Another busy week; mostly in a good way. Finally got to check something off my to do list that I’ve been struggling with for months. Getting that done, the RRCA course done, the First Aid/CPR course done — all those things were a big relief to me. Then the jury duty notice came in the mail yesterday . . .
I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, still juggling activity and helping out my mom — tomorrow I head back and will take her to a follow up visit with one of her doctor’s assistants on Tuesday. My brother is in town visiting her, so I’ll get to see him as well, which is always nice.

Running Update

Monday Intention: change of scenery
New shoes. Fall temps. My fastest run in a very long time that was also negative splits. I beat the rain, too! Tempted to run 4 but since I ran so littler mileage and was in new shoes — I wasn’t going there.

Tuesday Intention: recover
Back in the old shoes, much slower — but of course it’s supposed to be! Enjoying not having to get out early, Fall temps, and Fall decorations.

Friday Intention: go long-er
A beautiful (and busy) Fall day. Chilly — down to the low 40s when I first got up, but had warmed up about 10 degrees by the time I got out there. I was wearing my vest over a very light long sleeve top, and I worried I’d overheat, but with most of the path shady it was fine. The paces were kind of all over the place, but still faster all over the place with the new shoes. They sure do seem to be magic!

Saturday Intention: recover
Another beautiful day. Took Bandit for a walk and then went out for a 1 mile run, which was the same pace as most of my long run yesterday. Oops. Wasn’t wearing the new shoes either!

Favorites of the week
An acquaintance had won a 30 minute Yoga class with me way back in the beginning of the Summer. Between her schedule and my mom’s problems, it didn’t happen until Friday. She enjoyed it, I always enjoy teaching — but Bandit was barky so he had to be contained. I’m glad to get that off my plate though! Because of her patience I did a longer class than originally planned.

Loving the new Saucony Endorphin Speed.

Anyone know what this is? It was on my back window but thankfully not aggressive when I had to get into the trunk
ICYMI: It’s a really quick practice to keep your neck happy (yes, I know there’s a typo in the graphic above). Another short talk about why Yoga teachers put so much emphasis on a strong, straight spine.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: How long is your long run really? Then I’m sharing my experience with the online First Aid/CPR course, since quite a few people seemed interested in that.
Yikes! That’s quite a winged critter! Your new shoes sure are pretty, that’s got to part of their magical speed…right? Sounds like you’re enjoying the weather 🙂

I do love the cooler weather — and the fact that the mosquitoes have disappeared.
No idea what that critter was but live & let live, I say!

I think that she is a kind of wasp. I see a lot of them in my garden but they are not aggressive. I never disturb them.
I also enjoy this fall weather!
Beautiful shoes.

My husband also suggested it was a wasp. For me wasp + aggressive go together but she never even made a move towards me. I really don’t like wasps!

Hooray new shoes! I like Saucony but haven’t tried Endorphins. I need to go to the running shop to choose some new ones as I’m half-way through my only remaining pair of a model I know is OK … And I’m going to watch the neck video right now – I have a really stiff neck from going out early then being nervous of who was around and looking over my shoulder all the time!
Hope jury service isn’t too onerous – fingers crossed. I got mine for the week I started being full-time self-employed, but never got called for a case.

I have served on juries quite a few times (and I really don’t like jury duty). This one you’re on call for a month. You call in each week & they may or may not have cases. It’s not til next month.
I’m turning over in my mind whether or not I want to try & postpone it (due to my mom) or just get it out of the way.
Last time I had call in there was no case but it wasn’t for an entire month!

It’s always nice to cross things off your to-do list, especially things that you’ve wanted to get done for a while!
I love your new sneakers – those colors are awesome! I’ve been eyeing a pair of Brooks sneakers that I want for months but I’m waiting for them to go on sale first, lol.

These are an older model, so a de ent price but not fantastic. I really needed new shoes, though almost all of mine are way too old!

I love new shoes too, although the Mizunos didn’t really give me the new shoe feel (previous new shoes).

Is that one of those murder hornets?:p
New shoes always feel magical, don’t they?

News shoes are definitely magical! My husband thought it might be a murder hornet too. No idea. But it left me alone so I was thankful!

Yes- live and let live! The other day there was a large, scary looking black spider in the bathroom (eeek!). I managed to usher it gently outside. I don’t like spiders but after I captured and relocated I felt a little affection for it.
Anyway, sounds like you had a nice week and are enjoying the fall weather. But wait- jury duty??? Ack.

Spiders down south can be downright scary! But they do eat insects.

Glad your pretty new shoes are agreeing with you! The last time I had jury duty my kids were very young and couldn’t believe they expected me to find care for them. I was interviewed by the lawyers on each side and thankfully was dismissed.

I’m called for jury duty like clockwork & often chosen. Not sure why. I have zero desire to serve & can’t wait til I’m 70 & can be excused! Not that I really want to be 70/sooner.

You’ve gotta love magical shoes! 😀
I just got the form to fill out for the pre-jury selection process. My first thought was, “I can’t wait until two years from now when I’m 65 and don’t have to serve.” When I read that it’s 70 I almost cried. 😦

Well, it’s actually not a law, it’s up to the state. I filled out the pre jury thing in APRIL! And just got the notice last weekend, I thought I’d escaped.
Yes, new shoes are the best! Why are they so darn expensive though?

I think it used to be 65 in Virginia, but could be wrong. For whatever reason 65 was stuck in my head. Perhaps it was wishful thinking.

I feel for you, believe me. I’ll be on call for an entire month. I researched it a while ago, there’s actually no law but it’s up to each state.

I learned about them from your blog — thank you! I’ve only ever run in Saucony for Trail shoes before but glad I tried them!

Could someone PLEASE turn off the rain? I get to drive in it to moms today. Probably no stopping to walk but we’ll see.

Yikes on that winged creature – a wasp of some sort?
Yay for new shoes – always nice when they put some extra pep in your step 🙂

I’d love to get picked for jury duty. So interesting. But I never get picked.
Great weather this weekend. So happy.
My feet are very fussy. Sticking to Topos for now.
Hope the rain stops by the weekend for long runs and hiking.

Not in the least interested in jury duty obviously — have served on several juries. And my life is difficult enough to juggle as it is right now.

That fungus sure does look like gnomes! Interesting, I was told you don’t/shouldn’t need to break in running shoes these days unless you are making a big change. When I get a new version of the same shoe, I just go all in with it!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Generally I don’t need to break in shoes but this was a completely different shoe for me! Although with minimal drop (and these aren’t) you are supposed to break them in — yet I didn’t have to. Shoes can be strange.

I love seeing the fall colors and decorations! We haven’t gotten to the 40s quite yet but we’ve been in the 50s a few mornings so far. Feels glorious!
I love my Saucony Endorphin Speeds! Definitely going to be using them for some upcoming races and stuff, they are so light! I still like to train in my RIdes and Brooks Ghost, but I like to use the lighter shoes for speedwork and racing.

Those fungi are really neat. I don’t get to see that sort of thing here very often.
I love your platform. It’s so special that you got to teach a friend like that. Luna would have been super bark-y, too. She just wants to be included. In everything 🙂

I’m kind of surprised FL doesn’t have fungi! It has the right ingredients: humidity & rain!
Bandit wasn’t so bad when I taught inside but he wouldn’t stop barking outside so he had to be banished. Doesn’t make for a relaxing Yoga class!
