What’s Your Strong?: 2/24-3/1 WRD

With Mr. Judy gone, it was a quiet week. Except for Lola’s stomach issues. There wasn’t a lot of sleep much of the time he was gone.

Running Update

Poor Forsythia are confused by the warm weather (well, it’s gone now!)

Tuesday
So much for Spring. It wasn’t really a bad day weather day, just gloomy. I’m so over gloomy. After procrastinating (on other stuff that needed to get done) I finally got myself out the door during lunch, which made for a weird lunch very late. Pretty consistent 4 miles even with 1 mile of running up and down a short, but steep hill.

Searched for signs of Spring, looks like some of our neighbor’s Forsythias are beginning to bloom. Not ours, we don’t get as much sun on my side of the street. Definitely way too early!

Notice the flag flying high. Yup, a lot of wind. Somehow I survived.

Thursday
I woke up trying to convince myself I could handle the cold and wind later in the day, that it would make me stronger. Then it started to snow . . . not the fluffy, pretty kind, but the little sleety balls kind. I had new shoes to try out though . . . and somehow I managed to run outside.

It wasn’t too bad. Except my attempt to create a custom workout on my Garmin Vivoactive 3 was an epic fail — it was supposed to be 400s, and but apparently I put in .05 miles for the warmup & cooldown — not the half mile I’d intended. Basically I ran hard for a while and walked a bit then ran hard, and it was what it was (because my watch said I was done with the workout after one mile!).

Don’t let the pretty blue sky fool you. That wind was fierce!

Sunday
This was a nice run when the wind was calm. Cold, but not bad. When the wind blew, though, which it did fairly regularly, it was pretty brutal. I did not run on the path above, but it was nice to see it was pretty clear. I thought about calling it quits early, but the truth was I knew I could do 9 miles, so I did. I definitely found my strong on this run!

The crepe is folded sort of like an ice cream cone — they’re yummy! Dessert crepes, too.

Favorites of the week
I did get together with a friend for lunch this week. We see each other at our WW meeting once a week — well, except during all the months my Dad was failing, I missed many meetings — but we like to get together for lunch once in a while.

I introduced her to the Japanese crepe place, which I really do enjoy — and she did too.

I’m going to suggest the Lioness. New colors are available and it’s so comfortable AND has 3 pockets (1 zippered big enough for your keys).

Last day to snag awesome deals at Skirt Sports here. Use code LEAP50 for 50% off almost everything here. Even sale and outlet!

Are you worried about Coronavirus?

What did you do for fun this week?

Do you find yourself thinking you have to get into a deeper pose because everyone else is?

  1. I can never seem to get those custom workouts to go right on my Garmin either. All of your daily yoga has me craving yoga, I have kind of fallen off of it again. I also picked up a GGU skirt on the sale. It’s been a while so fingers crossed I like it. Yum crepes 🙂 Thanks for linking up today and have a good one

    1. This was definitely user error on my part. I’ve corrected, so we’ll see if I get to run it again this week. 🙂

The crepes were definitely yummy. 🙂 I didn’t take a photo of the mini dessert crepe . . .

  2. Fun???

Not much a very busy work week.

A lot of early mornings. 7 am Bar exam starts and the day I didn’t work there was 4:00 am to bring the hubby to airport.

I ran with friends Mon Thurs and Sat. That is always fun. Also the Olympic trials. Can only watch them once every 4 years.

Not worried about the corona virus. In fact I was just at JFK and didn’t even think about it.

    1. At least you didn’t have to go and stand in front of a door for 15 minutes multiple times a night (while it’s freezing cold). Nope, not a very fun week here either.

Mr. Judy was in northern CA & Seattle. So yes, I did think about corona virus. So far, so good, knock on wood.

  3. I’m not worried about the coronavirus myself, however my husband’s work is, and when we get back from our upcoming holiday he is going to have to work from home for 14 days because he’s left the country!

    1. My husband visited his mom outside of Seattle. Then spent almost a week at a conference in northern CA — they actually canceled a lot of the stuff that goes on after hours. Plus his SIL is currently traveling in Asia. So yup, been on my mind!

  4. I’m so over gloomy too. I am ready for some nice warm spring sunshine. Today is sunny and my hubby and I did our long run but it was COLD and windy. Ugh!

Nice 9-miler. Are you getting ready for Mt. Hood already?

Wow! That Japanese crepe looks delicious. So much fun to meet a friend for lunch.

    1. No, I’m still prepping for April. Still not sure I’ll actually do it, but if I don’t, it will just make me stronger for Mt. Hood. Hopefully we’ll have a better idea of where we stand in a week or two (about April).

  5. I am on the front lines so to speak with my job. I never know what I’m walking into–right now it’s a lot of flu and colds, so I do wash my hands, a lot. I try not to touch my face. I’ve managed to dodge the flu thus far–I hope my strategy works for the Coronavirus! Yes, I’m a little nervous because I am immunosuppressed from my RA medication.

    1. My nerves mainly come from my husband being in northern CA this week. But so far, knock on wood, so good. I don’t know how long the incubation period is.

