Is a Healthy S’mores Mug Cake an Oxymoron? TOLT

Today much of my TThinking Out Loud centers around Chester, which I suppose is only natural. Except there was that little side trip into s’mores land . . .

Don’t search for healthy smores mug cake on Pinterest
Trust me on this. It will lead you down a rabbit hole you really don’t want to go down (not if you’re really interested in healthy mug cakes, that is).

The night I kicked Chester out of bed
I’m not quite sure what happened Monday night. I remember I was trying to get my foot out from under the covers and the next thing I knew I heard Chester hitting the floor.

No, he wasn’t hurt.

Did I actually kick him out of bed or did he just take it as a signal that it was time to go outside?

We’ll never know.

It was only midnight, by the way. And we ended up going out again in about 3 hours. Then getting up (and him going out again) another hour and a half later.

I still don’t see how new mothers do it, but they’re usually not in their mid 50s, either!

Damn autocorrect!
Tuesday it was supposed to be freezing rain in the morning, turning to rain in the afternoon. Except it never warmed up enough to turn to rain. I wanted to take Chester in, but I really didn’t think it was safe enough and this was the text exchange between me & the vet assistant:

Who knows; maybe a drink would do him wonders!

Staying up to midnight?
I never stay up to midnight. Normally I’m up by 4 am, so really, what’s the point in exhausting myself?

Except lately I’ve been up at 2 am and 3 am with Chester most nights.

I’m trying to work out if I stay up til midnight and keep him up til then whether he’d let me sleep later.

But who am I kidding, I would never last that long and he’d probably still wake me up at 3 am!

A 31 Minute 5k is a 10 mm pace
Well, d’oh! Why did it never occur to me that 3.1 x 10 = 31 minutes? So why is the 30 minute 5k the holy grail, or so it seems?

So now that I’ve thrown out that that’s my goal, it’s a bit daunting, I must say. But I have been close. And if I’ve been close, that probably means it is doable.

Finally, of course, Happy New Year
Wishing all my blogging friends a happy, safe New Year’s Eve and a fantastic 2016. I’ve so enjoyed connecting with new people over the last 6 months!

Do you stay up to midnight? Go out? Celebrate at home?

I’m linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for her:

Thursdays are for thinking out loud

  1. Happy New Year! I don’t think you kicked Chester off the bed. The same thing happens with Callie when I move around. We are going to dinner with friends early (5:30) and will be home well before the craziness. I probably won’t be up until midnight since the cats got me up at 3 (which is sleeping in from 2 but I have the day off).

    1. Well, I do have every day off . . . sort of. I’m still pretty darn busy & always wonder how you working folk do it (although I was one once, of course).

When I wake up, I try not to move because the minute Chester senses movement, he wants to go out!

I didn’t hurt him, but of course Lloyd will never let me live it down.

      1. You actually sound busier than I am at work some days. I try not to move too much when I wake up so that Callie doesn’t know I’m awake….that doesn’t work. Malika doesn’t care.
I am not surprised about Lloyd. I’m sure you must have something you can call him on, though.

    1. I actually do make a “healthy” smores mug cake, except it wasn’t terribly tasty. 😦

      I’m shooting for a 31 5k; let’s not get crazy here. 😉

Happy New Year & an early happy birthday! Do you like that it’s a holiday?

  3. It took me three years to reach the elusive sub-thirty minute 5K. (I came in at 29.57 on my late mother’s birthday in 2014). Elusive, but not impossible. Here’s a wish that 2016 is the charm for you. Good luck.

  4. Oh man, lately has been going out multiple times a night as well and it’s driving me insane. We got him a month before we found out i was pregnant with my first son, so we like to say he was training me for all the late night wakings I had in store. Now that I’m pregnant again and have a toddler that is a terrible sleeper, the waking up doesn’t bother me too much since I feel like I’m used it it, it’s more annoying than anything! Anyway, Have a great New Year’s!

  5. I -kind of- made a healthy s’mores mug cake, but it still has marshmallows, so it’s really only ‘healthier’ to a point. And I’m not really sure about staying up ’till midnight either since I wake up at 4 or 5 regardless of what time I go to sleep, so I plan on playing it by ear and seeing how things go. Happy New Year!

    1. Good luck on being up at midnight. I absolutely no I won’t be. And we have no plans; we were going to get some sushi (or rather my husband was going to pick up some), but I suggested we grill a steak instead, so that’s what we’re doing.

Chester likes that. Heck, all the animals like that!

I did find one lighter smores mug cake recipe, which I made, but it didn’t float my boat.

I’ve kind of become obssessed with smores lately, I make smores overnight oats for breakfast on long run days.

  6. Going out to dinner & a movie (Spotlight) and coming home to watch the ball drop. I always feel like I have to stay up on NYE. Lately I’ve been up until midnight anyway since I am on break. See you tomorrow at the race.

    1. Haven’t stayed up to midnight in yrs. We were going to get sushi, but we’re both really tired, my husband got off early from work . . . we’re going to grill a steak instead and probably go out this weekend. I haven’t been out to eat in a few weeks (we order in sometimes).

But I will make a big bowl of buttered popcorn, too. Too bad I’m only running 3 1/2!
