Albinos, Painted Deer — What’s Next?: Tea/coffee Date July 2021

Ultimate-Coffee-Date-1-300x300

Thanks,  Coco and Deborah, I’m sitting here with my hot chocolate (whether it’s cold or hot outside!) and I have a lot of unusual animal sightings to share with you this month.

Photo credit Lloyd Litt. Albie. Yes, his eyes are pinkish!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I we did see the Albino squirrel again. He was hanging out in one of our pine trees grooming himself in a rain storm. Unfortunately Mr. Judy was unable to get good photos this time — although he actually went out in the rain to try!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you Mr. Judy also noticed a deer in our yard. The first time we’d ever seen a young deer in our yard was last year; we figured he’d gotten lost and we never saw him again. This was a doe and her adolescent fawn.

The interesting thing was that the doe had white blotches, kind of like a pain/pinto horse. I’ve never seen a doe that looked like that. They were running through the neighborhood too fast for Mr. Judy to take any photos, alas.

We joked what’s next? Bear? Tigers? Elephants?

Photo Credit Lloyd Litt. Seriously he looked bigger than any Robin I’ve ever seen. Doesn’t he look hawk-like?

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I was very excited when I saw this bird hanging out on top of the kennel. I thought maybe it was a baby hawk. My birder friend informed me it’s a fledgling Robin. Can you believe I’ve never really seen one? And he was big!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you that a long time ago I had wanted to try an Amazon Firestick (we don’t have cable) but never did buy one. We got the light version of it on Amazon Prime Day. It came with several free months of both Disney+ and Hulu. We’re almost set for the Summer now.

We watched Nomadland, which I’d wanted to see. It was slow, and although I adore Frances McDormand, I was actually rather shocked she won the Oscar for that performance. It was still an interesting movie and I’m glad we watched it.

We have started WandaVision (we’re big Marvel fans) — I’d heard so many raves about that show, and I’m enjoying it so far. I also enjoy that the episodes are short!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I still want to get HBOMax so I can see “In The Heights” before it’s gone (7/11, in case you were wondering). My sister didn’t think it was that great, but I still want to see it and I think there are other shows on HBOMax we’d enjoy. My sister and my cousin both recommended Mare of Eastown..

Seen some unusual animals in your neighborhood recently?

Anything to recommend on Disney+ or Hulu?

Have you seen In the Heights? What did you think?

  1. I usually see deer and rabbits when I run. There are also foxes around but I’ve tried to avoid them. There has been one that sits in the middle of the road blocking my path (this has happened twice in the last month so I run the other way). As for the TV stuff, I am not really into any shows and I don’t even know what we have! My husband just finds stuff for us to watch. I do know that I can pull up YouTube on the TV and search for shows for my son on there.

  2. I agree with you about Nomadland and Francis McDormand. Seriously, she could paint walls and win an Oscar for it. One of my IG followers is a van lifer. She and her husband are doing some amazing trips.

I loved In the Heights!!! My only complaint is that it is really long, so I watched it in 2 parts. But the talent is crazy good. Make sure you let the credits roll for the extra surprise at the very end.

    1. I’ve wanted to try one of the smaller RVs but my husband isn’t sure about it & he’s the mechanical one.

Thanks for the tip on watching through to the end! I haven’t signed up yet but I better do it before it’s gone.

  3. I thought In the Heights was great. And I loved Mare of Eastown. Probably the only two shows I’ve watched this summer. My hubby is the TV watcher. We have cable & HBO etc. I’m out there running, walking, hiking every night. (At least he does play tennis several nights.) I did buy Firestick but never used it (I wonder if it came with free disney+ and Hulu???)

  4. A fledging robin? Who’d have guessed? Not I! Love the albino squirrel. Several years ago we had lots of black squirrels around here. Now we have just the typical brown and grey ones. I can’t remember what we watch on Hulu or HBO Max. I can tell you I got Discovery+ as a Mother’s Day gift and it’s been disappointing so far.

