The Truth is Out There: 12/5 – 17 WRD

My mom got a nice surprise yesterday when Mr. Judy and Bandit came with me to visit for the first time in almost 6 months. Her apartment was still like a sauna, but Bandit’s pupsicle kept him occupied once we got him going.

Running Update

A treadmill kind of day

Monday intention: endurance run
It was nasty outside, with snow, and some ice underneath the snow. Even though it did eventually melt, this wasn’t something I wanted to take a chance on — so for the first time in many months it was a treadmill run. I deliberately kept it easy. I was surprised that it seemed the new Garmin, which I don’t think had experienced a treadmill run yet, seemed much closer to the treadmill (for distance) than the old Garmin.

Surprised how long this snowman has hung around!

Thursday intention: just run
Had a pretty good run today but baby it was chilly out there! I had actually planned to run Wednesday, but I think the weather was actually better today so it all works out.

Favorites of the week
My mom was very happy to see us all. I think we tired Bandit out with a decent walk at the park, because he didn’t go outside to almost 8 am this morning. Not a bad thing, walks are doubtful the next few days.

My what a big tongue you have!
Sojourner Truth State Park

We stopped at the new Sojourner Truth State Park near Kingston. The trails (which they’re still working on) were meh, but there’s also a paved bike path (part of the whole Empire State Network) with a really nice pavilion and views.

In my travels in this area I’d come to realize that when you leave the Kingston area and go on to my mom, there’s a pizza place right on the way. We stopped to get pizza (we ate ours in the car) – and my mom actually approved of the rest that we brought to her — she’s a harsh food critic these days.

ICYMI: This Yin Yoga flow will open your heart and strengthen your hips (just excuse the crazy hair!) & welcome Winter, too — click here for the video (live at 8 am).

Coming up next Week: WRD.

  1. Aw… I love the watercolor of Bandit! Sounds like a nice week and a really great visit with your mom- the hike, the pizza, the whole family going to see her. She must have loved it, and it sounds like a nice outing for you guys.
    That snow looks pretty!

  2. How nice for your mom to get all of you visiting, and I love your painting of Bandit!
I definitely would have preferred the treadmill too – that looks slippery and dangerous! You must have had a decent snowfall if they managed to build a snowman with it.

  3. Sorry about your nasty weather. I love that watercolor of sort of santa Bandit. I think it’s gorgeous. So glad your visits with mom are going well, although no fun about the sauna condo. I hope things start calming down for you, soon!

    1. Thanks. I just chuckle, I’m just copying a reference photo and following instructions! I often get into trouble when I just try to paint on my own — that’s what I really want to be able to do! Some day.

  4. What a fantastic Santa pup painting! Wow, your weather has really been a bear. We’ve been in a nice reprieve, and it’s continuing this week as well. January is gonna bite back, I’m afraid…

  5. Just wanted to comment that I looked up the tutorial I think you’re using and I think I’m going to try it! I just started taking classes that a local garden offers. This would be a nice supplement. (I hadn’t been reading running blogs lately as my running has slowed. I randomly checked today)
    Happy New Year!

    1. I assume you’re talking about the painting? That one is from watercolormastery.com. I have a few others I can recommend! I used to paint acrylics & some oils decades ago, but I’ve only been painting watercolors about half a year now. Definitely recommend that site;but it takes a lot longer than 20 minutes for most of the tutorials.

I hear you on the blogs. I’ve had to scale back my running just due to life circumstances & have also scaled back blogging a lot too.

      1. Yes, watercolor mastery! If you have other recommendations that would be great. 🙂
I’m glad you said it takes longer than 20 minutes because that’s how I felt browsing the site. Some look to detailed to be completed in 20 min as a beginner.
I wanted to try to find new hobbies other than running and reading for when I retire (which is at least 15 years away lol).
