more. A while back, our neighbor across the street-an odd guy but always friendly to us–gave Mike and Tom the finger for an unknown reason. People are strange!

I hope you’re feeling like yourself again!

    1. I’m not sure why the neighbor said he’s sweet because he’s always been a whack job to us. He is several blocks away, thankfully.

I’m sorry about your neighbor! So strange! We don’t really see most of our immediate neighbors much but at least they’re all friendly.

  4. We have a dog walker now that Dustin and I are both back in the office and last week two labs came after Ruth & Matilda (they were off leash) and really scared Ruth…. we live in the city and people should be more responsible than that. It shook up our dog walker as she’s new with our dogs. Anyways…it seems to happen everywhere. So glad Bandit is okay!

    1. I’m so sorry your dog walker had that experience. I remember once walking Chester & Lola & someone had their kid walking their lab (another pet peeve of mine). It’s so much harder when you’ve got 2 dogs! Anyway the kid lost control of the lab, the mother was almost hysterical, but luckily I stayed calm. That dog wasn’t mean, thankfully.

  5. Hmm, sounds like it’s time for you to move! Of course, there are crazy people everywhere.
I’m glad you’re feeling better! And congratulations on getting Spring Into Action up and running- it looks great!

  6. OMG that guy sounds like such a nut job! I never understand people that that. Thank goodness your husband and Bandit were okay.

Glad that you are feeling better this week. I know so many people that have come down with colds or a stomach bug over the past few weeks – it’s crazy.

  7. Well, if we’re sharing dog stories…there was a weird gal, across the street, but on the other side of the block. She had a newfoundland, who was basically five times the size of Max. She’d always let her dog out in the yard, sans leash. I think he was a gentle dog (and a senior dog), but Max freaks out at any dog that is bigger than he is. One time, the big dog come up to us, crossing the street. He was barking and foaming at the mouth, and I was desperately struggling to pick up Max (in all his excitement). Max was unharmed, but what a nuisance. After it happened a second time, I called the police. It continued to happen, but not frequently (because I just avoided walking Max around that block most days). I wound up calling the police, again (a few months later), after the dog came across the street at us, doing the same thing. Honestly, maybe this dog was a gentle giant, but smaller dogs aren’t going to think that when it’s barking. Thankfully, the lady and her dog moved away 😉

    1. I don’t understand people who just let their dogs run around. Of course it was more that way growing up. I’m so sorry; poor Max!

The whacko neighbor in Austin lived a couple of houses down & her dog used to come running into our yard, getting into flowerbeds. It happened frequently. My husband also called the police on her.

She came over ranting at me, calling me the b-word, telling me it was her son’s dog & how responsible her son was (the son was like 5 & sorry it’s your responsibility as a parent to oversee the son).

Luckily we moved here not too long after that! But this guy is much, much worse than that woman was.

  8. So your neighbor doesn’t even want people with dogs to walk anywhere near his house? Lovely how he thinks he owns the streets, too. So sorry this happened to Mr. Judy and Bandit.

Can’t wait to check out your Spring into Action, hopefully soon.

    1. Yeah, the guy (and his dog) is a real piece of work. I’m sure the dog picks up on his owner’s energy.

So meanwhile we’re just avoiding the area — with Bandit. I ran past there today. People are ok apparently.

  9. I’m so sorry that you weren’t feeling weel the first part of the week and unable to run. I’m glad you rested and listened to your body and are feeling better.

So sorry about the dog owner experience. You would think with him owning a dog he would understand people walking their dogs…. especially on the other side of the street. Crazy people. I’m glad Bandit is okay.

  10. I’m so glad Bandit is ok. I can’t stand irresponsible dog owners. Or irrational people. I get frustrated because Luna gets very distracted by other dogs while we are out (and people, and wind, and air molecules), but that’s on us, not other people. Sounds like your neighbor needs tot get a grip!

  11. we had a run in once with a crazy neighbor over something ridiculous. I don’t get people sometimes! Hope you are feeling better this week and back to yourself