  5. Wow, lots of wildlife your way! I’ve never seen a white squirrel! My dad would always make a big deal when he would see a black squirrel in the yard and make us all come to the window to look at it because apparently he thought they were rare. I realize now they are NOT that rare….lol. I’d love to show him an albino one!

  6. We have seen so many deer behind our house over the past few weeks. No clue if it’s the same family of deer each time, but it’s just odd because we normally see them a handful of times per year but we’ve seen them once a week for the past month.

I have yet to see an albino squirrel here, but I’ve seen a black squirrel once.

    1. Well I waited 59 years to see an Albino squirrel. 😊 It took 11 years living in this house before we ever saw a deer. Just not much woods here, although my sister lives in a neighborhood without much forest & they have deer there all the time!

I do know they can be a real pest, actually.

  7. I haven’t seen In the Heights but my husband has and he loved it. We’ve recently been streaming Peacock and Discovery+ (I get my fill of Bobby Flay on Discovery+!!!)
I’m loving the albino squirrel! I had no idea such a thing existed until you mentioned it. They must be pretty rare.

    1. I think Albinos in any animal are pretty rare. Makes them really vulnerable.

We have Netflix & Amazon Prime, and now Hulu & Disney+ for a few months. But I still plan to sign up for HBO today so I can see In the Heights & make my own decisions.

  8. HBOMax also has the Friends reunion, but I haven’t seen either yet. Do you have Netflix? I love Lupin there but don’t have Disney+ so can’t help with any recs.

  9. I don’t think I saw much of any TV in June (except for a few minutes of the news on occasion). We finally (like 14 months late LOL) saw the Last Dance (documentary with Michael Jordan and his era with the Bulls), and that was great! Other than that, I’ve seen a few episodes of Friends (Nick at Night)…sigh. That robin does look like a hawk!

  10. Mare was really good and her acting was phenomenal We would not have survived 2020 without every cable channel available! Ha. We have a ton of deer and fox in our yard. My husband is not a fan but I kind of like them

    1. I don’t know if my husband would be a fan if the deer started to mow through the flowers. 🤣

We’re ok with network tv during the year. Summers we need to find something else.

  11. Mare’s gotten good reviews, but I haven’t seen it. I also want to see In The Heights, but think it would be worth seeing in the theatre. I haven’t watched anything on Hulu in a while. I started the new season of Handmaid’s Tale but couldn’t take it. My husband loves Wandavision and all those shows, but he watches them without me so I get lost in the story lines.

    1. We watched In the Heights last night. I enjoyed it.

We both enjoy dci fi/fantasy so we’ve seen most of the marvel movies. But there are a LOT of them & they’re long! Even if you’ve seen them it gets confusing. Not everyone’s cup of tea. 🤣

  12. I just saw a deer at the back of my neighborhood this morning! The albino squirrel is really cool, too.

I liked In The Heights. I haven’t seen it on stage, and I had a hard time with Anthony Ramos as Usnavi, but they did a good job bringing the music to the screen. We just watched The Tomorrow War (entertaining) movie and we are also enjoying Loki (show). I really struggle with streaming – I used to just like to turn on the tv for sound, but now I feel like we have to make an active choice to watch. Nine times out of ten, I just leave it off.

    1. Power watched In the Heights last night & I did like it. I thought Anthony Ramos did a good job!

We’ve been watching Loki, too. It didn’t take long to get through the available episodes though!

I do NOT like the tv on for noise. My husband does. I make him wear earphones. Plus he wants the TV on much louder than I can tolerate.

You’ve had quite the wildlife sightings. We’ve had deer in the backyard recently but the bunnies have moved one once they got sight of our 113 lb German Shepherd 😉

  14. Whoaa! That albino squirrel is so pretty! That’s cool that you’ve been seeing so much wildlife. :] I saw a regular squirrel climbing down the side of my house this afternoon, but aside from that, it’s usually just the occasional crow + stray cat, hehe.
