I’ll get to that below. Let’s just say the week started out really rough, but ended well (except for the rain).

Running Update
Tuesday intention: just run
I needed more rest on Monday — but that helped me dodge a bullet because it unexpectedly rained. All day! Kept it in the hood and knew my body needed an easy run and that’s exactly what I gave it.
Thursday intention: just run
There was unexpected (seemed a theme for this week) snow overnight, and a very cold morning. I waited a long time (hoping the snow on the road would melt), put on my screw shoes, and took it slow. There were just a few icy patches I had to walk over. As always the hard part is getting out of my own driveway.
Saturday intention: socialize
Finally managed to meet up with a friend to run! It’s been forever since I’ve run with someone (and seen this friend — she had a much tougher week than I did!), but it was a full circle moment because we used to run together a lot until she had knee problems (no, really). It was so nice to chat and catch up with each other.
Favorites of the week
As I said in the beginning, the week did not start off well. Mr. Judy’s former boss, who we knew had been diagnosed with ALS, passed away over the weekend. Then on Monday I found out a friend had had some bad news, which led to trouble sleeping. Bad things come in threes, right?
Tuesday there was going to be all sorts of craziness with the replacement aide, requiring another replacement aide for parts of the next two weeks, and my going to stay overnight the next two weekends. I wasn’t happy, but not much I can do about it. I especially didn’t like today’s forecast — 100% chance of rain, knocking out any chance of stopping somewhere along the way.
The current aide is our very own Christmas angel, though, and long story short she’s staying put (at personal cost to herself) because as she said “mommy will be too confused”. Yes, apparently she calls my mom mommy. I don’t even call her that!
I feel so badly for her, but at the same time my sister and I are so relieved — my sister was going to have to call out of work at the busiest time of year. Not to mention the rain will turn to Wintry mix overnight into Monday — so glad I can just ride it out at home.

My mom had so much trouble organizing aides for my grandmother years ago. it is a really tough job emotionally and physically. When you find the right ones, they really are angels. Glad you have a running friend again 🙂

I’ll still be running alone, for a variety of reasons, but it was so great to get together with my friend. I don’t see her enough. Any of my friends. 😦
My mom had an aide for my grandmother but by that point I lived in a different state. This one is only here for the 6 weeks while the “permanent” aide is gone — she could easily have just left us scrambling (this was unexpected on her end). So much gratitude to her.

I will probably attempt a dog on a Santa hat this week (if I can carve out the time).
I think all the aides actually do care. And it’s such a difficult but important job. I would go insane doing it!

Managing elder care is such a struggle not to mention stressful. How nice of the aide to stay for “mommy”. What a blessing. Boo on the wintery mix. I think I’d prefer snow. That said, our mild weather is gone for now and winter is back. Oh well. Love the art!

It has started to rain but we got ahead of it to walk Bandit.
My mom is literally the last of her generation. She was the baby (like me). Can’t say enough good things about what the aide did!

Sorry about your husband’s boss. My husband also has a friend with ALS and he’s doing terribly. It’s so depressing. Anyway… I hope you have a good week Judy!

I’m so sorry about your husband’s friend. It really is a terrible disease. His boss was only 70; only got to enjoy a couple of years of retirement. My husband also had an aunt who passed from it. 😦
It took me a while to put my finger on what was wrong with the Santa Cat. I just knew something was off. At least if I do a Jewish one at some point I can correct it!

What a precious kitty painting! You had some amazing talent, with watercolors nonetheless. I do alright with oils and acrylics, but watercolors were always more of a challenge because the colors can “bleed” excessively if you’re not careful. That’s comforting that the aide is calling your mother “Mommy.” How sweet 😉

I kind of find her calling her mommy a little creepy, but o know that’s her culture. And seriously she didn’t have to do this!
When I painted decades ago it was acrylics & a little bit of oils. I always stayed away from watercolor because I thought it was “hard”. I swear I’ve forgotten everything I knew about acrylics! But watercolors aren’t as hard as they’re made out to be & it’s easier for me to do a little here & there.
They also make water mixable oils — I’ve bought a course but not the supplies yet (they’re a bit pricey). I’m excited to try it get at some point!

Huge relief! There’s a lot of work that goes into staying overnight & the weather this weekend is pretty ugly. This week got better quickly when I knew I could be home (although there will be a trip, just got the day, next week.

Yes there are good people in this world (better than me!). The screws in the bottom of old shoes help with snow, and it wasn’t a lot. You just have to slow down & do your best. But tomorrow I will almost certainly be on the mill. Looks like we might get a few inches — after rain. That isn’t something I’m going to run in!

Good news about the aide.
I haven’t painted in many years except for those paint n sip classes. My artsy side got replaced by tennis and then running.

I’m glad your aide came good. We have a really good one for my in-laws – she does personal care AND cleaning!!! However she has a few problems in her life, we just hope she does stay around … Lovely cat pic and I’m enjoying people’s proper snowy pictures!

I’m glad your in laws have a great aide. They already clean where my mom lives, but the aide does some of the laundry, prepares meals when she doesn’t eat in the dining room, washes dishes, etc. it is hard work!

That’s such a blessing and a relief to have help that cares so much! So sorry about the passing of a friend and the other bad news. I have a coworker who is battling ALS right now. It’s not going well. What a devastating disease.
