5 Artists I’m Loving Lately

I had an alternative title for this post: throwing it way, way back. Let me explain. I’ve written about my adventures with self massage (throw in dry brushing, too). Using music during the massage and my showers.

I grew up singing in a choir and playing in bands/orchestras. I went to music camp. I still have my flute, but even if I wanted to play, it needs some work. I always have my voice though!

I’ve been listening to some golden oldies (for me) although we’re talking 80s & above, in general. It gets me moving! One thing I struggle with on Peloton sometimes is the music. I guess I’m getting old when I’m not as in touch with what’s popular!

I’m linking up with My First 5K and MoreRunning With Attitude, Runs with PugsZenaida and Run Laugh Eat Pie for Fit Five Friday. Today I’m sharing 5 artists I’m loving from the past — and in the present.

1: Cher
I can (vaguely) remember the Sonny & Cher show. I can also remember working out with Cher via VHS. Cher is timeless, #amiright?

2: The Bangles
Sadly the Bangles didn’t hang around for long, although they were more than a one hit wonder. I had their greatest hits CD and used it well.

3: Sarah Bareilles
We saw Sarah Bareilles in concert before she became well known. In fact Mr. Judy had no idea who she was (although I did), and was so sure she would be a one hit wonder. Many hits later . . .

4: Gloria Estefan
Am I the only one that remembers Miami Sound Machine? I used to listen to them all the time at work. Which is only going back 30+ years (for that particular job). Which is exactly how we saw them in concert, too — again, long before they (and Gloria) were well known.

5: Andy Grammer
Andy Grammer was one of our last concerts, just about four years ago. We had so much fun that weekend! Andy Grammer’s music makes me want to move and is uplifting, too.

Final Thoughts
What do all these artists have in common? They are almost all very upbeat and almost all have a danceable vibe (although some have more ballads). That’s not the only type of music I enjoy, but it puts a smile on my face and a wiggle in my hips. In the bathroom, anyway.

Who I’ve listened to since I wrote this post:

  • Whitney Houston
  • Meghan Trainor

Who are you listening to lately?

Music, podcasts, or both?

  1. love this Judy! I have an interest in all sorts of music, but admit I go back to my beloved 80’s and 90’s music a lot. I’m not ashamed to say I grew up with Sonny and Cher and can still belt out Gypsies, Tramps and Theives in my best Cher impersonation should the song come on the radio or tv 😀

Lately it’s been random playlists, last week it was Ibiza Dance Hits. Not ashamed to admit that yesterday I played *NSYNC because somehow I got a tune in my head and then had to listen to it. I think I frightened Ron by my dancing though…

  2. I used to run with music. It was a mix of new and old. Billy Joel and lady Gaga among my favorites. The upbeat songs do help with cadence.

I’ve transitioned to podcasts. This post reminds me to update my playlists with some new music to run with.

But at home and in the car I still play music. Again old and new.

  3. Oh, you played the flute! My daughter plays the flute now : )
The Bangles and Andy Grammar are on my running playlist. And of course I remember Sonny and Cher! It’s not on my playlist, but “Gypsies Tramps and Thieves” would make a good running song(i’m trying to think of upbeat Cher songs- “I Got You Babe” won’t cut it for running.)
Yeah, some of the Peloton music kind of sucks, in my opinion. But my kids would say that’s because I’m a Boomer (although I’m really Gen X, just to clarify!)

    1. Well, I am a boomer & I agree about Peloton sometimes! But I can usually find something. Then again I’m only doing a couple of classes a week usually.

Believe & Strong Enough might work for running.

  4. I absolutely pick my Pelo classes from the music. I’m similarly deficient in current pop music and love your list. You know I’m a country girl.
I haven’t done the Cher class but should really remedy that
