We are, for now, in a decent place with Bandit. He seems to be feeling perkier and we’ve narrowed it down to meds in tuna 3 x day with 3 small meals a day — and he’s eating better. Before it was like 6 mini meals which he wouldn’t even necessarily eat plus the meds in tuna . . . a decent week of fitness too, despite the heat and high humidity! Oh yeah, that trip to my mom on the fourth, too.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and feeling groovy while I can.

Running Update

Monday intention: use the shade from the clouds to go long-er
Too bad it was actually very humid — low 70s with 87% humidity. That cloud cover helped tremendously. I really thought this was going to be a very slow run — it was just my normal slow, LOL, but it sure took something out of me for a bit!
Note to self: I hadn’t had any Nuun, and I meant to take a couple of Saltstick Chews before the run, but forgot to. When I stopped roughly halfway to take a photo, I had to stop longer because I was feeling a bit lightheaded — I was fine through the rest of the run. I also should have used the 10 oz water bottle (hello Summer, again!).

Thursday intention: use a shady path to go long-er again
I didn’t get out with the sunrise (which was very red), but I did get out there somewhat early. Thank goodness, because by the end of this run it was 80F feels like 84. Except for maybe the last mile or so, this run, while slow, went pretty well — best of all, I didn’t feel so wiped out afterwards.
Note to self: I heeded the note I wrote to myself above (on a cooler run!). I drank some Nuun before this run, in addition to my regular morning beverages (warm lemon water and green tea). I took my Saltstick Chews with me, and had two before the run. I wore my cooling neck gaiter. I stopped at my car right before I finished, to have another Saltstick chew and refill my water bottle. And I had another 2 chews before heading home. The path I chose was nice and shady, too, for the most part — this run in my own neighborhood could have been a death march (not too much shade).

Friday intention: recover
Whew! I did it — all three runs outside on a brutally hot and humid week. This one was a proper recovery run. Do I really need a recovery run from 4 miles? No, probably not. Just still slowly rebuilding so it works for me.

Favorites of the week
Bandit actually attempted to initiate “play” with a much larger dog on our walk on Friday. Just a few short weeks ago he wasn’t even wanting to walk (one of the things he loves).

Other than that there’s not a whole lot going on in my life except the normal stuff. Although we did finish up both 1923 and 1883 (in that order) on Paramount+, and Silo on Apple+ — all of which I recommend. We didn’t like the first episode of 1883 we watched, but then went on to watch 1923 and had to revisit 1883 and stuck with it and ultimate enjoyed it.
I am now pressuring Mr. Judy to get Peacock so we can watch Yellowstone, which is what I wanted in the first place. Of course we’ve missed the Summer deal we didn’t take because Mr. Judy read about the ads on Peacock. Guess what? Paramount+ has them too. Which upsets me — why do we have to pay for something with ads? But it’s cheaper than renting all four seasons of Yellowstone.
Not so favorite? On the 90F drive home from my mom, the check oil light came on about 30 minutes from home. Luckily Mr. Judy is generally prepared for that kind of stuff, so he talked me through popping the hood on his car & I added the oil he had in the car. Although I did have to ask a stranger to get the top off of the oil pan in the car — it was on there very tightly — and even he almost wasn’t able to do it! I swear that car hates me.

ICYMI: Above is one of my new favorite moves to help release arm tension and increase immunty too (by getting the lymph flowing) — click here for the video (live at 8 am). I also led a very short before sleep practice in my FB group this week — it’s what I do before bed (and in bed!) on the days I run — the replay is available in the group, which you can join here.
Coming up next Week: I may actually have a product review! Or not. Stay tuned.
Good for you getting all your runs in outdoors. It was a humid week.
Glad to hear Bandit is feeling better.

That humidity has been so oppressive! Electrolytes definitely help but I will be happy when fall weather arrives. Glad Bandit is feeling better

Definitely not wishing Summer away — just hoping someone can find the off button on the humidity!

I used the Saltstick chews for the first time recently, and I really liked them! It was a very hot and humid race (DAM to DSM) and I didn’t have any cramping issues and my recovery time was almost instantaneous. How do you like them?

I’ve been using Saltstick chews for literally years, because I’m not super fond of Nuun on the run. So I drink Nuun before and after, and use Saltstick during.
Before I started to do that I had horrible cramping! The hard part is carrying them.

Looks like you had a pretty good week! At yesterday’s race, they had Roctane at the aid station. I’ve never used it before but it didn’t upset my stomach and that is a win!

I’m glad there was no consequences from the Roctane!

Yay, I’m glad Bandit is feeling better. I’m curious about these Saltstick chews? I usually just drink an LMNT after a summer run, but if it’s going to be super long (haven’t done one of those in a while) I’ll take a salt tablet every hour. Anyway, I’m glad to hear your runs felt good in spite of the conditions!

You did a good job getting your runs in the outdoors. The humidity was just off the charts this week! I’ve never tried Saltstick chews – I’ll have to keep those in mind.
Glad Bandit is feeling better!

Phew, that’s hot. Good job on taking water and Nuun/Salt Chews (at least for the second run!).
I am so glad Bandit seems to be a in a good place!

I’m hank you! It’s still different, which won’t change, but for now he’s doing well & I have more time to get stuff done.

Oh, I’m so glad Bandit is doing better. ❤
I think every summer run calls for recovery. I am hoping it is decent enough to take Scooby out tomorrow.
We haven’t had Apple + in a while, but there are a few shows I’d like to watch on it.

Thank you! I think we wrapped up Apple+ for now. There are some shows we’ve watched that will get new episodes but not til the fall.

It’s always good when the Bandit news is positive. Give him some love for me.
We just got a new TV, and I don’t think we have Apple + on it anymore. It’s so much effort to find things to watch, so I just tend to not watch anything.

Thank you! We usually watch about 90 minutes of tv in the Eve. Well, I do. My husband watches much more.

I think there’s a fine line between a good & bad challenge personally. I’m challenged plenty right now! Part of me wants to read Silo now but I also don’t want to know what will happen!
