Did my vet call this week? Absolutely not. I called on Monday. I called on Tuesday — when I finally got to speak to a human, I asked to speak with the Hospital Manager. She was in surgery, but the receptionist (whom I’ve talked to a few times by now) grabbed a different vet and she finally went over the results with me (almost 5 weeks later, no exaggeration).

The short story is while there are some anomalies, in the absence of symptoms they are chalking it up to old age. The receptionist said the regular vet will call me by Friday She did not disappoint — IOW, she never called.

Running Update

As seen on the run — cute but apparently the paint not always so good for nature

Saturday intention: just run
It was a warm day and I got to run in a skirt. The run went pretty well, but the next day (today) I’m definitely kind of depleted despite a decent night sleep. The next couple of days will be rainy and I’ll get some rest so hopefully I can run at least a couple of times next week (a visit to mom needs to happen, too).

I don’t love the short days, but I do love that lower sun peeking through the trees
Reflections in the hood

I may not have run much, but there was plenty of walking and I tried my best to capture the beauty of Fall. We were blessed with the return of Indian Summer for a few days.

Fall is winding down but I’m soaking up as much as I can
Congress Park, Saratoga Springs

Favorites of the week
I met a friend for a walk at a local park. The next day Mr. Judy and I headed up to Saratoga Springs for some more of my favorite pizza, and eventually closer to home the last ice cream of the season. Our original plan was to explore Saratoga Historical Park — we seem to go every few years — but we didn’t want to drive that much out of the way so we revisited Congress Park in downtown Saratoga Springs.

We were disturbed that on the outskirts of the park there seems to be a growing homeless problem — downtown is literally steps away — but my thoughts are always “there but for the grace of God”. You never know what someone’s story is (cue the Matthew Perry tears).

Anticipating a treat

ETA: I forgot to mention the critters this week! I thought I saw an eagle in the hood one day but Mr. Judy poo-poo’d me. The next day we saw two of them right in front of our house (too quickly for photos). Did you know that eagle s generally don’t migrate, unless they live in cold areas (like NY!). Albie has been sighted a few times lately and Mr. Judy got some nice photos of him yesterday as he was posing on our front maple.

  1. Happy anniversary! I love that photo of you and Bandit headed over the bridge — the colors are gorgeous!

Yay on the good runs! My Garmin beeps at me and does a 30 sec countdown before doing an autosave, but sometimes it does seem to have a mind of its own.

    Boo on the vet!

  2. Happy anniversary to you both! 38 years is something to celebrate! Glad to see you had a nice outing and day together.
Our leaves are a little lackluster this year too due to all the rain

    1. We don’t always get to go out on our actual anniversary (weather!) so this was a nice treat.

Some trees are really stunning, but there’s a lot of green. Apparently some lilacs are reblooming (but not ours).

  3. Looks like you celebrated your anniversary in a place and with people and animals you love! Perfect! I really thought this weekend would be peak colors for us but now I’m not so sure. There is the “S” word in the forecast though so it’ll all grind to an end soon I guess.

    1. Oh no on the S word! We’re supposed to have a few mornings in the 30s but not freezing. The weather kind of sucks this weekend here anyway.

38 years ago we were cruising around the Caribbean . . . sounds good doesn’t it?

  4. Awww, it sounds like you had a nice anniversary outing. And how nice that Bandit was invited inside the restaurant (who’s a good boy?!)

At this point it is about principle. I’d nag the vet until they respond.

  5. Nice that you had good weather for your anniversary.

Ours is in January and it seems I’m away for work every year (and again in 2024). No one remembers anyway not even my hubby unless I remind him. LOL

Only drizzled today… phew. And the temps have been great for running,

  6. Happy Anniversary! I’m glad it was such a nice day. It looks like all three of you enjoyed it! And I’m glad running felt good this week. Yes, you never know which runner is going to show up. Sometimes I’ll sleep horribly and then get up and have a great run- go figure.
Your photos are pretty even without a lot of fall colors!

