Last week I wrote that I thought things were looking up — how wrong I was (as I got into a bit yesterday).
I did my best to stay a little active while I was away — it wasn’t easy; the only thing that helped was that my parents don’t get moving very fast in the morning. I’m wrapping it up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin because you just never know who you might inspire.

Running update
Monday
Since my brother was still there, I got out for an early morning run. He wouldn’t leave my father alone, not even for a few minutes, so that got me moving that last mile because I knew he wanted to get to the hospital early!
The doe and fawn above had a different idea about that . . . I really needed this run!
Thursday
It was a totally miserable run. My sister came in the morning so I could get a run in. Originally she was going to come over after she dropped my niece off at the train station, but I told her to come later, because I was too tired to get out that early to run.
The joke was on me, because just about when I was ready to run, the visiting nurse came. So I didn’t go out until 11:30. And forgot my anti chafing cream. It was a hot, miserable run. I hadn’t eaten anything since about 6 am. I had water with me, but not enough. I’d planned to get in 4 miles but I just couldn’t do it. And I had a stitch on both sides!
I did explore a new place to run near my parents’ home that my niece had recommended.
Someone I’d contacted called me halfway through this run; I couldn’t see who it was in the bright sunshine, then could barely talk . . . I could feel my underarms chafing towards the end and tried to run holding my upper arms away from my body . . .
The only “positive” thing about this run was the positive splits.
Sunday
I got home in the late afternoon Friday, stopping to pick up Bandit along the way, a 2 hour drive altogether because Bandit’s kennel is not quite on the way. I knew my running group had a 6 am run planned; I also knew that wasn’t happening for me. I contacted Darlene, but she was also running Saturday — again, not happening for me.
So I set out to run 10 miles solo Sunday morning. A beautiful day to run, but because my mom had had some issues the previous evening, I felt I had to call and check on her. She seems to be doing much better today, but that meant I didn’t get out until 9 am, finished about 11:30 . . . despite the low humidity and low temps, it was still mid 70s by the time I finished and those last 3 miles were hard. Especially that last half mile.
The plan actually only called for 9 miles, but since I’d missed that long run while I was sick, and I haven’t been able to run much, I wanted to get in 10. I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen in quite some time about mile 3; we stopped to chat, and it turns out, unfortunately, that she is going through something very similar with her own mom. So we commiserated for a while — and she’s an only child!
Favorites of the week
Gotta say there wasn’t a whole lot good about this week. I got in 10 miles & no niggling aches and pains (today, anyway), so that’s good.
Mr. Judy took this cool photo of Bandit & Lola. Of course that was before he had diarrhea all night again (Bandit, that is, not Mr. Judy, who kindly took on taking care of Bandit last night), no doubt due to boarding again, as he’d been good before and during and during the first day afterward.
Hoping for a better week coming up. I still have to go back to my parents, but I’m hoping to be home by Wednesday. So I’ll be a bit scarce with posting and reading for a while longer. And replying to comments. And squeezing in my runs are still going to be a major challenge!
And that’s a wrap 😔
No questions today. Still got a lot of stuff to do today!
I feel for you, Judy.
I ran today, too, after Mass (I had planned on going last night but life got in the way. I don’t have to tell you….) so my morning was skewed. It was pleasant, low seventies with a breeze but bright sunshine. It was a much harder outing than yesterday, even though I did 2.5 miles both days. My long run days are over.
I love early morning but that’s not in the cards right now. 1,028 days until retirement. 🙂
Best wishes to you as you care for your Mom, and, by extension, your Dad.
The photo of your to furry little ones is precious and priceless. I hope that Bandit’s “bathroom’ issue subside once he settles in back home.
Thinking of you as you head back to your folks.

Bandit was fine last night, thankfully. Lola had one of her gagging spells that kept me up (doesn’t hurt her); can’t seem to catch a break. 😞
Running later in the day in bright sunshine is tough! We Hyannis aid coming in tomorrow, so I hope I can get in a couple of short runs while I’m here but it will still be challenging.

