We may have “sprung forward”, and spring is technically just around the corner, but that doesn’t always mean much up here in upstate NY. It was a very cold week until the weekend, and then there was snow and sleet this morning.
We do have a warming trend coming up next week. It’s definitely a tease, because the lows can still be quite chilly. Not quite time to break out the skirts yet!

Running Updates

Monday
I’m not into #nevermissamonday at all, but I did get after it with a short recovery run on the treadmill. We got about 5 more inches of snow overnight. Nothing exciting (not always a bad thing).
Tuesday
Today actually would have been another good day to run outdoors. It wasn’t windy and it wasn’t really that bad temperature wise, I found out when we walked the dogs. It was another short run and I don’t really regret doing it on the treadmill.
I took a cue from Kim @ Runningontheflyand increased my pace a smidge each 800 meters (she does 400s, but I’m not training for anything). Still enjoying short runs.

Friday
“Warmed up” with some grocery shopping, then hit the park for 5 miles. A lot of back & forth because while about 90% of the paths are clear, there are lots of large icy patches still. Still on the cool side but bright sunshine so it was a nice day to run & a nice strong run.
Saturday
I was off to my parents for my mom’s pre-birthday celebration — her actual birthday is today but we were graced with more snow & ice. I didn’t have much time before I left so it was 2 easy progressive miles on the mill; I increased the pace a tiny bit from Tuesday’s easy progressive run.

Favorites of the week
I helped my mom celebrate her 91st birthday yesterday — how many people get to say that? And my brother, my sister, and one of my nieces were there, too. In 2 weeks we help my Dad celebrate his 93rd.

My brother lives on the West Coast, so we don’t see that often. He does come more often this days since his daughter is working and living in NYC, and just because my parents are so elderly.
On the flip side, I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to on Friday because the pipes backed up during my shower (not actually in my shower, thankfully), so I had to help move all the stuff out of the downstairs shower (which Mr. Judy uses for storage). Fun times. This is the first house we’ve ever had that problem with — and this is the second time it’s happened. Apparently only when I shower, as both times it happened while I was showering.
Talk to me:
Who did you celebrate for International Woman’s Day?
Are you still running through Winter?
Bothered by the time change?
We also got more snow on Monday which made me sad, lol. We got so much snow the first few days of March that it was comical.
Happy Birthday to your mom! And that cheesecake looked divine! 🙂

The cheesecake was good, but not great. Looked better than it tasted, not that it tasted bad. Not a bad thing, as I was able to keep it to a tiny sliver. 🙂
It’s actually supposed to get up to 60 by Friday. Unfortunately it’s also supposed to rain that day. Still, it’s a sign that spring will come . . . some day.

Happy Birthday to your Mom.
Yesterday was perfect running weather. And then today it’s back to winter.
I’d bee excited about the time change if I were running often. More daylight after work Woo Hoo.
Never had the pipes back up but plenty of leaking problems.

Friday was also great running weather. For obvious reasons I couldn’t run saturday (not long, anyway, and going someplace would just have tacked on more time to an already extremely long day).
This is our third home — second house, and we also lived in a condo when we first got married. It’s the only place we’ve had that problem.
But there are always problems with owning a home. Unfortunately.

Sure is. We need a new roof. Carpeting. Painting. It never ends.

The time change totally messes me up. Tomorrow morning will be rough. Happy happy birthday to your mom! Looks like she felt very special. Thanks for linking up

I love your photo through the fence.
I used to do shift work and had no issue flying home from Japan for the weekend – now an hour kills me.
HBD to your mom and your dad soon. What a treasure to be able to celebrate their longevity. My grandma almost made 96 and her mom made 99.
I spent IWD at the Gloria Steinem play – so powerful

Happy birthday to your mother! 91 is such a blessing! I hope she had a great day 🙂
I’m grateful that temperatures are finally starting to climb into the 40’s…it’s just been obnoxiously cold and I’m over it!
I’m feeling pretty good about the time change right now…the falling back always messes with me pretty badly and takes forever to adjust. With spring forward, so far, so good!

Happy Birthday to your mom! It’s winter and windy as all get out here today but we’ve got bright sunshine right now so I’ll take it. I intended to do ZOOMA’s Women’s Day virtual but my body was not onboard so I ran “in spirit”. Haha!

How did you like those speed progressions? Even if I’m doing an “easy” TM run, I HAVE to do something to add some spunk to it. I do the 400m surges (sometimes), but also (sometimes) nudge the pace a little in 800 increments. I think all the previous runs (run at pretty much the same pace for the duration) have wreaked a little havoc on my mental game LOL

I most likely will do a 5 mile race the beginning of April, but I’m not really pushing hard right now.
Generally I’ve always kind of like speed work on the mill. At the moment, I’m just really tired of feeling cold on the run! Today I could definitely run outside, but I’m not going to. Maybe tomorrow, which will actually be colder . . . (but I think less windy).

Happy Birthday to your mom!
I am getting back to the groove of running this Winter. Not fun.
The time change does affect me. I know I will be tired along with 21 of my students. Should be a fun day tomorrow.

I think falling back effects me more than springing forward. Not sure why.

Happy birthday to your mom! Lovely that you had a nice lot of family there. We have had a sudden cold snap again – I was running in high winds with some hail thrown in yesterday! No time change woes here yet – that’s the end of the month. Which is always weird.

We actually don’t all get together super often, as my brother lives on the West coast, and my sister often works weekends, so yes, it was nice (and nice for my parents).
Oh no! I’m not sure I’ve ever run in hail . . . yet.

happy birthday Judy’s mom!!! what an amazing age to reach!
we haven’t changed the time yet. I think end of the month. I wish we were globally more consistent with things like this!!

Isn’t it weird how the world doesn’t change the time at the same time? Not even all the states do (a couple of states just don’t change it at all).

Thank you! She is definitely pretty strong for her age. Always has been — she was a tomboy (not me!).

Happy birthday to your mom and happy early birthday to your dad! That cheesecake looks amazing!
I got up at 5 AM today to get outside by 5:30 to run my 2 miles and it wasn’t until later in the day that I realized that my body thought I’d gotten up at 4 AM. I was fine all day with clients, but now that I’m reading and relaxed, it’s hitting me! I have 6 AM clients the rest of the week, so I’d better adjust quickly. LOL

The first 2 days I woke up a little too early, so I was a little tired but nothing major. Last night I got a great night’s sleep. That’s kind of how it goes for me — I’m not really a bad sleeper, but just a couple of days of bad sleep really effects me!

Mm, cheesecake – your mom does birthday cake right!
I’ve somehow started waking up earlier since the time change – I mean, all 2 days of it, but I hope the trend doesn’t stick.

I’m would personally take cake over cheesecake but it wasn’t my birthday. 🙂
I woke up early the first couple of days, but last night I got a great night’s sleep. Needed that!
I tend to wake up earlier when we’re off DST — which is kind of weird, since it’s dark, but maybe it’s just the overall lack of sunshine.

Very fancy looking cake! Happy birthday to both of your parents! My parents birthdays are in the same week so I like to take them out for dinner as a “joint” present 🙂 So far the time change hasn’t bothered me – I flop into bed exhausted every night, no matter what!

Unfortunately my parents are 2 weeks apart so sometimes it’s 2 celebrations. Sometimes we do combine them. But at their age, you always have to wonder if there will be another birthday.
