I apologize for last week. I had a bit of a meltdown. I literally felt like I was walking around with a dark cloud hanging over me. Things have been looking up this week. Mr. Judy fixed the dishwasher. The new phone got mailed arrived (today). I had two solo walk/hikes and didn’t get lost. I do not have to go for jury duty next week (three more weeks to go). Bandit’s heart murmur hasn’t progressed but we won’t get the results from his bloodwork back until next week and he has lost some weight.
Not to mention the abundant sunshine and mostly no wind this week!
I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and enjoying the sunshine this week. Literally walking on sunshine — yup, I went there. 🙂

Running Update

Monday Intention: recover + endurance
Woke up to a beautiful, sunny, windy morning but had errands to run. Lost the sun but not the wind by the time I got out there. Another speedy recovery run due to lack of walk breaks. You can do anything for a mile.

Friday Intention: easy
Who wants to see a temp with a 2 in the start of November? Sunshine and little wind (plus gloves, leggings, a warm coat, and a beanie) meant not so bad after all. Normally I’d wait until it warmed up but Mr. Judy had somewhere to be and I had to take Bandit for his annual at 2. A somewhat sluggish run, but not surprising it’s always exhausting when I’m at my mom’s, sleeping there and taking her to the doctor. I considered strides but decided easy was the word for this run.

Sunday Intention: go long-er and appreciate nature + fast finish
I wasn’t planning a fast finish when I started this run. The run was strong and relatively consistent. This is my kind of running weather! I decided on a whim to try to pickup the pace on the last mile — and yup, it was the fastest mile.

Favorites of the week
I decided to skip Olana and explore a couple of new places this week. Even South we’re past peak, but there’s still some color here and there. First was a short walk to the Saugerties Lighthouse.

Then Poet’s Walk Park in Red Hook, NY on the way home. Both stops added a little more driving time — which is why I enjoy Olana so much, it’s a perfect halfway stop on the way to my mom. You can see lots more photos on my personal Facebook page here.
ICYMI: Speaking of Olana, I filmed a short walking meditation when I was there a few weeks back.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday I’m sharing 3 things I learned from one of my best half marathons. Friday it’s five things I learned in my RRCA Coach course that surprised me.
Lovely photos! We’ve had temps with a 3 at the start which has felt sudden but of course I have had two weeks out of running. I’ve gone for getting out there, getting my confidence back and catching up with my friends – they’ve kept in touch of course but there’s noting like popping around side by side and having a chat.

I’m very happy that you decided to give running another try. Accidents can happen at any time (unfortunately). Hopefully another won’t happen!

I can’t believe you wear all those clothes. I would have melted. It was even colder yesterday but maybe it’s because I ran 12. I hat not knowing what to wear in this kind of weather.
I’ve been to both places and they are lovely. I am ok driving an hour or two if the hike is worth it.

I’m not sure I would drive to either just for the hikes. I think there are nicer places closer to home. But they were (almost) on my way.

I’m pretty sure I combined poets walk with Ferncliff and the lighthouse with falling waters. Neither is long enough by itself. Ferncliff fire tower is great as is falling waters

Went to Falling waters this summer. Noted fern cliff as I drove past it. But for me it’s just a way to stretch my legs because I’m on the road.

You would want to spend a lot of time at Ferncliff. Stopped Opus40 on my way home.

It may have gotten cold but at least all your views are pretty! Glad it sounds like things are improving a bit lately!

It was mostly a better week. Taking my mom to the dr is always draining. Fingers crossed no jury duty so I can take her to the next one in December.

I’m glad you had a better week. I didn’t realize Bandit has a heart murmur. Cocoa does, and they are very common in spaniels. Before her surgery she had to see a cardiologist to make sure she was safe for anesthesia. I am so glad she had that workup! I hope that the murmur doesn’t become a problem for either of our pups.
Love that lighthouse!!! I’m glad to see you’re exploring some new places too.

Bandit was dx last year but it’s only stage 1. Not worried about it now. Lola had one same stage & obviously that wasn’t what got her. We took her to the cardiologist & he didn’t even want to do an ultrasound on her (same one Chester went to so i trust him). Of course appointments are so hard to get these days.
Not sure what caused the weight loss though he sure isn’t eating less.

Sounds like a good week! It’s funny how a little more sunshine can improve most situations.
I’m wondering if you could get our of jury duty altogether if you explained the situation with your mom? I know last time I was there, a woman told them she was really worried about finding childcare, and they just excused her.
I’m loving your fall photos!

If I were my mom’s full time caregiver I could get out of it. But I’m not, thank goodness! I could’ve asked for a postponement but she’s only going to get worse, so it seemed best just to get it out of the way.
Sun absolutely makes everything better! And not have to wash everything in cold water & constantly mop the floor is a beautiful thing. 😊

Somehow I missed hearing about Bandit’s heart murmur. I’m so sorry… I hope you get good news from his blood work and that he quits losing weight.

Heart murmurs range from stage 1 to stage 6. Bandit’s is between a 1 & 2; I’m not very worried about it. Lola had one at that stage, too. It’s not what killed her.
I am more concerned about the weight loss, though. Other than that he acts completely normal. Still waiting to hear about the bloodwork.

I had a couple of runs with temps starting in the “2’s” also. Brrrrr! It makes a huge difference on the wind, and I had it for one run and it was MIA on the other. Glad you had a better week, Judy 😉

Aw, you never need to apologize. Life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. I’m glad things are looking up. I lover the fall colors you still found!

Well, we had one good week. And today started out well. Let’s just say it went south again this afternoon. Sigh.

I agree with Coco, everyone has bad days (or even bad weeks and months) and you shouldn’t feel like you need to apologize. I’m just glad this week is going better. That lighthouse bnb looks pretty cool!

I definitely believe in being real on the blog, but usually I try to sort of be positive. Got some bad news this afternoon, but hey, the dishwasher is still working & we had a lovely day earlier! Gotta try to look on the bright side.

No need to apologize, we all have those days/weeks. Glad things got better
Funny that the ligthhouse takes you out of your way, I saw it as a reason to never ever never take I 87 which, to be fair, is my default state.

I don’t mind 87 at all, but then I’m going back & forth all the time so for me it’s about the easiest, fast way most of the time. The lighthouse & Poet’s Walk are on the wrong side of the river & add at least 20 minutes to my drive. Olana is also on the wrong side of the river, but it doesn’t add as much time.
No regrets though.

I am so glad you’re feeling more optimistic. I sometimes have that dark cloud and it can be upsetting for sure.
I’m happy things are falling into place and you can enjoy the weather and your adventures a bit more.