  7. Happy anniversary! Looks like you had beautiful weather! I thought the trees weren’t going to change colors at all and then overnight, we had peak color.

    1. Our color has been slow and random. My husband is not pleased that so much is green, because he figures he won’t be able to get rid of the leaves before it snows. I told him don’t be a buzzkill — although I understand.

  8. Happy Anniversary! It’s nice that Momma N came through and treated you to a nice day of weather 😉 And, YAY for some good running!!

  9. Happy anniversary! Looks like you had some good weather for it. That’s interesting what you say about the trees and rain. Where I live we don’t get much of autumn colours but there’s more in the city. I’m thinking it has to do with being close to the sea but I have no idea really.
Good to hear you had a good week of running!

  10. It was our anniversary this week too, just 15 years vs. your 38! Incredible, Congratulations! Sounds like a really nice week with lots of fresh fall air 🙂

  11. Happy Anniversary! And glad Mr Judy’s jury service wasn’t too long. I got called for it just as I went full-time self-employed, but then just sat in a waiting room with my BlackBerry the whole time (I think I was on a list for one case but they suddenly pleaded guilty at the last minute).

    1. I got called many years ago, when I was still running a business, before cell faces. I was on a jury for a week. Nowadays they often let you go if that’s the case but then it wasn’t as prevalent.

Last time I was called I didn’t have to go in at all & therefore have a few more years of peace.

  12. I will probably never be called back for jury duty after my experience earlier this year lol! Oh, well.

Happy anniversary! It looks like it was wonderful. And I am so happy that you are back to running and it is going well.

As always, Bandit is so sweet. I’m sorry the vet hasn’t called, but I’m glad he’s doing ok.

  13. I’m not seeing where to comment from today’s post (Oct. 29), so I’ll drop a comment here. Well, at least you have a little more info from the vet office, though it still sounds rather inconclusive. Nice pics of the fall foliage! Looks like you totally have Bandit’s attention in that final pic 😉

  14. Yes, the comments here are screwy- but this should work.
Your photos are incredible! I see the leaves are still inconsistent- some trees have turned and some are still green. Interesting!
Glad Bandit is holding steady. Have you thought about switching vets?
I hope you have a good week, and feel recharged. Good luck with the trip to Mom’s.

    1. Yup, of course I’ve thought about switching vets. But Bandit is comfortable there & doesn’t adapt well to change. I may try to switch vets within the practice.

Yup, the trees changing has been weird this year. Probably because we’ve had so much rain & in general warmer than normal weather (until now).

  15. Old comments, new post — but you know that by now. 😉

You had some lovely fall colors this week!

Sorry you’ve had such poor service from the vet, but at least the news is mostly good.

I hope you have time to join us for coffee (tea) but no worries if not!

    1. Well I thought I’d be whipping up some runfessions last week. I was very tired last week & realized my energy was better spent elsewhere. Pretty sure I didn’t have anything earth shattering to share anyway.

  16. You had some really pretty fall photos this week. It seems like the trees are not quite as vibrant here this fall. Too bad you have had such a hard time with your Vet communication. I don’t have too much patience for that kind of treatment! Hope you can make it to coffee 🙂

    1. It’s harder & harder to get a good vet & Bandit isn’t a very adaptable dog. Some vets aren’t even taking new customers.

We’ve been going there 7 years, though, and this test wasn’t cheap. But we’re between a rock & s hard place.

At least I love the cardiologist, although we shouldn’t have to see him for almost half a year.

  17. I’m sorry the vet is so flaky. That’s not fair. However, Bandit looks so distinguised waiting for his treat.

I am soaking up fall vicariously through all my friends’ blogs. I love all the colors.

    Leaving a testimonial now!

    1. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

Bandit is still coughing (and I guess he always will, but it’s not that bad now), but now that it’s cooler I can feed him much earlier which is nice. Unfortunately he’s due for his rabies shot. I just hate doing that at his age. A very good chance it will be the last one at least.
