Happy New Year: 9/11 – 17 WRD

We’re not really very observant, but I made chicken, bought a Challah, and made some baked apples to usher in a sweet new year. I have no delusions that 2024 will be a wonderful year, but we did have a potential fun trip dangled out to us for a destination wedding potentially. It’s a long way away and a lot could happen before then.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and oddly not as strong running (but not bad) as Summer gave way to Fall.

Running Update

Wildflower garden on a rainy run

Monday intention: remind the feet to go faster
Still almost 70F when I started, but drizziling to raining and cloudy — which felt nice. It also felt nice to have the best night of sleep in like two weeks. And it definitely felt nice to start 2 hours later than I’ve been starting. A bit slow but despite the good sleep I’m still working on re-energizing after the last couple of weeks.

I felt like this tree was giving me the evil eye

Thursday intention: go long-er
Another nice day. Cool but very sunny and I probably should have started about a half hour earlier like I planned but oh well. Pace relatively consistent. Not really much to say about this one.

Didn’t get birds this time but love these bird feeders on the window. Really wish we had a window we could put some on. Just imagining what the boys (cats) would’ve made of them!

Friday intention: recover
Just two recovery miles on a beautifully cool morning. I was taking a course on Saturday, which was about an hour’s drive away, otherwise I would’ve run on Saturday. Except it got cancelled. No new records this week.

Cooler weather = a perkier Bandit

Favorites of the week
On Thursday we decided to go out to lunch. I always feel like long run day is a good day to eat out (Mr. Judy doesn’t always agree, but he’s not running). Bandit really wanted to go into the hall with a variety of eateries to choose from.

Sushi bowl was enormous & delish (I couldn’t finish it)
A little training while we waited

He had to settle for some treats and training instead. He definitely is appreciating the cooler weather, but he won’t eat breakfast until about 10 am now (maybe something to do with the antibiotics?), which can make life a little awkward. Still coughing a little. Really seems like there’s no change but knowing his heart is relatively okay makes me feel better. Plus sleeping through the night. At least someone is sleeping through the night. We’ll see what happens when we’re finished with the antibiotics.

There was a class on making your own watercolors this weekend. Or so I thought. They offered it a few times this Summer, and although I had mixed feelings doing it on Rosh Hashanah, I was excited about it. I wasn’t excited about the hour+ drive. So I was both bummed and relieved when it was canceled. Just wasn’t meant to be. Maybe next year; that was the last time they offered it this year.

Today hopefully we are having a little adventure which might mean some BBQ for Mr. Judy, who is celebrating his birthday week (ahead of time!) with all his favorite foods. .

ICYMI: Still working that posterior chain (back, hips, glutes, hamstrings) — click here for the video (live at 8 am).

Coming up next Week: Just WRD.

  1. Happy New year to you. I’m not very religious anymore either.

I’ll be in the Finger Lakes for Yom Kippur.

Happy early birthday to Lloyd. We still haven’t gone out to dinner to celebrate our big 70 yet and it was in May. Lol

The cooler mornings have been nice for running as long as you get out early.

  2. Bummer on the class cancelation. Hopefully you used the time for something else fun! I was supposed to run with my trail group this morning but between the pouring rain and this never ending RA flare, I stayed home. 😦

  3. Happy New Year! Sounds like you did the right amount of celebrating 🙂 And I agree with you, going out after a long run is the best! So you don’t have to cook 🙂 The sushi bowl looks amazing!

So glad that Bandit has stabilized a bit and is doing well.

    1. Exactly on the not cooking part. My husband is not a runner. 🙂 Bandit is still coughing a bit, plus his eating times are out of whack which makes things interesting. But in general he’s doing better now that Summer is maybe over.

  7. Happy birthday to the Mr!
A destination wedding can be fun if it fits in your plans — or you make it your own vacation too.

We do have a vacation planned for 2024 — unlike 2023!

Glad Bandit is doing better. The antibiotics messing up his appetite makes sense.

    1. Let’s just say this marriage has been a long time coming. 🙂 It’s a family wedding, though, so a bit concerned about both Bandit & my mom (because we’d all be out of the country). But a long ways away, right now I just started a Pinterest board about the destination (which could also change, I’m told).

  8. Whatever Bandit wants, Bandit gets!

I hope the trip works out for you. Things have been challenging, and i know that would be so much fun! Future trips really perk me up!

The watercolorr class sounds awesome, but that is a far drive. I’m usually not mad when things like that don’t work out. Fingers crossed for next year.
