Juggling too many balls?: Spilling over high tea November 2016

Everything keeps sneaking up on me, including this post. I’d totally forgotten that it was this weekend. Shouldn’t it have been last weekend when I went out for tea? If I were a juggler, I’d be dropping balls all over the place. Wait, Mr. Judy tried to teach me to juggle and I did drop balls all over the place!

Doesn’t stop me from pulling up a chair, brewing up a cuppa, and letting you know what’s on my mind today.

Confessions of a Mother Runner

Today I am joining up with Coco and Deborah for their ultimate coffee tea date.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that people are cliquey, no matter what their age. My parents are having a hard time finding people to eat with, because they’re the “new” kids on the block. Despite the fact that they know some people there!

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I don’t know how I’m going to pull off Thanksgiving. I’m sure I will, but man, there’s a ton of cleaning, decluttering, and oh yeah, what the heck to make! Plus that pesky little half marathon to train for.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I have not been setting goals. I’ve been creating to do lists instead. Daily to do lists. But goals? I might sit down and think about them for about 10 minutes or so a few days before a race . . . barely.

It’s been a whirlwind year, both good and bad.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I feel as though Lola is getting the short end of the stick. That Lola has always been on the short end of the stick. Except maybe when we first got her, and like Bandit, she had issues and required a lot of training.

She does get to be free in the house and sleep with us; Bandit doesn’t.

Mr. Judy was not real pleased with all the training that went into Lola. Oddly enough, he is much more tolerant of Bandit’s issues/training. It’s a bromance. Can you have a bromance with a dog? Is it a dogmance? Not as catchy.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you I love this coat. The dogs & I got caught in some rain recently (man, with all that technology, can’t they show me accurate radar?). I was only wearing a race tee under it. It was in the 50s.

This coat (I got it at Marshalls) has some space blanket like material on the inside. I was warm. Plus it kept me totally dry!

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I go to bed feeling 100% physically and I wake up feeling as though I’ve pulled a muscle. Am I the only one that happens to? I hate when that happens!

Tea? Iced Tea? Coffee? Decaf? Or something else?

Do you feel like one kid/furkid gets the majority of the attention?

Does it bother you?

Can you come up with something catchy for being in love with your male dog?

  1. Whoa!! There are mean kids there too…you would think folks would grow out of that!!! that sucks!! 😦

I need soethi g to force me to clean…maybe I should have Thanksgiving at my house….hmmm.

Awww poor Bandit…but I am sure she enjoys her freedoms though.

    Beautiful color coat!! Looks cozy!

I think as the body recovers during sleep it develops some soreness for sure.

Thanks for having tea…I am enjoyed catching up.

  2. Callie does get more snuggles and pets thank Malika but only because Malika squirms away. Hey, if she doesn’t want it then that’s her problem.
We have a friend that works at a retirement community. He calls it senior high.
That does look like a nice coat and it’s purple so that makes me happy.
Dogma never works. I can’t think of anything catchier.

  3. Oh, I hope your parents break into to those groups. I like to think that people on the inside doesn’t realize the wall they’re presenting to people on the outside – it’s just easier and more comfortable to talk with people you already know well. I don’t even make lists – I’m just doing whatever has to get done at the moment! Glad you remembered to join us for coffee!

  4. ha ha…a bromance with Bandit! It took us awhile to consider getting a dog, and the husband was even more resistant than me (and he has ZERO allergies). Now, he’s all lovey-dovey with Max…you’d think they have “something” going on LOL Love that coat! I have a similar one I got last year….haven’t been caught in the rain with it yet.

