I tried it: Bob and Brad’s Q2 Mini Massage Gun

When the team at Bob and Brad (two physical therapists) reached out to me to try their mini massage gun, I jumped at the chance. Have I long wanted a massage gun? Yes! Do I own what seems like every other myofascial relief tool? Yes! Well, not really; there are tons!

It’s way smaller than my foot!

So why no massage gun? It seems everyone already had one! With all the tools I already own — and use — I couldn’t really justify it.

Achilles relief. Just be careful not to touch your ankle bones — I’ve never even come close to them while doing this. Also good for working on your spine (again, never apply directly to bones).

Thanks to Bob and Brad, I now own my very own mini massage gun and have been using it a bit over a month — when my Achilles tendon started acting up last month (just a bit), this massage gun totally took the ache away — even after some steep downhill runs.

A protective carrying case

What’s in the box?
The Q2 comes in its own semi-hard carrying case, and includes:

  • The massage gun
  • The attachments
  • A small, slim instruction manual to get you started
  • Charging Cord

Since receiving the Q2 at the end of May, I have yet to recharge it. I use it several times a week, and as needed if something particular is bothering me.

Everything you need to warm up, recover, & work out the knots

There are five massage heads included (I’ve tried out four):

  1. Ball Head: good for the larger muscles like glutes, hamstrings, & quads
  2. Air Cushion: for more sensitive body parts (I haven’t tried this one)
  3. Bullet Head: for smaller muscles & trigger points (good for trigger points in the calf!)
  4. Flat Head: all body parts
  5. U Head: spine, neck, shoulders — although this is what I’ve been using on my Achilles

There’s a chart in the manual detailing levels, duration, and which head to use for warm up, recovery, pain management, etc.

Just push the desired head in & pull the one already out. Easy peasy.

How do you operate it?
The Q2 is very simple to operate. simply press the power button for 3 seconds and it’s on at the lowest level. Continue pressing the power button to increase the massage frequency. You can pause it by also holding the power button for around 3 seconds — although I find it usually shuts the power off. No biggie, though. You only need to pause it while changing heads. The Q2 will automatically shut itself off when it hasn’t been used for 20 seconds — in other words, it shuts itself off automatically.

Pros

  • Small, easy to take with you
  • Light weight
  • Comes with a protective carrying case
  • Quiet
  • Long battery life
  • Easy to use
  • Multiple heads
  • Small manual that is very helpful
  • Up to five levels of massage strength
  • Reasonably priced

Cons

  • I haven’t really found any cons, except that maybe it would have been nice to have a smaller travel bag, too. As much as I’d be tempted to take this massage gun with me while flying, even that small case would just never fit in my suitcase. I have plenty of bags, though, and I could easily just take my must used heads, the massage gun, and the charger with me.

Final thoughts: would I buy this?
100% yes! This mini massage gun is quiet, powerful, easy to use, keeps a charge for a long period of time, and best of all, reasonably priced. Many years ago I tried a regular massage gun that included heat. I loved it. The problem? The price tag!

  1. I already had bought one before they contacted me. The larger one but it sounds very similar. I don’t need two.

I do like it. But like all other things I used it when I first bought it. And now it is gathering dust. Lol.

I’m glad I have it as an option if anything starts to bother me.

  2. I love my massage gun (Theragun Mini). It goes with me on most of my out-of-town trips and races. This one sounds like a great addition to your recovery arsenal 😉

  3. Thanks for sharing your thoughts for this massage gun! I’ve been curious about these mini guns and it’s great to read an honest review from someone who has tried them out. I appreciate your detailed analysis of the gun’s features, strengths, and weaknesses.

    1. This one is quite small, so definitely easier to take it with you. I’d take it just for regular runs, but then I’d have to worry about someone breaking into my car — hasn’t ever happened to me, but it does happen.
