Falling Waters?: Tea/coffee Date October 2023

Ultimate-Coffee-Date-1-300x300

I’m joining  Coco and Deborah and sharing some stories that have water involved. I had started to plan this waterfall trip in Winter, I think, but it got put aside when Bandit got so sick after our trip to Asheville. We only had two trips this year previously. One was a funeral, so doesn’t really count, although we did get to explore a cool park on the way down (met someone yesterday who was basically doing the same thing). I was sick during Asheville. So not a great year for trips!

Also the last few trips to visit my mom were just there and back, no side trips, basically due to weather.

The title of my note for this trip was Waterfall trip, and in the beginning I was despairing of seeing a single waterfall. But first, let’s talk about my most recent trip to my mom.

In case you’re not on Facebook you missed this

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell start with telling you how pissed I am at Bandit’s vet. Seriously if he didn’t like it there so much, I’d be looking for a new one. I called multiple times about the Ultrasound results — waiting 3 days before I even started to call (results were supposed to take 24-48 hours). They kept telling me the vet would call; crickets.

By the way I’m calling again today because it’s been over 2 weeks . . .

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you that when I went to my mom last week in the rain, the road was blocked a half mile from where I’m supposed to turn, so roughly 1 1/2 miles away. After a 2 hour drive in pretty hard rain.

Luckily there are multiple ways to get there, I just didn’t know exactly how to go from point A (where I was) to point B (aka where my mom lives). Luckily the GPS got me there, although I did have to drive around a downed half tree which thankfully wasn’t blocking the entire road — I also had to drive over some bits and pieces of said tree.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I thought it would be clear when I left, so I drove the normal way. Nope. I swear I wanted to cry at this point, the visit was short but stressful, having to call a doctor’s office, then medicare, then the doctor’s office again — only now they were closed. Well once again the GPS came through, the downed tree was still downed, but I guess enough cars had come through already that I didn’t have to drive over the bits on the road again.

This view was as far as Bandit & Mr. Judy got . . .

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you the trip out was long due to road construction and Bandit, so we drove right past the park with the highest single drop waterfall east of the Mississippi. When the next day was full of meeting up with different college friends, I despaired of actually seeing any waterfall at all. But we packed in three in the last two days.

My thought was to visit that park on the way out, but AllTrails is really a great tool. I looked at photos of that waterfall from 24 hours previously — just a trickle. Then I looked at the waterfall we went to — I could see it was really flowing. And yup, it was beautiful and didn’t add too much time to our trip.

. . . Because there were many flights of these
Soaking in the sunrise over Seneca Lake (after I somewhat dragged him there)

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d end with Bandit (again/still). He actually did quite well, aside from the accident the first day. We watched him like a hawk after that. I couldn’t run, though, because I had to walk him early in the morning while it was still cool — and he would have driven Mr. Judy nuts with his anxiety if I’d left him to run.

He walked great the day we got there and the day we left (after the above photo was taken). In between he was quite balky and I know he really didn’t want to go to the lake above, but I did so we did. We helped a bit in trying to capture a loose dog on the run on that walk, but alas it got away from us — I really hope the owner managed to catch her.

The surprise was as long as I was there, he was fine in our AirBnB even though it was a suite off a main house and there was noise — and two small yappy (but cute) dogs — he never barked at them at all (but it’s not his house). And he ate quite well; sometimes it’s not easy to get him to eat when we’re away from home.

If you got this far, thanks for reading — I had a lot to share!

Have is your foliage?

If you travel with your furkid, how do they do?

  1. You know my answers because we live in the same area and I’m a cat person.

Glad you were able to get away.

As you know, we just came back from the Finger Lakes and it was gorgeous. We had an amazing time together. Even if our weather was lousy. I hope Lloyd enjoyed the wine there.

  2. Beautiful waterfall! My dog, Libby, is the most tolerant dog in the world. I don’t think she loves to travel but she tolerates it and she does well, for the most part (she doesn’t get sick and eats enough but not like at home). I’m taking her when I go pick up my daughter for Fall Break next week just so she can (maybe) sort of start to understand why my daughter isn’t at home all the time now. We’ll see anyway.

    1. Bandit gets randomly carsick & thankfully that didn’t happen. It’s actually kind of a chill dog . . . unless I’m gone. They don’t get over that. 😦

I can’t imagine traveling with him solo though! Hope it’s a great trip for all of you!

  3. Aw, Bandit is such a good dog! That’s infuriating about the vet though. I certainly hope no news is good news.
Your waterfall pics are BEAUTIFUL. Sorry the trip to your mom’s was so stressful… the last thing you needed were difficult driving detours on top of everything else!

    1. I’m taking some of the grocery shopping over for my sister & I had to bring stuff. The only other choice was Sunday & the weather was great but I knew that wasn’t what I needed the day before this trip!

You do what you gotta do, as we all do.

  4. That waterfall picture is stunning! I’m so happy you were able to see at least three waterfalls while on your trip. How many had you originally hoped to see? Also, I love the pic of Bandit with the lake in the distance.

I’m so sorry to hear that the vet’s office is being so irresponsible in getting back to you with Bandit’s test results. Hopefully, no news is good news.

Our leaves are just starting to turn a tiny bit. We’re heading to Vermont on Wednesday and I hope we’re not going to be too late for the peak leaf season up there.

    1. You will probably be right at peak, maybe just a bit past depending where you go (we lived in VT when first married). So have a fabulous time!

I wasn’t sure how many waterfalls we’d get to. There are a ton out there, but Bandit’s pretty limited in how far he’s willing to walk (and unfortunately it was quite warm). Some of the ones I originally thought we’d go to I check online & they weren’t running well so I’m very happy with the ones we saw!

  5. I love those waterfall pics! The first one looks like it should be a puzzle.

It’s great that Bandit did so well on your trip. I hope the vet gives you the results soon — and that they are good news.

  6. You captured some beautiful waterfall shots! I’m so sorry about the vet. You are the second person in the span of two days with a terrible vet story. Ugh. Ozzy doesn’t do well in the car so we don’t take him anywhere. He flew to FL just fine but the flight attendant on the trip home was a total a$$ and decided it was better to let him howl under the seat than sleep in my lap. Sigh.

    1. I remember that story about Ozzy! I had a similar one about Chester when we moved here — except he wasn’t howling, just quietly laying on my lap in his carrier.

I called yesterday. The receptionist talked to the hospital manager. Said they’d mark it as urgent (I think she was kind of horrified that the vet hasn’t contacted us).

Did she call? I think you know the answer to that.

I’m not stressing about it, but I’d love to talk to the vet (and not just about the results). But we have to work with her. Maybe it’s time to change vets within the practice, basically we got stuck with her because he needed to be seen when all this started.

  7. Asheville is a gorgeous place. I’d love to go back to check out more waterfalls around there!

I really hope you hear back from Bandit’s vet soon! That’s horrible! :[

I’d love to travel more with Tofu but he gets super anxious on car rides. He does well if we give him some trazodone though so maybe that’s how I’ll slowlyy get him to more hikes/traveling in the years to come!

    1. Bandit is really good in the car, but he does get randomly carsick. Thankfully he didn’t. Although he threw up this morning (we are home).

Lola was good in the car around town, but very anxious (but not carsick) on longer trips, but she survived and we traveled a lot with her.

The moon roof, when we could open it, really calmed her down.

I hope you’re able to bring Tofu with you more! Bandit needs a lot more care now so our usual pet sitters no longer really work, except for daycare.