  5. That’s a very cute jacket! My brother has been in an assisted living facility for 8 years. I still don’t think he has found a dining partner he enjoys. But that’s probably more his fault. We have a dog I consider “special needs”. The stuff he gets away with — OMG. My husband is way more tolerant than I ever expected. My MIL still enjoys hosting Thanksgiving dinner. Thankfully, I show up with a couple of dishes and clean up afterwards. Christmas is my stressful event. By the way, it’s OK to drop a few balls. 😉

  6. That jacket looks great! I love the detail on it- love Marshall’s! Too bad about the clique thing- people are so afraid of change and it unfortunately includes making new friends- hopefully it will get better.

  7. I think it’s natural for people to be cliquey. We like groups and things that are familiar, but that makes it hard on the outsiders. Hope your parents find a clique to fit into.

We don’t really do anything for Thanksgiving, but I should still take some time to do a little de-cluttering. Best of luck to you with your Thanksgiving and race prep!

  8. I feel your pain with Thanksgiving. We’re having it at our house this year, 10 to 12 people, and it’s a little stressful. It’s also 3 days after James and I return from Tulsa. AND I have a Turkey Trot that morning. Thankfully, I’m not cooking. James’s step-mother from Boise is. Still, 10 to 12 people.

And yes, I fear I give Meeps more attention than Nero, but Nero is unfortunately going downhill fast and is hiding so he isn’t bothered between feedings. I don’t think he’ll last to the New Year. I will be so grateful when the trials and tribulations of 2016 are over… this year has sucked in terms of general life issues.

    1. You know, I thought that about 2015 & look what 2016 turned into. 😔 I’m so sorry about Nero – that pulling away when they’re sick is SO hard.

I’ll be doing a turkey trot, too & I’ll leave for my next half Lisa week later! Heaven help me!

But we’re only 8 including me & Mr. Judy (although I do the cooking).

Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?

  9. Cliques really bother me too, I am with you!!! They really are EVERYWHERE. I was always a tea person until I needed something stronger when my hubby left so drink a cup of coffee too. I only have one furbaby, and he is SPOILED beyond measure…no wait, LOVED is a better word. hehe.
    LOVE your coat!

  10. The clique-y thing is so true. One of the hard things about relocating (and one of the reasons why I don’t want to relocate for work any more). I also identify with the “majority of the attention” comment. I have one son that lives with me and shares a passion and another son that I don’t see as often and we don’t have the same connection over cycling. So that does leave me feeling conflicted sometimes.

    1. We moved 8 years ago after being in one city for 17 years! I’m shy; it took me a long time to make friends.

And since we know we don’t want to retire here . . . yeah, the next move will be hard, too!

  11. I know you’ve been so busy lately!! Hopefully, things are calming down. I like the purple jacket! I am somewhat dreading the weather getting colder and permanently being layered up. I hope your parents get past the clique drama soon!

    1. I think it really depends on the dog, although you have to remember they’re pack animals.

Still, if we’d lost Lola, I doubt we would have gotten a second dog. Chester wasn’t super interested in other dogs; he just wanted me.

Lola, OTOH, loves to play. She seemed ok at first, but eventually she seemed kind of depressed. Life was easier with just her, but she is definitely part of the reason we got a second dog again.

  12. Cliques? Great to be in one, that feeling of belonging, that someone’s got your back. Much better to make room for one mor though- surely more friends is better!
Love the coat, a great colour and it sounds perfect from the weather point of view too!

  13. My furkid gets a lot of attention. We started picking the cat up all the time when he was a kitten and he got used to it and LOVES attention now. Sits on us all the time, wants to sleep with us, so he definitely gets enough love.
I often Wake up with a stiff neck or sciatic… I think I need to change my matress or pillow.
    Loved seeing you Saturday !

    1. Gizmo is not overly fond of being picked up, although his brother Simba loved it.

But he LOVES laying on my lap. At one point while I was gone and Mr. Judy was taking care of everyone, he even deigned to lay on HIS lap (which is highly unusual).

He stopped sleeping with us when we got dogs, though, and has never gone back to it. Maybe that’s why he stalks me so much during the day.

It was great seeing you again too — thank you for taking the time to chat with us!
