No big shock, I was very tired the beginning of the week. Last week was intense. Heck, the last half year (and more) was intense. I just wanted to come home & sleep for a million years.
Of course life goes on, and even though I have to admit I wasn’t super motivated this week, I got out there for a few runs. The weather wasn’t horrible, and I even got my runs done outside.
It was a mostly gloomy week though. This morning I woke up to sunshine and a dusting of snow, but by the time I got out midday, that was all gone. It’s why I struggle so much with running outside in Winter.

Running Update

Tuesday
Gloomy, raw day. Went out for an easy run and decided on hill repeats instead — gotta get them in when the roads are clear, although it looks like they’ll stay clear for a while (fingers crossed).

Friday
Cloudy, raw, totally uninviting. I took my sweet time getting ready in the morning, but I got out there — and the last 2 miles were the fastest. I think I was just ready to be done! Plus I try to start out “slow” and finish strong. Sometimes, anyway.

Sunday
With midweek weather looking frightful, I have a feeling I’ll be running tomorrow. Maybe a time trial (if I have time, LOL!). So I didn’t want to run hard today. Since I’m only running 3 x week, I wanted to put in strides. I run (downhill) from my mailbox to the fence above. Much rather do this than just 3 miles easy!

Favorites of the week
Home again, that was the highlight of my week! Not having to drive my mom home in the dark on those curvy country roads was also very nice. Otherwise, it really was an an unremarkable week.
Both Mr. Judy and I tried the Bobo’s Toaster Pastry pictured above this week (I found it at Whole Foods). We both wondered where the Chocolate Peanut Butter filling was, but we both agreed we’d eat it again.
I used the toaster pastry as dessert with my lunch after my long run this week. It has a surprising 9 gm of protein in it (it partially uses chickpea flour, although you’d never notice that (Mr. Judy didn’t).
Do you have a full race schedule for 2020? Mine has one race. Kinda like 2019.
Are you struggling getting out the door during Winter? Tuesday I’ll be talking about why you should keep running even when you don’t feel like it.
Any interesting finds at the grocery store recently?

I have to agree, the sky on your photo does look gloomy! Great that you still managed to get out there and run.
I don’t have a race schedule for 2020 but just sign up for races as I go along. I like to have a bit of wiggle room and to go with my level of fitness.
I fortunately managed to avoid winter this year – but yes, I HATE cold weather! All the more I admire you for braving the cold! 😊

That gloominess is just normal for here in Winter. I’ve always hated it.
The cold is easier to brave when there’s sunshine — you have to get out early to catch it, and I usually wait until it warms up.

I agree that this week was pretty blah in terms of weather. The sun didn’t really make an appearance here either, but tomorrow is supposed to be 60 degrees, lol
That toaster pastry looks interesting – I too was wondering about the filling, lol. But if you say you would try it again, I will give it a try! 🙂

More importantly, Mr. Judy said he’d eat the toaster pastry again. 😉 I forgot to mention it did have more sugar than I usually eat, and that’s why I used it after my long run (would probably be good before one, too).

We have sunshine today after 11 days without it. It’s actually a record for our area. I have been doing ok with it. No SADD this year, which is a first for me. Maybe it’s because it’s so warm in comparison with the polar vortexes of years past? It’s nice to get outside and not freeze. Yes, it’s cold. But I’ll take this over sub-zero. I hope you find your motivation!

We had sun this morning. Maybe a couple of hours. Unfortunately I was not out there then. Oh well. SAD is not just about temps for me, it’s really about the lack of sunshine & I’m still battling it. But at least I’m getting out there (and I walk the dogs almost everyday too).

It seems to be dark when I run whether it’s morning or evening. Never see the sun. Happy that this winter has been so mild. My winter running clothes have barely been worn.
I usually meet someone for my long runs so I’m out early. I hate to run alone. Grateful to our Sole Sisters.
6 halfs planned so far. Seems crazy with a painful foot. But so is life.

I only did one race last year that I recall and am not signed up for anything yet this year. I’m looking at some 5-10k races.

Well, I will do shorter races. I usually sign up fairly last minute. Life is more settled — but still not settled, so I don’t want to waste $$ on races I won’t be here for — even if it means ultimately I spend more $$ for the race! It’s a catch-22.

It was pretty grey here as well but I always feel better to get out and get some fresh air. I did subscribe to your youtube channel and I need to go catch up and watch the videos. Thanks for linking up today have a great week ahead

I do get out most days with the dogs. I actually stick my head out the door every morning when I open it up for the dogs (so they can go in & out via the pet door), and I take a few breaths of fresh air to start out my day — no matter how cold it is.
I used to go outside with them in the morning, and that I’ve let go, LOL!