Hope your mom is recovering…it’s hard being the caregiver! This summer was tough between taking care of my son with the broken leg and my dad with his back. I didn’t have to take care of my dad but the phone calls from my mom were very stressful.
Looks like Bandit is doing well, in spite of his diarrhea.
Hang in there.

You definitely had a super stressful summer, too!
My mom is hanging in there. We see the surgeon tomorrow & I’m a bit apprehensive about what will happen afterwards, but I’ll have some help at least.

Thanks, Deborah. My mom is hanging in; recovery is tough when you’re 88.

I’m glad you got in some runs. I hope your mom is doing well. That is such as sweet picture of Bandit and Lola. It’s nice to see they can along well. Bummer about the diarrhea, though.

Thankfully the diarrhea resolved itself relatively quickly.
I’m not sure I’d say my mom is doing better, but not worse & still at home, so that’s good.

I hope all is going well for your mother. Poor Bandit and the diarrhea…is the food they’re giving him? or the stress of being in a strange place?

No, we bring his food. He’s had bathroom issues since we got him, but things had finally firmed up.
It could be the water, but my guess is that it’s mainly anxiety-he did well there, but the truth is we’ve only had him 2 months.

I try not to put too much pressure on myself when life is hard. I find I only have so much mental energy, so if I take a couple days off of running ? That’s ok. Life happens. Give yourself a break, you have had a tough summer.

I am definitely adjusting my running schedule- for me it really helps with stress. And I need to get in a minimum weekly mileage-not really where I want to be but doing the best I can.

I’m really sad to hear of your mother’s poor health. It sounds challenging juggling everything but you’re a champ for being there to help. Running is always cathartic during stressful times even if I don’t feel like doing it, so kudos to you for persevering no matter what time you get out. I hope things improve soon!

Running (when I can do it) really helps me destress. I’m hoping to squeeze in one tomorrow but it’s gonna be a busy day.

Sounds like a rough week, but you did your best with your running. And your dogs are cute even if they’re trouble!

Running helps. 🙂 Mr. Judy likes to say that being cute is animals’ only defense!
I just haven’t had a full night’s sleep in a week. I thought I’d get it at home but then the dogs killed that!

Hope you have a better week than last. We’ll get to run together at some point but maybe not until you are finished training for your half.
I usually run Mon, Wed, Thurs – 3-4 miles – all easy. I plan to add around 5-7 miles after my race on the Zim Smith Trail on Sat.

If I’m home I’ll need to add 4-5 after my race sat (different race) but not sure when that might be (time wise) and that assumes everything goes well tomorrow.

I hope things look up for you and your family soon! You’re in my thoughts. Great job with the workouts considering everything going on. I bet it was great to get out on that long run.

I do hope you have a better week ahead and are able to get some rest. I know facing family health issues are never easy and always stressful. Hang in there as best you can and I hope you can sneak some running in there to help with the stress. ADORABALE pic of the pups btw. Hope bandits bathroom issues subside soon!!!

You did great getting some workouts in while you were juggling everything with your parents. So sad to read that they aren’t doing well. Oh, and poor Bandit! Beautiful pics of the sunrise and the wildlife. Love the print on that cascade skirt.

Well, summer is still living right here! I hope your Mother continues to improve and can return home soon. You got a special treat on your early morning run with the deer. I’m always quite surprised and annoyed to still get side stitches after all this time. So random. Doggie diarrhea is awful. I hope Bandit won’t get that the next time he is boarded! Mr. Judy captured a great picture of the both of them. Thanks for linking, Judy!

I feel for you, it is hard to cover so many needs. I hope your Mom comes through all this okay! I relate to your friend, I am my mom’s only child, really her only family left now.
Try to take it one day at a time and hopefully next week will see some improvement.
My arms always chafe too, it stings!

Wow that is a tiny turtle!
Thank goodness for Mr. Judy! Hope you have a better week

I actually do like early morning runs, but the last couple of years have been tough it’s hard to motivate myself out the door that early & there’s usually some animal task that needs doing.
Have a great race this weekend, Tricia!