I’m not sure I’d survive seeing flu patients all day — especially kids!

  6. Probably the funnest thing this week was our weekly Sunday dinner with the kids. It’s a new thing we started doing in 2020 (which is why I’m not super prompt in reading/commenting until after everyone has gone home). It’s nice to have a relaxing few hours with the grown kids, and talk or play board games. It’s been several years since everyone has been available (other than for Thanksgiving or Christmas/Easter). Hope your weather shapes up!

  7. Sounds like the wind has been brutal everywhere this week!

I don’t have any immediate worry about the coronavirus (no cases near here), but I am a bit worried that it will turn into a pandemic due to human error/willful stupidity. From what I’ve seen, public health experts are less than optimistic about how it’s being handled so far.

  8. Our most fun thing for us this week was helping our son unpack at their new place nearby. I’ll share the details on Friday’s coffee linkup, but the short of it is that our son and d-i-l are moving from NJ to nearby in VA. We are thrilled!

I can certainly understand why you’ve got concerns about the Coronavirus. We live so close to Dulles International Airport and have so many neighbors who travel internationally for work/pleasure that it’s definitely on my radar.

    1. Sounds like a lot of people have their children coming back nearby. We lived so many years far away from our parents (well, still far away from my MIL) — I’m sure they were not happy.

  9. Right now my only fear is that overreacting will lead to having cancel my May trip to Europe I spent hours Monday and Tuesday booking (before there was a travel warning for Italy) … Right now I am in the camp of “Stay Calm and Wash Your Hands.” If the scare hit a bit earlier, we might have had fewer flu victims with people being more careful.

  10. HAHA, the Garmin fail! I did something similar two weeks ago: I managed to sandwich my cool-down between the warm-up and intervals. So I had to improvise when I was outside. So stupid!
I am not worried about the Coronavirus at all. Currently I am just washing my hands more.

  11. oh the garmin programming failures… I know them all too well. so annoying! we’ve also had the wind like crazy. I’m tired of it. Last week was wind and rain. I barely even rode my bike! Glad you were able to find your strong on your long run – that’s a great feeling!

Not really worried about the corona virus, but it has entered the Netherlands now. So just being vigilant and washing my hands more after I’ve been out and about. Hand sanitiser is sold out everywhere. I’m not a germaphobe at all, but it would have been nice to have a small bottle… my parents just embarked on another cruise – I AM slightly worried about them, especially dad, who’s just recovering from radiation therapy.

    1. I’ve had my Garmin over 6 months, but I never tried to program a workout before. I think it’s pretty cool that you can (and that was totally my fault that it was screwed up).

I’m not a germaphobe either. It’s probably mostly hype from news. I hope your parents remain healthy & can enjoy their cruise!

  12. Great job getting those runs done in spite of the weather! The wind can be tough to deal with. As far as the coronavirus, I’m trying not to stress about it. I’m just washing my hands a lot and trying to avoid touching my face. I’m not always successful at that but trying my best anyway.

  13. The wind was really crazy this week here as well – Great job getting in your runs in those weather conditions!

That crepe looks pretty delicious! I wish we had a place like that here. I love when “regular” foods can seem new just by how they are presented on the plate.

  14. Those crepes look yummy! I have never tried to do a custom workout, although now I want to.

i waver on the coronavirus. My anxiety means I worry about all kinds of crazy things, but my husband is being semi-bizarre about it, and usually he’s the one who says I’m being unreasonable.

    1. That was my first attempt at a custom workout. I never even really thought about it before. I corrected it, but didn’t feel like doing speed work today — I’m sure it’s ok now.

Mr. Judy has been fairly blase about coronoavirus, and he’s the one that was just in WA & northern CA. He doesn’t tend to get worked up over that sort of things (plenty of other things, yes).

  15. I am guilty as charged with Garmin workout programming fails as well so don’t feel bad. It is frustrating though. I just saw a recipe for coconut flour crepes I’m going to try.
I’m not in panic mode about coronavirus, but we do need to make a decision about Thing 1’s study abroad this summer.

    1. Oh no, that’s got to be a really hard decision to make. I just heard that airlines are canceling trips to Italy. My sister had a trip planned in early May, it would have been her first trip ever to Europe. I hope things clear up (or people come to their senses and realize it’s really just a virus!) for her.

Not to mention my mom actually has plans to go visit my brother in CA next month . . .

  16. I’ve had a few Garmin workout fails like that for sure! But now, I feel like I’m the queen of programming mine. It’s taken my treadmill training to a new level to because I don’t have to do math anymore to figure out when to run fast or slow for intervals and stuff like that. It’s a win!!

  17. I am sort of worried about it. So far I haven’t heard of anything happening in our district or anywhere close by. I love programming my workouts in my Garmin. It took me a few times to finally get it right and to work correctly.

    1. I can imagine how Coronavirus could really effect you.

I don’t even remember if I could program my original Vivoactive — probably, but I never even thought about it — I’m really excited to try it out now that I’ve fixed the problem!
