A Biblical July: Tea/coffee Date August 2023

Ultimate-Coffee-Date-1-300x300

I’m joining  Coco and Deborah and expecting Noah’s Ark to go by any second!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you in June we were all, in this area, complaining about how dry it was. Remember to always be careful about what you ask for, because July turned into the wettest July ever since they started to keep records — or maybe the third wettest (both from the same source, LOL!).

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you, as I commented to Marcia recently, that since I’ve been using Kettlebells, where my heaviest weight is 20 lbs, my clothes started to fit better. I’ve been strength training for decades, but obviously what I’d been doing the last few years was not serving me. However I still have skirts from just 5 years ago that are no longer comfortable. Damn menopause.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d you that speaking of clothes, although I started the seasonal switch out of Winter to Summer clothes quite some time ago, it never got completed. I never finished washing some of the Winter clothes before putting them away in the closet in my spare room. It probably won’t happen until I need those clothes again.

A few recent paintings. Top left are bookmarks; I cut them apart & brought them to my mom. Bottom left is just some loose florals practice. On the right is me & Bandit at Lake Minnewaska from a couple of years ago; it’s actually based partially on a reference in a course & partially on my own photo. Tiny Bandit was not easy to do.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I have taken up watercolor painting. I used to paint acrylics, sometimes oils, before we moved here, but without classes to go to (or the time, or the Pandemic) — I just stopped. Let me tell you it’s astounding the amount of online art tutorials out there!

Right before the cough really started, after a bath. He’s still sleeping through the night but coughing more during the day. Not bad, but more than before. Not sure it it’s weather, wildfire, or just progression. He’s plenty hungry & eating well, knock on wood, so I’ll take that as a good sign.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d end with Bandit. We have gone from begging him to eat like 6 times a day (shades of my mom) to just morning meds + 3 meals. He gets the evening meds in his regular food. He still gets the morning meds in some tuna. I figure he’s old and we have no idea how long he has left (hoping it’s more rather than less, even though he has limited our lifestyle). He deserves some extra treats now and again.

If you live in an area with 4 seasons, are all your Winter clothes clean & put away?

How do you spoil your furkids?

  1. The closet overhaul is a never ending process. I moved much of my winter clothes to my son’s closet. I still have about a third to go through. Will I finish before it’s time to bring back the winter clothes? Probably not! It always feels good to do some closet purging.
Glad the change up to kettlebells is working well for you!

    1. We don’t have a whole lot of closet space. 😦 One of the things I don’t like about this house! I did get some Winter clothes washed and moved, but others are just waiting & mocking me, LOL! Especially things like gloves & hats.

    1. Bandit isn’t stressed by thunderstorms. In fact, it’s booming as I type.

He also doesn’t have the sense not to go into the metal cage outside (aka the kennel), — he has access to it when we’re out, but not the entire backyard — during a thunderstorm.

  2. You know how hot and humid our summers here are and how early they start, so yes, my winter clothes have been put away for quite a few months now.
Your artwork is so good! I’ve never tried watercolor but should.
My dog gets spoiled throughout the day when my daughter is home with little pieces of food she “accidentally” drops. She’s really going to miss her when she goes away to college in a couple of weeks!

    1. I hadn’t tried watercolor before because I’d heard it was hard. And yes, in some ways it is, but other ways easier to set up — I’m enjoying it.

Oh your poor dog, she will absolutely miss your daughter & I’m sure not just because of the treats.

I’ve been using Bandit’s midday meal as a training opportunity. I throw treats (it’s actually food) for him to chase, place it around while he stays & then release him to “find it” (he is terrible at stay, but remember we didn’t get him til he was 8 years old), sit, down, etc. He loves it!

  3. I do not have time to switch out my clothes… I just keep them in different rooms. We have 4 bedrooms and I confess I use all 4 closets for my clothes. (MY hubby gets 1/2 of one).

Glad to hear Bandit feels better.

My hubby spoils my cats. He gives treats and feeds them I’m sure they like him best. LOL.

You can’t fight menopause. However, I didn’t start buying skirts until I was 60 I think.

    1. We don’t have 4 bedrooms. I do not have that much space for clothes. Which is probably a good thing.

There are definitely things you can do to ease menopause, but no, you can’t avoid it. Well, the alternative is not good!

  4. Closet purging… a great big giant ugh to that, LOL. I should purge all the cold weather stuff out (and get rid of some of the older pieces), but I just rotate it from side-to-side, making the current season’s gear most accessible. I recently purged a lot of race shirts that were never worn, so I guess that’s progress…

  5. I am a work in progress on the purging. I think all the winter stuff that is going to be stored has gone. I’ll be bringing it back out soon enough. Bandit is so handsome. Glad to hear he’s doing better for now. Your artwork is gorgeous! I used to work with watercolors and acrylics in college, but haven’t touched them in ages.

    1. I hadn’t painted in about 14 years. I doubt you have time right now but you never know what you’ll do when you’re an empty nester.

Oddly enough Bandit hasn’t coughed at all today. We were having just a bit of wildfire smoke; hoping that’s all it was !

  6. I don’t do much switching out from winter to summer, but I can tell you that I probably wouldn’t fit into clothes from five years ago either (yes, damn you, menopause!)
I love your paintings!! I would love to have bookmarks like that (you should open an Etsy store) but I sadly can’t paint well AT ALL.
Glad Bandit is doing well! Yes, give him lots of treats!!! Why not.

    1. Thank you; that’s very kind. Trust me when I first started painting (we’re talking decades ago now) I was horrible. I still have a long way to go with watercolors. Like most things in life, it just takes practice. I got pretty good in acrylics eventually. But everyone has different talents! Painting & sketching are very meditative for me.

  7. I absolutely love watercolors, and your paintings are beautiful.

Bandit deserves so many extra treats. Spoil the heck out of that baby.

We don’t have seasonal wardrobe changes. Back in NJ, we had a couple of “winter closets” that we would switch in and out of.

  8. Lovely paintings! I am not one to draw or paint anything like that AT ALL. 🙂 I think I am in perimenopause and have noticed weight gain. Since February I have gained 10 lbs. Ugh! I also spoil my cats but yet one of them prefers to cuddle with my mother than with me.

  9. I didn’t know that you paint – I love your art! I’m sure Bandit loved those extra treats. My winter clothes are doing pretty well but I do need to get some space saving bags to keep everything together!

  10. I started strength training again semi-recently but then fell off the wagon when I went off to Montana — hoping to get back into the swing of things soon! I’m bad at doing the winter to summer clothes closet switch too, hehe.

I recently got watercolor pens and am planning on looking up online tutorials too! (Trying to finally start my travel/art journal! 🙂

    1. I assume you were hiking so except for the upper body you were doing strength! I spent way too much time with my watercolor pencils today. Really had other stuff to do but it had been a few days since I’d painted!
