A lot of my first 2016 runfessions center around the cold — and what it keeps me from doing. As if that’s an excuse! We can always find an excuse, can’t we?

Today I’m joining up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice to share my runfessions, because runfessions are good for the soul (and sometimes they get us doing the things we ought to be doing, too; nothing like a little public shaming).

I runfess . . .
I spend a lot of time in my pajamas in the winter. Like maybe half the day if I don’t have to go out? I spend even more time in my slippers, because they’re nice and warm.

I runfess . . .
I have all sorts of warm running gear. Plenty of warm running gear.

Does that stop me from accumulating more because . . . I need it? NOT!

I will too often turn to the treadmill, despite those warm running clothes, if I have no one to meet up with.

Sometimes it’s the right thing to do — my immune system doesn’t need to be out there on a day that’s 20F but feels like -5 with the windchill. Just because you can, doesn’t necessarily mean you should.

Mostly it’s a mental thing. I know once I get out there and moving, it won’t be that bad. But getting out there could take me all morning!

I feel little aches and pains in my feet on and off the past month. It concerns me, considering I’m not training for a race (well, just started) and I’m running pretty low mileage and not tackling hills.

They don’t bother me at all while I’m running.

I actually think that maybe it’s related to point #1: I’m spending way too much time walking around in unsupportive slippers.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Since I wrote about it they seemed to have stopped bothering me. And I’m still walking around in slippers half the day!

I have not been keeping track of the mileage on my running shoes. I write down which shoes I wear on my runs, but I haven’t totaled that up at all.

It’s one of my goals for 2016.

I would rather stay nice and warm in my bed than get up and do some yoga, even if I’m not sleeping.

Because, cold. Especially since I do my yoga downstairs, which is colder than our upstairs.

So I’m often squeezing in just 10 or 15 minutes before I go to bed (if that), when I have plenty of time in the morning if I’d just get myself out of bed.

I have been doing a lot of grocery shopping in running clothes lately. Before. After.

I wonder what people think of my running tights, shoes — what they can see of it, anyway, beneath my almost ankle length down coat. That I’m wearing on days that aren’t even all that cold, because either it’s been really windy or I’m shopping after I run and I’m sweaty and get chilled if I don’t put on that godawful (but warm) coat.

Seriously, they must be thinking it’s really not that cold, why is she wearing that monstrosity?
