It’s bad when they name the storm: 11/25-12/1 WRD

Thanksgiving was spent with my parents, my sister and her kids, plus one of the couples my parents eat with on a regular basis. It wasn’t horrible and it wasn’t great, and I have a strong feeling it might be my Dad’s last Thanksgiving, but only time will tell. Not a whole lot of activity this week, but there’s going to be a lot of shoveling (potentially) the next couple of days.

Running Update

This path will be buried in snow soon, so took advantage of it while it’s clear

Monday
I arranged my run around errands again. I also had trouble making up my mind when I actually wanted to run, and while today was relatively warm, it was also gray. Guess I better suck it up because that describes a lot of our winter! 3 easy miles; nothing terribly remarkable, but I guess I did okay because it nudged my VO2 up a point. No cats. 🙂

Thursday
We had to leave by 9am so the treadmill it was for 3 progressive miles. Thanksgiving was . . . ok. No big drama (not til much later that night, or actually early Friday morning, long after we’d left).

Cold, but thankfully little wind & sun for the win

Saturday
A very chilly 6 miles with friends. Not too much wind and sunshine, though, so it really wasn’t bad, and I actually had company the whole six miles. Been a long time since I actually ran with someone!

Horrible Bald Eagle specs — but he was a beauty! Or she?

Favorites of the week
I spotted this Bald Eagle during one of our walk breaks. Although we do have eagles in the area, and I’ve actually seen them on the path in a different town once (also on a run with friends), I had never seen one on this particular path (which is the end of Mowhawk Hudson Half/Marathon — you never know what you might see!).

Ford vs Ferrari. I have zero interest in cars (as you might be able to tell from my 19 year old Honda Civic) or car racing, but this was a terrific movie and I highly recommend it.

Do you like cars and/or car racing?

Favorite Thanksgiving memory?

Any other new movies you’d recommend?

  1. We saw Ford vs. Ferrari recently, too. I grew up going to car races with my parents, so I have ZERO interest in anything race-related these days (unless it involves bibs and running shoes). I also thought the movie was good! Looks like it was damp and cold everywhere this last week…

    1. My husband likes movies. Getting him there can be a different story, sometimes, but we had to go pick up the dogs — and we’d basically left them with the pet sitter overnight to make it easier to go see a movie, LOL!

  2. Hope the storm is not too back and I get to NYc tomorrow.

Hope things work out with your Dad.

I’m going to see Les Miz movie next Sun and plan to see Harriet and Mr Rogers. Always a lot of movies out around the holidays.

  3. Sorry to hear your Thanksgiving was ok, or what I would describe as “meh”. It’s hard when you have your loved ones to think about isn’t it?

I love classic cars and am semi-interested in racing. I am therefore semi-interested in the movie! Christian Bale is in it and that may be enough to get Ron interested in going with me 🙂

I can’t say I have a favorite Thanksgiving memory. It’s a sort of good-bad thing for me really. I have quite a few alcoholics in my family so there was always drama. My grandma Lois did however used to make the B E S T pecan pie in the whole world so that was always good. In a way I don’t miss thanksgiving but I miss that I never had that Hallmark thing that people have.

    1. Both Christian Bale & Matt Damon were great — as well as the rest of the cast.

Our family actually does all get along. No alcoholics. But the situation with my parents is just very stressful & really sad. 😔

    1. We saw Knives Out and really loved it. Pure fun!

Sometimes an OK holiday with family is the most you can hope for. Ours was good but I spent too much time in the kitchen despite having lots of help.

    2. There’s a reason for all the yoga (beyond teaching some now). I’ll talk about it over Tea Friday. 😊 I do think that it helps my running, although it can be easy to overstretch with yoga, too. It’s why I like Yin Yoga — done right, you’ll increase range of motion but not overstretch.

  4. Beautiful pictures!
Do you mind getting on the treadmill vs. outside?
I was at the Formula 1 in Austin a few years ago, with a VIP box and all. It was the most boring weekend ever. My husband loved it, though! 😊

  5. My husband badly wanted to see Ford vs Ferrari but I resisted. I enjoy cars but not racing. I just didn’t feel like going out. I hope the storm goes easy on you. Just blah wintery mix here.

  6. I hope that the storm isn’t that bad. We got our first snow this morning and it’s been snowing and raining/sleeting off and on since then. Thankfully we didn’t a lot of snow but I hope that the roads aren’t too slippery tomorrow morning.

  7. I am sorry to hear about your Thanksgiving. It made me sad when you said it might be your dad’s last Thanksgiving. I haven’t seen that movie either. We spent Saturday evening watching several documentaries on Ayotzinapa. It is about the 43 students that disappeared in Mexico in 2014. It was very interesting!

  8. That eagle sighting is very cool! I never see ours up close, but I do see them flying every now and then. I often wonder the same thing about my Dad. His health is not too bad right now, but he definitely looks a bit more aged and frail than before. Yet, he was talking about taking a cruise with my Mom so that’s a very positive thing. Drama is always surrounding my family holidays. Ugh.
