Hello, Fall: 7/31 – 8/6 WRD

At the beginning of the week it was beginning to feel — and actually look — a lot like Fall. Yes, I’ve noticed a few trees already beginning to turn. A very welcome break from the heat, humidity, bad air, and rain of most of July.

Running Update

Maturing hydrangeas

Tuesday intention: go long-ish
A cut back week (just a little) and a taste of Fall! Yahoo! Nothing really stands out about this run, but the pace was just a bit better than I expected. Poor sleep around the full moon. I really do like getting a run in on Monday, but just couldn’t this week.

Looks like my lenses needed to be cleaned (or Bandit pulled). I was trying to capture the angel rays. It was also in my cooldown walk with Bandit. Amazing how he can sniff a mailbox for literally 5 minutes or more but God forbid he should stay still while I’m taking a photo!

Thursday intention: maintain
I got very lucky with this run. After less than ideal sleep Tuesday night (and not great a few nights before that), I got out about an hour later than usual. It felt like Fall, though, so it all worked out.

Foggy morning & one of the neighborhood wildflower gardens

Saturday intention: a little speed
I got out earlier. It was cool due to the cloud cover, but I was still dragging through this run. So I decided it was a good time to insert strides at the end again. A lot of people complained about the humidity this morning, which I didn’t really notice, but maybe that was the problem.

It made me chuckle (IYKYK) & realize I don’t think I’ve seen Kim in a while? Hope everything’s ok.

Favorites of the week
Finally got together to chat with my friend who’d broken her foot. Her right foot. She’s hoping to get the ok to drive very soon. We’d been trying to get together for a long time, but between the weather, and both of us dealing with our elderly mothers . . . it’s just not easy. It was great to catch up.

Getting together with a different friend to walk this morning.

Not really a whole lot of excitement this week! That’s not always a bad thing. Except for finding yet another tick on the bed cover one morning . . . again, grateful it wasn’t attached to us but creepy to think about that crawling around our bed!

ICYMI: That flow state is important for runners! So are a strong low back and hips — click here for the video (live at 8 am). I am releasing a PDF with 5 Yin Yoga Poses to help with stress in Summer to those who want it in my FB group, which you can join here.

Coming up next Week: Just the rundown, folks.

  1. Tuesday topics is where Kim posts each week.

This week was lovely to run weather wise.

It was far less humid yesterday but still humid.

Strange that this summer I’ve seen zero ticks on my outdoor cat. Or anywhere.

  2. I think it’s crazy how the humidity sneaks up on you when the temps are cooler. Last week’s #5at5 was such an ordeal…things felt great until I stopped for my selfie, and the sweat dripping my my eyes nearly had me blind, LOL. I hadn’t realized I was even sweating that much (duh!) because the temps felt so much cooler…

  3. Well no sign of fall here at all unless you count the Halloween candy that is in the grocery store. I dream about fall…
Kim mentioned that she was taking a break from the weekend posts to get off of her computer

  4. Yes,, Kim is still posting her Tuesday Topics, but I was wondering why she hasn’t done a Weekly Rundown lately!
It did not feel like fall this week for me. Instead, it felt like I was transported to the surface of the sun. I have to keep telling myself I’ll be happy in February!

  5. Today is feeling fall-like, but there’s plenty of summer left! There’s no need to rush it out of here, lol. We’ve had really nice weather this summer and I’ve enjoyed it.

  6. I’ve had an autumn feeling here too lately but not with colours in nature or such. There’s something in the air and light somehow. I have mixed emotions about that.
Happy running and I wish you a good week ahead. How is Bandit doing these days? (I haven’t been around blogs a lot lately)

    1. We are heading back into Summer, but thankfully right now not as intense as July. I think Mother Nature got the months mixed up. 🙂

Bandit is doing much better; thanks for asking. I’ve lost a dog ;much younger) to heart failure before, so I know that will change at some point. And probably wry suddenly. But for now he’s eating well again & enjoying walks again.

Unfortunately it has also dashed my hopes of a local vacation. We still might do it, but I’m not sure he’d really enjoy it (we’d take him with us) & it probably wouldn’t be terribly relaxing. We’ll see.

  7. I can’t say it felt like fall here, but we had a break in the weather earlier in the week. The humidity is back now, though.

Love the hydrangeas. We have some, but don’t nurture them enough for them to bloom like that!

  8. Definitely not fall here yet, in fact, it was so hot this weekend that I didn’t make it outside for a run at all (I was going to go Saturday morning but then decided to sleep in a little bit for a change… and then it was too late).

You got some beautiful pictures on your runs, the hydrangeas and the wildflowers… but I had to chuckle when you mentioned that Bandit couldn’t stand still for a second so you could take a picture. Haha.

  9. We haven’t even the slightest inkling of fall here (still in the 90’s during the day) but I’ve heard several other people in the northeast say it’s beginning to cool down there. It looks like next week we’ll see some cooler days, hopefully (still highs in the 80’s, though).

    1. That’s why we’re looking at the mountains. I don’t do well with hear & humidity!

We are warming back up & definitely turned the humidity on again, but we had a really hot July for up here so last week was a gift!

  10. Crying laughing at the Duck Duck Goose. And then just crying for Goose. I’ll never get over that.

Anyway, I am jealous of your fall feelings. I woke up to more excessive heat advisories, so I’ve about given up.

  11. I had an office run this morning and it was cool, but I still am a heavy sweater anyways! Probably why I need to hydrate so much more…Anyways it does feel like fall here, but it has been a cooler summer overall, just one or two hot weeks.

Duck duck goose 🙂 Love it. Great movies.

  12. Even though it was really hot two weeks ago, I can’t complain about our weather this spring/summer. It’s definitely been more moderate than most years.

Ugh on finding a tick in your bed, but thank goodness it wasn’t attached.

Hope you and your friend can get together soon!

  13. I’m not ready for fall! it’s still summer!

I have to say I’m really noticing the flowers a lot more on my walks in the mornings – that’s kind of attributed to you, so thank you! also my own little flowers popping up make me so happy.

I lol’d about Bandit sniffing mailboxes for ages but can’t stay still for a photo 😀
