A lot of my first 2016 runfessions center around the cold — and what it keeps me from doing. As if that’s an excuse! We can always find an excuse, can’t we?
Today I’m joining up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice to share my runfessions, because runfessions are good for the soul (and sometimes they get us doing the things we ought to be doing, too; nothing like a little public shaming).
I runfess . . .
I spend a lot of time in my pajamas in the winter. Like maybe half the day if I don’t have to go out? I spend even more time in my slippers, because they’re nice and warm.
I runfess . . .
I have all sorts of warm running gear. Plenty of warm running gear.
Does that stop me from accumulating more because . . . I need it? NOT!
I runfess . . .
I will too often turn to the treadmill, despite those warm running clothes, if I have no one to meet up with.
Sometimes it’s the right thing to do — my immune system doesn’t need to be out there on a day that’s 20F but feels like -5 with the windchill. Just because you can, doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
Mostly it’s a mental thing. I know once I get out there and moving, it won’t be that bad. But getting out there could take me all morning!
I runfess . . .
I feel little aches and pains in my feet on and off the past month. It concerns me, considering I’m not training for a race (well, just started) and I’m running pretty low mileage and not tackling hills.
They don’t bother me at all while I’m running.
I actually think that maybe it’s related to point #1: I’m spending way too much time walking around in unsupportive slippers.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Since I wrote about it they seemed to have stopped bothering me. And I’m still walking around in slippers half the day!
I runfess . . .
I have not been keeping track of the mileage on my running shoes. I write down which shoes I wear on my runs, but I haven’t totaled that up at all.
It’s one of my goals for 2016.
I runfess . . .
I would rather stay nice and warm in my bed than get up and do some yoga, even if I’m not sleeping.
Because, cold. Especially since I do my yoga downstairs, which is colder than our upstairs.
So I’m often squeezing in just 10 or 15 minutes before I go to bed (if that), when I have plenty of time in the morning if I’d just get myself out of bed.
I runfess . . .
I have been doing a lot of grocery shopping in running clothes lately. Before. After.
I wonder what people think of my running tights, shoes — what they can see of it, anyway, beneath my almost ankle length down coat. That I’m wearing on days that aren’t even all that cold, because either it’s been really windy or I’m shopping after I run and I’m sweaty and get chilled if I don’t put on that godawful (but warm) coat.
Seriously, they must be thinking it’s really not that cold, why is she wearing that monstrosity?
Runfession is good for the soul! Come join us
As I read this in my onsie and fuzzy slippers….
It’s cold-I don’t like cold-i will wear clothes that make me warm until I have to change and deal with society-lol.
I may or may not have been in this same onsie since the snowstorm last week #runfession
Our downstairs is MUCH colder than upstairs…makes it soooo hard to go down there and workout 😦

Ah, but I don’t even have snow to blame (thank goodness).
Now cold; last week was super cold! It takes an effort to work out then!

Cold has me running on the treadmill on the weekends when I’d usually go outside. And by cold I mean <50* 🙂

If it’s above freezing (like just a couple of degrees), it’s warm here and I’m usually outside.
If it’s gray, really snowing (hasn’t happened yet this year! Woohoo!), and blustery, I will usually stay inside on the treadmill.
It’s all relative, though.

You need to get those Oofos–OMG, they are the most comfy, supportive flip flops ever. I need to buy some toe socks tho. My feet are kind of cold.

I keep hearing that. I have toe socks, but I’d still be too cold wearing those in winter!

Oh gosh, I am ALWAYS in my jammies and slippers if I am not 1. At work. 2. Running. LOL!! I also never track mileage on shoes…I go by feel. I get shin splints when it is time to replace them, which in higher mileage months is usually 3-5 months.

I rotate through several pairs; I find it kind of hard to just go by feel alone.

That’s probably smart!! I usually have 2 pairs that I use during training, and then I keep the older ones for cross training.

Haha I like this post. I actually love PJs but don’t buy the “traditional” clothing items for them. First, a lot of PJ bottoms just plain don’t fit me. Because they are apparently designed for a one size fits all scenario, and I’m short, with a short torso, and skinny calves with hips. That being said I find stuff that works!
Slippers is tricky cause I seem to always buy ones that leave marks on the floor, and they can’t wear them. Sigh.
Also, I use the treadmill too much too! And I buy wayyyyy too much running gear. But whatever motivates you, no? Plus I’m really into the whole workout/casual everyday wear look.
But about your feet! Be careful, definitely see a doctor if it keeps up. I have a new philosophy to see a doctor for anything that feels slightly odd as a result of exercise. Too many times I have just let it go, and paid the price in a longer recovery that ends up seeing the doctor anyhow. Then again, I could just have bad luck ROFL.

Thankfully I’m pretty careful – I’m pretty sure it’s just shoes or how I was running.
I’m 5’1″ so pretty much all clothes are challenging! And pear shaped, too.

I am not a slippers person, but I’ve gotten good use out of my smartwool socks since the blizzard.

That would be me too so I am glad I have to get dressed and go to work 5 days a week.
We really have been lucky. It hasn’t been cold. I remember other winters where the temps were below zero.
So I just need to drag you out to run!!! LOL.

I worked from home before I stopped working so I’ve been this way a long time!
I didn’t run on the mill at all this week.

Blah! The cold brings out the procrastinator in me. I totally get how it makes you hesitate before doing stuff. Last week I went down to the pain cave for a run on the mill then remembered we’d moved the cable box so that TV wasn’t working. It wasn’t fun to run without Barefoot Contessa, Cupcake Wars and Pioneer Woman but somehow I managed. My slippers kick serious behind. But so not supportive either. Thanks for linking up!

I can’t imagine running on the mill without tv! Seriously. You’re committed!

I wish I had comfortable pjs…i am guilty of not changing my little boy out of his pjs on the weekend. If we aren’t going anywhere, who is to know?! Lol, my hubs when he gets home from work and asks if those are the same ones he was wearing when he left 8-10 hours before… The cold mornings are my snooze button’s friend, and not my training plan’s friend, for sure!

I do eventually get out of pjs & into workout clothes & usually into jeans at some point to walk Lola & get the mail.
This weekend we were at my parents & they don’t have a fenced in yard & I ended up walking Lola multiple times in my pjs — with that long down coat over them. I never do that at home, but we have a fenced in yard so we just let her out.
Each time I took her out I wasn’t actually expecting to walk her but she seemed to want to go!
I did rack up a lot of steps today despite a couple of hours in the car.

I’m not in my jammies much, but I’m definitely rocking the slippers when I’m in my house. Even after a run, I’ll kick off the running shoes and promptly slid on the slippers…still in my running clothes. And, sometimes, I’ll stay that way until the next morning (there, I’ve said it). 😉

I already find any excuse I can to wear my running clothes to work, or at least part of them. A tank as a base layer, compression socks under boots, leggings with a cardigan. If I didn’t have to go to work, I’m afraid I’d live in my running clothes!
