I thought we’d be going to my parents today, but we’re going to try for tomorrow since my nephew (who lives in India — yes, the country) will be visiting. So I didn’t need to get that long run in on Friday, but then I didn’t have to deal with the crazy wind today.
I considered just showing up & doing a few miles with my friends, which would have been the first time I’ve run 4 x week in a long time, but I wasn’t feeling it and there was a lot to do today. Going to my parents sucks up an entire day and requires some prep the day before (get stuff ready for the dogs, lay out clothes to run in and clothes to actually wear the rest of the day — among other stuff).
Joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and yup, still maintaining my base.
And linking up with Jenn @ Runswithpugs, Brandi @ Funnerrunner, Anna Louise @ Graciouswarriorprincess, Briana @ Matsmilesmedals, Meghan @ Meghanonthemove, and Elizabeth @ Trainwithbainfor RIOTS(running is our therapy)

Running Update

Monday
I expected to wake up to rain and be on the treadmill — only I didn’t (wake up to rain, that is). I had what looked like a few hours rain free (although the radar often lies). I quickly ate some breakfast, got dressed, foam rolled, warmed up a little and got myself out there. I still wore screw shoes, there are still icy bits out there — not much, but it doesn’t take much. I did hit one slushy patch I slipped on slightly, but all in all a decent run.

Wednesday
A very busy day, so I managed to get out the door fairly early (not quite as early as Monday). We’ve had a thaw the last few days, so a lot of the snow has melted. I took advantage of the clearing to do some hill repeats — definitely don’t want to do those on iffy roads!

Friday
The day was gray and cold, but not too bad, and only a little bit of icy patches here and there. I was able to get most of my run done in the park, and it was a really strong run, with most miles within seconds of each other (except that rogue mile 2). No idea why, but it made me happy.

Favorites of the week
This time I tried an edamame + mung bean pasta. Mr. Judy didn’t even comment on it — he’s usually rightly suspicious when I serve pasta. This pasta has 24 gm of protein in a serving! It goes in the pot a greenish color, but most of that fades during cooking. I cooked it a bit longer than the box suggested, which seemed to work.
I am working on starting that Youtube channel. In fact, I hope to have it done in time for Tuesday’s post! Let’s just say there’s been a lot of hair pulling going on because this girl knows nothing about editing video. Even after trying to edit a few.
Do you ever try alternative pasta? Have a favorite one?
Any exciting races lately?
Is your holiday shopping done or are you just getting started?
My holiday shopping has been dismal. The kids want cash (not even gift cards), and I didn’t have a lot of gifts to buy for others. I got the bulk of my baking done Friday evening, so that was a huge accomplishment. We didn’t get nearly as much snow as you, but it’s all gone (at the moment). This year has been so crazy with weather!

Well, at least cash makes it easier, right? Our snow is also all gone. But some more on the way, probably.

Trying some new techie-thing always scares me. I wouldn’t even know where to start with editing a video for YouTube. But it’s amazing what one can accomplish once the fear is out of the way. Well done for tackling a new venture, I am looking forward to seeing the result! 😊

Well, the good thing about it is that there are all these videos on Youtube on how to use the video editor I downloaded. 🙂

My husband is trying to reverse his progress towards diabetes and has been having experimental pastas – neither of us could bear the last one though – i think it was made of lentils or something (which I normally like). A good solid week and glad the snow and ice have gone for at least a while!

That’s great that your husband will try stuff like that. Mine will eat it but I try not to let him know ahead of time what’s in it. 🙂

Bought everything on Amazon. Easy peasy. Just hope everything arrives on time.

Good luck! Sounds like you did it early enough that it should. I know a lot of people who have been having problems with it lately.

Finger crossed since we are celebrating next Sat.

That pasta seems cool and I love that it has so much protein per serving – I’ll have to look for it the next time I go shopping!
That wind is really fierce today – still good thing you did your run on Friday! I hope that your visit with you parents and nephew is great tomorrow.

I am glad I did my run on Friday. Unfortunately there was a snafu with my nephew’s visit (turned out he came today, which is when we had originally planned to go see my parents — only I just found out this afternoon). So we didn’t see him & now don’t plan to go to my parents tomorrow. Maybe next weekend . . .

I served WW pasta once…once. My hubs was not happy. No surprise there!
Finishing up my holiday shopping as we speak. Now I have to wrap and bake. I’d love to just sit back and enjoy the holidays while someone else does all that. I need a wife!

