Whether it’s a human or a beloved animal, a serious health diagnosis is always hard, and you have to experiment your way to a new normal. I know many bloggers here are struggling with that, too. For the moment I think we’ve mostly found what works for Bandit, and the coughing is almost nonexistent, so I’m getting much better sleep again, too. I seem to have found a groove for getting it what I want, fitness wise, most days. That helps!

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and doing the best I can.

Running Update

Tuesday intention: go long-er
I planned to be on the treadmill, but with Bandit actually eating and a nice cloud cover, I seized the run and got outside for my long-er run. I chose to run down the hill outside my neighborhood, and cut across on the way back so I wouldn’t have to run back up all the way. I still had to tackle some uphills, and there were a couple of pauses in this run, which is unusual but were needed. Overall not a bad run.

Thursday intention: maintain base
Airy quality not bad, but still a bit congested so to speak, so this was just about getting out there and running. Got that done. A relatively cool morning — had to take advantage, next week looks to be a hot one!
Friday intention: recover
I actually find recovery runs to be harder on the treadmill, but the air quality was pretty bad and I got it done. It’s harder to hold myself to that slower pace on the mill.

Favorites of the week
Bandit did have a much better week this week. Yes, taking care of him is still taking a lot of time and that probably won’t change, but he’s (mostly) eating, although he’s acquired some new quirks around that.
I enjoy watching the Wrens going back and forth to what I presume is their nest under our deck (can’t really see in there).
I really want to film some more videos outside, but between the rain and the bad air, it’s been super difficult! I only have a short time that I can film outside (and I really love practicing out there). To those celebrating, a Happy & Safe July Fourth. I will be at my moms, solo, because it’s far too hot in my mom’s apartment for Bandit and I really don’t think he’d be happy with the trip either.

ICYMI: Not sure why I’m clutching my shoulders when we’re supposed to be releasing tension, but this is a nice upper body Yin practice that also gets into your lower back and hips — really nice before sleep — click here for the video (live at 8 am). I also led a very short before sleep practice in my FB group this week — it’s what I do before bed (and in bed!) on the days I run — the replay is available in the group, which you can join here.
Coming up next Week: Sometimes the runfessions are hard to come up with if you’re “just running”, but the talk over hot beverages? There’s always something to talk about!
Glad to hear things are better with Bandit.
The weather was another story. But the flowers do need the rain. If only it would run only at night lol.
Enjoy the holiday with your mom.

They always look like angels when they slept, LOL! But like your missing your runs, he’s missing his walks. The air is beginning to clear but it’s pouring today.

I am so happy dear Bandit is feeling better! I have to agree with the pic of the hill…hills are always much more steep and longer than they appear in photos!

I squat down to photograph hills; but they still always look so much smaller. May have to go that way tomorrow. But ankle is feeling good, knock on wood!

Glad to hear you’ve reached a better stage with Bandit: well done. Re hills: I have done the exact same canal route twice in a row, both times before breakfast, but opposite directions. Today’s seemed much hillier but of course it must be the same! Claire said the hill on the common is shorter but sharper and that’s what it is, plus the way the run/walk intervals fell, but it seems weird to me!

I like to take opposite directions from my normal routes sometimes. Makes things more interesting!

I know it’s a lot of work but I’m sure Bandit appreciates all the TLC you’re giving him. It’s great to hear he’s eating. What a sweet pic of him. Well done on that hill!
We have a whole big, rainy day today and while I’m not thrilled to have a rainy day off, we desperately need the rain.

Same here re:rain but it’s stopped for now so will finally get out for a short walk. Feeding is an adventure & Bandit gets really stressed about it sometimes. Other times he chows down. You never know which Bandit will show up!

So happy to hear Bandit is doing ok – that photo of him sleeping is so stinkin’ cute!
Good for you for getting all the movement in. And that photo of the street definitely looks like a hill to me… as runners, we feel every 1% of extra incline!

Yes, although that hill is definitely more than 1%!

Thanks Lisa! I’ve been done this road before (but with a dog Although
It’s half Bandit’s age). It’s always an emotional roller coaster. I’m sure you can relate with all the kittens you foster!

Thx Jessie. Bandit is steady-ish for now. The ability to sleep through the night is a marvelous thing!

Glad to hear that Bandit is hanging in there and comfortable. It is hard sometimes to adjust. Great to that you could could get outside for running as well – by the way I moved from the flat part of town to the hilly part and I will still run downhill and try to find a less hilly uphill for the way home! Like go out of my way a few kilometres just to not go up too steep a hill!

I used to run up the big hill & I’m sure I will again but at the moment better to baby my Achilles more. But great minds think alike!
