Live to run another day: 9/25 – 10/1 WRD

It was a week. Not a terrible week, but it was just super hard to juggle everything this week and running took a hit. Didn’t run on Monday due to Yom Kippur. Had plans to run on Thursday, but darn Full Moon gets me every time — I knew it wasn’t in my best interest that day. Friday I had to go to my mom, as I had groceries to deliver and Mr. Judy had somewhere to be Saturday and going on Sunday wasn’t going to happen.

And what a trip that was! Raining all the way, although thankfully not windy, and I’ve driven in worse. Well, I’ll talk about that more over tea on Friday.

Then a long-er run shortened yesterday due to lack of interest by my body, LOL!

Running Update

A Halloween decoration I have not seen before. A little creepy, as it should be. I wonder if they’ll light it up on Halloween? Or maybe it’s reflective? Otherwise who would see it?

Tuesday intention: remind the feet to go faster
Yom Kippur saved me from yet another rainy Monday run, but it messed up my running week. This was a good run. It was going to be my long run — I felt I definitely consumed enough carbs in the evening, but I guess the fasting meant I wasn’t quite ready for that so switched it to strides. I did run a half once the day after Yom Kippur (which I did fast for) and it was a PR, but that was quite a few years ago. Six, to be exact.

When your skirt & shoes match the weather (rain)

Saturday intention: go long-er
I waited hours for the cool rain to end, except it didn’t (the weathermen lied again). So I had another rainy run, just not on a Monday. My body battery lied, too, it said I had lots of charge (which surprised me), but I did seem to feel okay. Until mile 4.

I thought about dragging myself through the 5 miles I’d planned on, and then I just said nope. Listen to your body, peeps. It’s so rare I cut a run short, and of course there was no real plan today so I wasn’t actually cutting training short, just my own stubbornness.

As I stopped to take the photo above a large mosquito landed on my leg. Thankfully I got him off before he could do any damage.

Live to run another day, I always say. Hopefully tomorrow!

Except, nope. Not the running week I wanted, but apparently the one I needed.

Caught the full moon this morning

Favorites of the week
We booked a short little vacation next week and will reconnect with at least a couple of college friends (hopefully more) that we haven’t seen since we got married (or longer). The weather looks amazing — Indian Summer.

We’re taking Bandit with us, so I’m not expecting it to be a super restful or even active vacation, because he can be really balky about walking in new places these days. I think back 2 years ago to our DE vacation; what a difference those 2 years have made. And still waiting on the ultrasound results . . . I guess it can’t be too bad if they won’t respond to multiple calls and it’s been over a week now. I’ll call again today (yes, they are open on Sundays).

ICYMI: Open your heart (so you can breath deeply and bring in energy) and your hips — well, you know why you want open hips! — click here for the video (live at 8 am).

Coming up next Week: We’ll catch up over hot beverages & I should be back in time to share some Fall Foliage with the WRD

  1. Well, have fun next week. It’s always good to get away for a bit.

But not when you’re training for a race. And so it’s good that you run when and whatever miles you want.

And yes it was wet yesterday but it did stop.

Looks like summer is returning for a few days.

    1. So think about the full moon. It’s full, so there’s a lot of light. Most people feel more energized during the full moon, but I’m really sensitive to light & rarely sleep well during the full moon. It’s kind of ironic!

  2. It really is way brighter outside during a full moon (I noticed it on my early morning run!) so I can see how if you’re sensitive to the light, it would mess with your sleep.
I hope your vacation is nice! It sounds like it could be incredible- if Bandit behaves. Good luck with it!

  3. I guess living in the suburbs, I’m used to sleeping with light outside — there’s a streetlight right outside our house and we don’t have blackout curtains in our bedroom — may you could try those?

Odd on Bandit’s ultrasound results, but you’re right, no news usually is good news from a dr’s office (or vet).

    1. I’m a light sleeper & even when Mr. Judy doesn’t close the door enough I can have trouble sleeping! We’re in the suburbs, too, & it’s not as though it’s actually shining in. It’s really supposed to give you more energy . . .

  4. At work, we always joke about the full moon affecting things–but it’s crazy all the time. I don’t notice it affecting me at all. I want to join in on a full moon run on the IAT at our lake house sometime!

    1. That’s just way past my bedtime! A garden near my mom had a full moon viewing last month. I considered it, it sounded cool (but I have to sleep on the couch in my mom’s sauna of an apartment), but it was canceled anyway due to rain of course.

  5. The full moon! It was still up the entire time we were running yesterday morning, and we ran long, LOL. My youngest is a newborn photographer, and she said she photographed 15 babies on Friday at her hospital!

  6. Always wrapping Bandit in big hugs.

I hope it was an easy fast and day of reflection for you.

And I hope you have a wonderful little vacation. I know it may not be totally restful, but hopefully the change of scenery does you all some good.

  7. Oh I think we have the exact same running trainers! Are yours Saucony Guides? They look very familiar. No running for me as I have a hard enough time breathing just existing at the moment (I’m not dangerously ill but I tried to talk and walk up the stairs and ended up having to catch my breath). I do miss it! Ah well. Hope you have a good trip and some nice scenery and landscapes.

    1. Yes, they are Saucony Guides. I also run in Endorphin Speeds & they usually do make me faster!

Take it easy now so you can recover fully. You don’t want to push to hard while your body is recovering! I’m sorry you’re still feeling poorly & hope you continue to improve quickly. How’s Matthew doing?

      1. Oh yes, completely. People are always telling me not to push things but I really never do. I am resting and sleeping a lot and while I did do some housework today, I did it today because I’m getting a haircut tomorrow and one thing a day is enough.
