Overdue on the Trails: 7/24 – 30 WRD

It was another busy week, but this time at least there were some fun things on the calendar! Normally I’d be going to see my mom again next week, but when a BBQ took my sister there this week, I decided I could use a little breather.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and doing the best juggling I can. A little light in some areas this week, but I think I needed a slight break.

Running Update

Hydrangea beginning to bloom

Monday intention: go long-er
Got up and knew it just wasn’t the right day to do a long-er run, even though the weather was nice. Plus we wanted to go to the movies, and time was a bit tight. Garmin said I had my fastest mile during this run — that last mile with the strides. I’ve only been using it a week so don’t get too excited. But it was negative splits.

Hydrangea beginning to turn white

Wednesday intention: maintain
A foggy, cool morning made running pleasant and it was a decent run, even if my legs felt heavy & I was tired. That is all.

Nice day to hit the trails

Sunday intention: go long-er
I have not done any trail running in 6 months, and it showed in how I felt on this run — sort of on the struggle bus, despite a spectacular morning. There was some group running at the trail today, but that was fine. My pace was all over the place on this run, but I expected it to be slower so overall pleased. I definitely forgot how hard trails can feel, even a relatively easy trail.

Baby groundhog was not afraid of us; just kept munching

Favorites of the week
Was able to briefly connect with some running friends. Always nice to walk with a friend, even if the day was disgustingly humid.

Lovely & free

I had signed up for this free concert/meditation at my library a while ago. Thankfully the severe thunderstorms hadn’t yet appeared. The woman on the left had an angelic voice. The whole thing was very soothing (and why I couldn’t hang around after our walk).

We also finally saw the new Indiana Jones movie this week. One and a half times. The first time there was a storm and a power surge, and after waiting 30 minutes (and the power going off again) it was apparent the movie wasn’t starting again anytime soon.

We got free passes, and went back to see it several days later — with more storms in the forecast. It did rain while we were in the theater but thankfully we got to see the entire this time.

Coming up next Week: I always have time for some tea. 🙂

  1. We saw the Indiana Jones movie as well and didn’t love it as much as previous ones but always entertaining. Trail running is always harder than I think it will be as I rarely do it. Great way to mix things up

  2. Your trail looks beautiful!!! I’m envious. And that baby groundhog is cute. I’m surprised he wasn’t afraid of you! Sounds like a nice week with lots of fun things. Walking with a friend must have been nice!

  3. Awh, the baby groundhog! Unfortunately, I don’t have much for trails nearby, but I can relate to how much tougher they are when I do manage to get on one (it’s been a few years, though).

  4. I’ve run nothing but trails for several months so I’m going to give myself props. Haha! That trail pic sure is lovely. Baby GH is adorable. I’ve been seeing lots of baby bunnies and squirrels.

  5. The trail picture from Wednesday is lovely and looks like a beautiful place to get lost in thought while running. It actually reminds me of a trail in Blacksburg we used to run on when we were in town for VT football games.

  6. I do hope to see Barbie and Oppenheimer. I didn’t hear good things about Indiana jones. But don’t go to the movies often anyway

Today was a great weather day to run. I wish it was better yesterday. Maybe I’ll get lucky next Sat.

    1. Lol yes the baby groundhog was very focused on its breakfast. Still odd, they’re usually very skittish (there’s a groundhog mama who’s been living at our neighbors for years, so we see the babies sometimes).

  7. I think it’s great you hit the trail even if. you feel like you were a bit all over the place. gotta (re) start somewhere! and you had a groundhog sighting as a bonus!

so your hydrogenous turn white? I thought they were specific colors based on the ground used? I have a purple bush and a pink one, and one that didn’t flower because it was covered up by a giant weed that I thought was something else haha!