I already have a slew of upcoming races for Feb (one), March (a few), April (one so far) …and beyond. I’m a sucker for early bird pricing 🙂 My latest grocery store find…Tostitos black bean/garlic multi-grain chips. I dip them in rep-pepper hummus, and I can’t be responsible for how much (or little) remains of either.

Those chips sound yummy! I bought the chocolate hummus at Trader Joes recently, of course, right?
I don’t do early bird because life is still kinda unsettled, so I prefer knowing I at least have a good chance of running the race. 😉
I will of course be doing shorter races along the way.

We had a very gloomy January in Minneapolis! Just finally got some sun this week and everyone went nuts 🙂
Glad you got out for a few runs!

There was some sun last week, but it never stayed out long. Super depressing. 😦

It was gorgeous here today for the first time in weeks. I was hoping we’d melt all of our snow. Not even close. I guess there’s plenty of winter left!

Our snow is actually mostly gone. It was gorgeous yesterday morning for like an hour. Sigh.

My 2020 calendar was booked through Q1, but nothing after and now I’m not sure. I’m sure I’ll do a couple of local favorites, but not sure as I might do a training group and will have to pick between their runs and races most weeks.
Glad you were able to get some rest. We haven’t had anywhere near the snow you have, but I’m over it.

We really haven’t had that much snow. The next couple of weeks look like they could be annoying . . .
I’m sure I’ll be doing shorter races when I’m inspired to. In fact, one goal is to try out at least one new-to-me local race (shorter than a half). For obvious reasons I haven’t started to look to see which one it could be.
And no, had no desire to join Darlene Saturday for that one — I’ve never done it, but I also never wanted to do it either, not to mention had a lot of catching up to do at home.

Depending on schedules we could maybe do a new to both of us local to you race. My brother wanted me to do the April half that Darlene likes, but I won’t be around.
While we ran this weekend a friend and I were shirt watching and talking baout whether we’d done those. the NYCRuns races are small so it’s easier to do it

I’m talking about shorter races, not halves. Just sayin’. There was a half I wanted to do in April, but it looks like that might be the same date as my Dad’s burial (which is still not chosen). I need them to decide one way or another.
Really have no idea what race I’ll try. Most years I do end up doing a smaller race, I did a few last year that I hadn’t thought of at the beginning of the year.
It would definitely be sweet to meet up for more than 2 seconds. 🙂

With notice I can come up for shorter. I’m bummed there aren’t any when I’m up for a conference, but that would have just been too easy

My race calendar is jam-packed this year as I’ve set a goal of doing 20 races in 2020. But haven’t managed to find all races yet so hopefully a few more are advertised soon as I can start solidifying the whole plan!

The gloomy skies and lack of light in Winter definitely make it harder to get out for a run! Great job getting out there in spite of the weather.

Thanks, Chaitali. Today they taunted us with warmer temps, but it turned out to be gray and drizzling. Luckily I could wait that out & run this afternoon (still gray, but maybe it’ll stay dry).

It’s been pretty gloomy here, too. Today is the first day of sun in quite a while. It does make a difference in my mood for sure.
Nothing solid on my race calendar right now. I still have a ways to go.

It is another gloomy day here today. I think the rest of the week is not going to be nice, but can’t really expect much different in Feb, so far not too bad.
When you do race again — and you WILL — it will feel wonderful!

The gloomy skies and limited daylight are some of the biggest things I don’t like about winter. It does make it hard to get out the door.
Only 3 half marathons for me for the year, but lately my schedule’s been on the light side.

“Only 3 halfs”, LOL! the most I’ve ever done was 4 in one year.
My schedule has definitely been light, but that’s what I needed!

we had some pretty grey and gloomy days last week too. and because our sky is “low”, the clouds really hang so low to the ground all day… i’m on the 7th floor of my building and had no visibility 3 of the 4 days I was at the office last week. I ended up doing my first training run on the treadmill. And if you know me at all, you know I don’t really do treadmill runs!
I’m signed up for 2 races. One in April (10.5KM) and the Chicago marathon. I hope to add to it, but none of my races will be for anything than for “fun” or to just give myself a boost that I can do this.

We had a few gloomy days and I was fed up with it. This weekend is when we finally got some sun. I have a few races in my calendar for this year. I do struggle to run during the Winter. What is helping now is that I am running inside, but it still means I have to to outside for a little bit.
