I didn’t mention the fact that Mr. Judy was off visiting his mom last week, since I don’t like to broadcast that — that was the main reason for a lack of sleep mid week. He came back in the middle of the night before my Wednesday run. The title refers to the fact that I got eaten up by mosquitoes on my long run, but one tried a hitch a ride in my care and I got that one. I am off to visit my mom today, so commenting will be later.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and trying to outrun mosquitoes (an epic fail).

Running Update

Monday intention: some speed on the treadmill
I was so sure I’d be on the treadmill today, with showers in the morning and scattered thunderstorms for the afternoon. Except . . . I couldn’t get my butt in gear. By 11 am, with lunch cooking in the Instant Pot, I walked Bandit. I realized I could get a run in outside, even though it was quite humid, and so I did.

Wednesday intention: a little speed
Not a great night of sleep with Mr. Judy getting home around 1:30 am, but I managed to get out relatively early. It was nice & cloudy & breezy, but warmed up quickly after my run (a bit too warm for Bandit, but we did walk him). All in all pretty decent for not enough sleep.

Friday intention: go long-er
It has been a long time since I’ve had a run that was so sucky. It wasn’t a terrible run, but the BUGS. I stopped to take a photo before I started to run, and got my first mosquito bite then and there (it’s huge now, despite not scratching it). Yes, I’d sprayed on bug spray. Then they continued to attack through the first 2 and last miles. I couldn’t wait to get to my car! I also started later, it was warmer — even though it was actually a lovely morning, it all added up to a slow, not pleasant run.

Favorites of the week
Got together for some walking with a friend and lunch last Sunday (thankfully no mosquitoes that day, and another walk yesterday.
Other than that, not too much going on with Mr. Judy gone. The TV only got turned on for about 90 minutes before bed. I had myself a little Kevin Costner movie marathon while Mr. Judy was away (The BodyGuard, Dances with Wolves, Draft Day, For the Love of the Game — there were a couple of non Kevin Costner movies, too).

ICYMI: This Yin Yoga practice can help strengthen your whole posterior chain (low back, hips, glutes, hamstrings); you know; all the things that should be strong on a runner — click here for the video (live at 8 am). I am releasing a PDF with 5 Yin Yoga Poses to help with stress in Summer to those who want it in my FB group, which you can join here.
Coming up next Week: Just the rundown, folks.
The mosquitoes have been wild this summer. I’ve gotten so many bites. And they bite through my clothes. Ugh.
All that July rain.
But it has made all the waterfalls and flowers more beautiful.

I have a few more from yesterday. Probably because I took the short sleeve top off while sitting outside with my mom (I have a tank on underneath).

The mosquitos haven’t been too bad here, thankfully. But yes, I use spray when I go to the trails! The worst were the no-see-ums that got me in Alabama when I went to see Holly.
The waterfall is beautiful!! So many hidden gems out there.

We have had an epically rainy summer. I don’t normally get bites when I run, but I was trying to get that photo — that was a mistake!

I am noticing the gnats more than mosquitoes right now. They must like the heat 🙂 That waterfall is beautiful nice to have it so close by to enjoy

I hate gnats too! But at least they don’t bite.

Mosquitoes keep me from enjoying my back yard. I get so many bites the moment I step outside.
The waterfall is lovely! Too bad about the new park design and rules!

It used to be that way for me on TX. Usually it’s not too bad here, but we had a huge amount of rain in July & August hasn’t been real dry either.
I actually got some incense to use to keep them away. A FB friend said burning coffee actually works, but I hate the smell of coffee!

Knock wood, I haven’t had any mosquito moments…yet. Maybe I’m out the door too early for them (?) when it’s still relatively cool and somewhat dark (?).

Some people just don’t attract them. But it’s a very bad summer for that here this year. I’m up to about 10 current ones after yesterday’s trip to my mom.

I am definitely a mosquito magnet. Daytime is usually okay but I try to avoid being outside at dusk.
Nice job getting those runs in, and good luck with the visit to your mom!

Sorry about the mozzy. I got bitten after running club run on Tuesday, it must have climbed up inside my sleeve and got me on my shoulder! Hope your visit to your mum goes/has gone OK. Matthew was at his parents’ yesterday.

Hugs to Matthew. I did get a little break because my sister actually went 2 weeks in a row.
After yesterday now I have 3 on my shoulders/back . . .

I can imagine that area is heavy with mosquitoes. But it’s beautiful. And those falls! Amazing!
Mosquitoes can be so nasty. I’m sorry they destroyed your run.

Thanks! I usually don’t get bit running, but I’ve had to skip stretching after a run a few times because of the mosquitoes.

I’m surprised that despite the bouts of rain we’ve had the mosquitoes haven’t been too bad this year. I’m usually a magnet for them.

It is an awesome waterfall! My mom used to actually come to that town for shopping (decades ago); she didn’t know about it.

Yikes. Sorry about the bugs. Mosquitoes haven’t been too bad here overall, but that said, I got a bite on my wrist recently that is SO itchy it drives me nuts. You captured some lovely scenery this week!

I got a few more visiting my mom . . . We have had a ton of rain this summer. The ones from my mom weren’t as bad. But those ones from my trail — OMG.

That waterfalls is beautiful! Why does the newer park cut down on how much you can see, for safety reasons?
Ugh on the mosquitoes! They love me, too, and if my husband and I are out together they bite me and not him.
I hope Mr. Judy had a nice visit with his mom.

Yes, I’m relatively certain the new park doesn’t really allow you to get as close for safety reasons.
Mr. Judy did have a good visit but was ready to come home. I was supposed to go with him originally, but then Bandit’s heart failure happened. Luckily his mother is significantly younger than mine, although she’s not young & has health issues.

I need a good movie marathon.
I hope Mr. Judy had a nice time. And I hope Bandit is doing ok. I always love getting little glimpses of him.

Bandit is doing ok, but he’s been just a touch off lately. Keeping an eye on it. Mr. Judy in general had a good time but he was definitely ready to come home!
