How bout the time change?: 11/6 – 11/12 WRD

I don’t usually feel as though the time change effects me that much, but this one sure did. I had to shuffle around my runs because it took me longer to recover. Today, finally, after a short run yesterday I’ve recovered better. Good thing, too, because I have another busy week on tap.

WordPress is still doing wonky things, though, because I know I wrote some stuff during the week which seems to have disappeared.

Running Update

App says it’s Bittersweet. Never noticed these berries before though.

Tuesday intention: long-er run
After two weeks at the same path it was time for a change of scenery. My last 4 mile run felt pretty good; this one felt harder. I blame the time change. Oddly I barely saw any squirrels on this run. Are they all at the other part of the path?

Rain was over by the time I ran

Thursday intention: recover (a day late)
I wanted to do a recovery run on Wednesday, but still dragging. I thought about going 3 miles but decided 2 was enough for today.

Some trees still have leaves, some are still hanging on to a few, & some are stripped bare

Saturday intention: run easy
It was cold and windy (even in the late morning) and I just got it done. Don’t let the pretty blue sky fool you!

I looked to see if there was buds last week & nada. Didn’t look for them this week & they suddenly popped out.

Favorites of the week
Bandit is still loving his pupsicle (Amazon Affiliate link here) — it kept him mostly occupied when we went out to eat this week. It’s funny, he tries to shake the treat out, because what we used before (which maybe occupied him for 10 minutes tops), he had to roll it around to get the treats out. Except today he wouldn’t touch it — of course I’d just bought more replacement treats for it.

I also got the news that my sister is going to go to my mom’s for Thanksgiving; her daughter said she wanted to spend Thanksgiving with Grandma. Yes, we could still go, but it was going to be really hard with Bandit — we can’t leave him at home that long, our regular petsitter wanted us to drop him off at 9 am and pick him up by 5 pm — reasonable and understandable of course, but that meant leaving here before 8:30 because it’s a 30 minute drive. It was going to be a long day.

So long story short for the first time in many years we can enjoy a relaxing Thanksgiving and maybe even watch the parade! Now we just have to figure out Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, and I have to go to my mom’s next week and stay overnight because her aide is going away for two months. I am just onboarding the replacement aide, but it’s going to be really hard on my mom.

  1. The time change still has me waking up an hour early… too bad I don’t go to sleep any earlier.

    My cactus blossomed for Halloween!?

I thought yesterday morning was lovely… perfect for a run but since no one was running really long, we didn’t start until 8:30.

Now you have no excuse not to run a turkey trot.

    1. Except I don’t really want to run a turkey trot. But I’m glad I don’t have to be there Sunday, Monday, and then turn around on Thainksgiving. And we’re trying to decide what the heck to eat (neither one of us loves turkey).

  2. I saw those berries on my run last week too–I have never seen them before. Thanks you for the ID.

My sister is hosting for Thanksgiving–I’ll do Christmas. My boys are both joining us with their girlfriends. It should be fun!

  3. My two cactuses are blooming like crazy! I bought them both last year, right before Christmas (half price, score!!), and both were in full bloom. The blooms died off, only to return in the spring (which really surprised me). Now, boom! Both are at it again.

  4. We are hosting Thanksgiving and will have a big full house. I am really excited to have my kids home. Sounds like it might be nice for you to enjoy a lower key, more relaxing thanksgiving this year.

  5. Ooh, how nice you get to spend a relaxing Thanksgiving at home! That worked out well for all three of you (you, your husband and Bandit.)
I love the time change, but I agree it can be a little adjustment. But I’m loving the light in the early mornings now!

  6. I’m in denial about Thanksgiving. I’ll figure it out this weekend I guess. 🙂

Scooby isn’t interested enough in food to use those treat toys. He’ll gnaw on the plastic, but that’s not the point!

    1. But it’s almost time for PITA Apple pie! 🤣 It was really weird how the first few times we gave the pupsicle to Bandit he loved it & then wouldn’t touch it. We’ll probably try again today; it’s been a few days. He’s eating well so I’m not worried about him.

  7. I’m glad you don’t have to do that back-to-back trip to your mom’s now that your sister is visiting her. We are doing two Thanksgivings this year. On Tuesday I’ll make Thanksgiving dinner for my mom and on Thursday we’ll be with our son, d-i-l, and her family in Charlotte.

  8. I’m glad your sister is going to see your mom so you get a break. Quiet Thanksgivings can be nice – we are traveling with the pugs, and it’s going to be mayhem.

I didn’t feel the time change at all. We traveled from the Eastern time zone to Central on Friday, stayed there a day, fell back an hour, and then drove from Central to Eastern on Sunday. For some reason, it felt like nothing happened, other than the dogs demanding food at 4PM.

    1. Silly pugs. It doesn’t usually effect me, but I’ve also been a bit meh so that may explain it.

We traveled once for Thanksgiving many years ago. It was wonderful. We didn’t have dogs yet, though. Good luck!
