No Place like Home: 6/20 – 26 WRD

After about 3 days at my moms, not gonna lie: I was dragging this week. Everyone needs a little downtime sometimes. So far this Summer has been much less wet than last Summer (I know, it’s early days!) and I’ve really enjoyed my reading outside in the backyard — and being able to film in the backyard a lot, too.

We can often be found like this. Enjoying a good book outside. Grateful for many dry days — and shade!; both allow me to enjoy the backyard.

Running Update

Picked up a new running book in the neighborhood after a run

Wednesday Intention: run easy
This probably would have been the best day of the week to run long, but after being at my moms two weeks in a row dealing with aide changes & the usual other stuff I’m running around doing while I’m there, I was beat. I wanted to get in three runs this week, so basically no wiggle room. I ran down the steep hilly road outside my neighborhood for the first time in a long time — which of course means I have to run uphill on the way back. Happy to report that everything felt okay.

This little guy stayed put even as a biker almost ran him over

Friday Intention: run long, body scan each mile
Humidity hadn’t yet moved in, so it was still somewhat cool (although 71F by the time I was finished). I picked a body part to try to relax each mile. My pace was slow, but the HR was still a bit higher than usual.

Thought I had enough water with me (20 oz) but by the end of the run I was having to be conservative. Thankful I was able to refill at the water fountain at this park (and that I didn’t choose the park that doesn’t have a water fountain).

Freedom. Never take it for granted.

Sunday Intention: run loose
Lately I am concentrating on trying to run relaxed. To really tune into my body. It was hot (but still not too humid) and this is the earliest I’ve gotten out to run this year. Yes, the run was slow; no, it didn’t really feel easy towards the end. But my body? It did feel very good after I was finished (by which point the temp was 73F — before 8 am).

Some flowers at mom’s

Favorites of the week
It was a quiet week (except the time spent at my mom, that was busy). If you missed my Innisfree photos from last week, you can see them on FB (follow me here).

Just scroll down past the memories of furkid angels. I’m happy to be home, and hope future visits to my mom can just be day visits, at least for a while.

ICYMI: Can Yoga help you lose weight? My short answer is yes — and no; I elaborate in this short vlog here, and of course I need to give you a Yoga flow that may help here. This flow will definitely work your core, tone your whole body, and give your Adrenals a little love, too. Bandit makes cameos.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday I’m wrapping up June and Friday I’m grabbing that hot chocolate as always.

  1. Unfortunately I picked the hottest day to run long. Actually it was a race.

Otherwise I’m trying to join groups for my runs. Luckily now there is one for Monday Wednesday and Thursday. That will end when the daylight ends.

I wish innisfree was open on Mondays. It looked pretty.

  2. I bet being at your mom’s with the aide changes is physically and mentally exhausting. Glad you’re home now.

I wish I could read on our deck — the mosquitoes always find me!

  3. Yeah, my water bottle didn’t really cut it by the end of my long run! I’m either going to eeed a place to refill it, or switch to the double hydration vest.
Sounds like you had a good week! I love the backyard picture- that’s exactly what summer should be like!

    1. It’s funny, I actually really like my hydration vest, but it tends to rough up my running clothes a bit & I don’t like that. So I try to avoid using it — even though it means I can’t carry as much water.

  4. My water bottle rolled off the bluff today when I stopped to take a picture! Gah! I found a little path and made my way down to snag it. It was a little treacherous, tho. Geez.

Sitting on my deck as we speak! We’re having a pretty decent day!

I guess men have more freedoms now than women. What a cluster.

    1. I probably would have let the water bottle go!

It’s very hot here today, low 90s, but grateful that my backyard is very shady. The deck is on the second floor, though, and that’s way too warm on a day like today! Although if I said “streak” to my husband he’d be out there grilling, LOL! A cold front is supposed to come through.

  5. Glad you’re able to rest and regroup a little after the visit to your mom’s. I’m sure that’s exhausting. We’ve actually been on the dry side this summer as well, and as a result, knock wood, the mosquitos haven’t been bad.

  6. Nothing wrong with taking a drop back week. Sounds like a nice, relaxing week. All the yoga though, sounds like you still put in the work. I love yoga and wish I had more time to squeeze it in.

    1. I am a Yoga teacher (without an actual weekly class right now) — so I practice first thing in the morning. Varies on time, I don’t really track it, and it’s actually a combination of asana, meditation, foam rolling, etc.

I don’t have a 9-5 job, though. So that definitely helps.

  7. I bet it feels really good to put your feet up, read, and enjoy your backyard! Although we’ve had some hot (and quite humid) days, it has been cooling off nicely in the evenings. I love just sitting on my deck, and chilling for 30 minutes or so.

  8. I am glad that you were able to take some downtime this week.

We have a Little Free Library a few blocks from my house. I think it’s such a cool concept and I’m glad that it gets a lot of use.

    1. This is the first one in our neighborhood! there are a couple others not too far away in parks. I just took a load of books to one of them. I’ve been meaning to forever, but always kept forgetting about it!

  9. Good to hear that you were able to enjoy a little downtime. I know it’s been stressful dealing with your mom’s aide situation and all.

I love that you were able to take advantage of the free library in your neighborhood. We only have one in my town (that I’ve seen) but it hasn’t had anything that’s looked interesting. I’m all for time on the deck with a book!

  10. Outside reading time is always the best!
Little Free Libraries are so good. We have three within my daily meander and inevitably the best books are when I don’t have a tote/can’t take one wiht me

    1. Oh no on no tote! Unfortunately we can’t go by the free library in our neighborhood when we walk Bandit because that weirdo guy who hates Bandit lives across the street. I try to end my neighborhood runs there. 😊 Makes it harder to donate, though!
