Running Update

Wednesday Intention: “taper” + foot turnover — remind legs they can go fast at the end!
Weather is looking good for Sunday but I’m still holding off on signing up. I ran 4.5 miles in the hood and man my legs felt heavy. The pace wasn’t horrible and I’m trying to ease off on intensity this week anyway. Then I picked it up for some strides to finish off the 5 miles. I do not expect a fast race by any means, but it’s good to remind the legs they can move faster.

Friday Intention: fast finish
Another day battling the wind! The wind seems to be winning this week! I ran easy for almost 3 miles. Then did pick-ups or a fartlek for roughly .75 mile in the middle towards the end, if that makes any sense. The first 2 miles were basically the same pace, and the last 2 miles were basically the same (slightly faster) pace.

Sunday Intention: it’s race day!
Yes, I wrote this subhead on Wednesday. I’m thinking positively. Yes, first RL race in 3+ years. Perfect weather!

Favorites of the week
Part of the reason I decided on this race was a friend (who didn’t run the race in the end) had brought it to my attention and my sister was out of town. What does that have to do with anything? My sister was taking a break from mom duty, and this race was somewhat on the way to my moms, so it allowed me to swing by and make a brief visit.
ICYMI: Yoga in bed seems to be popular, so you’re welcome! This is a short Yin Yoga practice that is aimed at relieving hip and lower back stiffness. Join me here.
Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday I’m sharing my race recap. On Friday it’s already time to cozy up to the runfessional!
Hope it went well! I can’t do yoga in bed as the cats, who are fascinated by any yoga/stretching, cannot resist joining in …!!

Of course it doesn’t HAVE to be done in bed, LOL! People seem to like these videos though. It actually is pretty much what I do before I get out of bed at the moment.
The race went well. Definitely not one of my faster races, but I wasn’t expecting it to be and was still pleasantly surprised by the finish time. Thank you!

I knew you would do this one!
Hope it went well. It was a little warm for a race but could be worse.
Delmar Dash was fun and I love a local race… the crowd was much smaller than usual. I think a lot of local runners had just run Boston, h2h or went to Brooklyn today.

I thought the weather was really good. And it’s warmer down there! Just those few miles can make a big difference — for instance, neither my mom nor my sister had any snow last week.

Oh, how fun! I definitely got FOMO cheering on the Parkway Classic today. I might have to wait to fall for an IRL race between my foot and summer temperatures!

We are much cooler, but Summer running isn’t really my favorite. Love the Fall races! And right now I don’t want to have to be inside before a race, either.
So this fit the bill nicely!

oh how fun! It is great that you were able to get back out for a race after 3 years. can’t wait to hear all about it

Looking forward to hearing about your race, too, Deborah!

Aha! So you did race! I’m looking forward to the recap. I’m planning a race for Mother’s Day and I’m doing kind of the same thing you are- throwing in little bursts of speedwork here and there. I’ll still be slow- I should copy your power card for that day!

The power card was perfect! I was definitely on the slower side, but that’s ok. Mother’s Day I’ll be with family, though, and I’m trying to avoid larger races anyway. I hope that you have a fun race! Nice way to celebrate!

It was nice to get back out there. A 5k was doable, leaving just enough time to visit with my mom briefly.

Can’t wait to hear more about your race! It’s been a long time for me as well. Yoga in bed is a great way to start the day!

I do a little Yoga in bed every day. Truly!
You are plenty busy enough as it is, Marcia, and if you feel the itch, you know that racing is always there for you.

Like everyone else, I’m also eager to hear how you did 😉 It does feel good to pin on a race bib and hit the start line, right?

I left that part out of my recap unintentionally — I have race belt with clips for the bib. Only one hole tore immediately.
So I just put one through a top hole, the other through a bottom hole. It looked weird but of course it worked!

It did! Luckily I didn’t have to deal with heat.

Three season week indeed.
Totally agree re: reminding our legs of what they should do

That power card was perfect for race morning. I think the best races are run when one is relaxed and not putting pressure on themselves. Heading over to read your recap shortly!

I think a little pressure can be good but I wasn’t really putting much on myself.