My WW leader often jokes about needing a wife.
We generally don’t exchange gifts for Hannukah (not really an important holiday), and when we did, I used a gift bag. Every single night, LOL!
Oh, we did WW pasta for years. Now GF most of the time. I don’t actually eat a whole lot of pasta anymore. I dunno, it sure feels like I’m active enough, but I can eat less & less to maintain my weight all the time. It’s frustrating.

I am officially done with shopping as of today. I have a bunch of gifts to drop off this week. I have tried a few of the plant based pastas but was not a fan. I have not tried the one you have there yet. I really want to like them but the consistency is often weird
LikeLiked by 1 person
My husband didn’t actually say anything about the consistency, probably because he was too preoccupied with the mint I used in the sauce (yes, it was a bit strange but not that bad).
I like Banza, but it can give me some gas (and most of the time I’m not really a gassy person).

I am still waiting for some presents to arrive, but spent a lot of the weekend wrapping! Can’t wait for the holidays!

I have made zoodles before, but we take our pasta very seriously lol.
We did a lot of shopping online but I still have to get a few things. I’ll deal with it this week. My mom is going to come help me wrap and get organized because I’m still rendered mostly useless over here.
While I love the snow, be careful with all that ice!

Almost all our snow is gone, but there’s more on the way tonight into tomorrow.
Just remember stressing does your body no good at all. Try to send it all the love you can — I know it’s hard, but it’s healing!

I had caulifloodles recently and they were amazing. The other alternative I kind of like is quinoa pasta, but somehow it has higher carbs than regular. I think my shopping is pretty much done, except for Thing 2’s flute teacher. I have no clue what to get her.

I haven’t tried caulifloodles (but just about everything else cauliflower, including some cauliflower pizza we’re having tonight).
That is weird about the quinoa noodles, but I guess it does have carbs.
I don’t think we even gave my flute teacher any presents back in the day. A tip, maybe. But then back then presents for everyone wasn’t as much as a thing — which is a good thing, I think, I think as a society we’ve gone way overboard on it.

I have one more thing I’ve picked out I have to buy and at least two gifts to buy that I still have to figure out.
I’d rather be baking!

Not exchanging gifts can be a beautiful thing, what can I say? Mmmm, baking . . . bacon . . .

The pasta looks and sounds yummy, although I’ve never actually tried an alternative pasta. Unless you count the spriralized stuff – then I’ve done sweet potato and zucchini.
We had a pretty warm week here too. Several days of rain, which is forecast again tomorrow. So far this winter, it’s been relatively easy to run outside (Knock on wood!)

We had some rain last week, some snow showers where nothing stuck, but it’s back to snow tomorrow, probably. Much smaller storm.

That’s good news that most of the snow was gone and that you had such a strong run Friday! I’ve never heard about that type of pasta but that’s a good amount of protein! I’ll have to keep an eye out for it at the store.

Well, the snow’s coming back, probably, but not quite so much. Maybe we’ll get lucky & it’ll be like a few years ago where we got a bunch of really big snowstorms, but then it warmed up & the snow melted. Happened like 6 times!

I only buy presents for my students. I ordered books for them and a calendar magnet with the class photo. I just need to wrap them up and have ready by tomorrow or Friday. I’ve tried quinoa pasta which is good but sometimes i just prefer regular pasta. 🙂

That sounds like a whole lot of wrapping! I know I’d just go out & buy gift bags. Gift bags & gift cards. 🙂
You really do sound like you’re a fantastic teacher, Zenaida!

Awww, thanks Judy!! 🎁❤️ I do my best and many times do wonder if I am a good teacher. I care a lot about my students and I know many of the challenges I face are out of their control. They’re kids and I want them to enjoy being a kid.

OK, mung bean just sounds gross from its name.
Love your hot pink shoes
We had ice this morning – that was an unpleasant surprise, but I stayed upright

Upright is good. Not always easy with ice. I ran on the treadmill today, neighborhood still slushy mess most of the day, but should be good after the frigid air passes.
I actually make rice & beans with mung beans all the time. Mung beans are a fairly digestible bean, actually. But you don’t cook anyway. 😊

V true, I don’t cook with mung beans or anything. Mom asked if I f elt anything missing from condo. LOL. There was a salad bowl, that’s all I cooked
