While I didn’t get a major reaction to the booster, it seems it’s not done with me. This week I alternated between feeling okay and not okay, but I got my runs in and also got an easy hike in as well. I am trying to catch the Fall color, but yes, it’s early days still.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner — and begging your forgiveness on being late to commenting. Again. Still. I will be gone most of the day today!

Running Update

Tuesday intention: a little speedy
This was a confidence boosting run. I did intervals (Peloton calls these tempo runs, but it really isn’t) and the pace was consistent for all 3 intervals and a bit faster than I actually planned on. Each interval was just 6 minutes. Mile 3 was significantly slower than mile 2 though (these were the two miles with the intervals), which I believe was due to taking longer walk breaks between those intervals. My walk breaks do tend to grow in races as I get tired — something to be aware of.

Friday intention: easy & go long
This was sort of a confidence boosting run, in that I haven’t run 10 miles in about 4 years (although I’ve done 9 miles here and there). Yes, it was way slow and positive splits, but in general it felt okay and the next day there was zero soreness. My knees didn’t hurt at all, but they did kinda let me know that I haven’t run this long in a long, long time so to speak.

Saturday intention: recover
Just one short recovery mile. Stopped at the free library in my neighborhood and picked up another book. This one mile run was faster than any of my miles yesterday, but 1 mile vs 10, and road vs trail. Which is not to say it was fast — and it shouldn’t be.

Favorites of the week
It was a busy-ish week, and my body wasn’t really happy that I didn’t rest more but it was one of those weeks where most of it had to get done. I actually did rest a lot, but Garmin kept telling me I didn’t — I’m relatively sure that’s still a reaction to the booster. However, I decided we’d go to Thacher Park (where I ran that trail 10k last month) anyway. Little bits of color there, too, but still not in full swing. I thought there might be more since it’s higher elevation.

It’s not really that hard a climb down to the base of these falls, but it’s harder for this short person to get back up. Maybe not the best idea before running you first 10 miler in years — but it went relatively well.

Always worth it to me though. These falls are basically in the middle of nowhere, right behind a pizza joint (really good pizza, wish it wasn’t about 45 minutes away). So far there’s never been anyone else there as I’m communing with the falls.

Coming up on Friday: Teatime conversations. Maybe I’ll get around to goals and wrapping up September on Tuesday — hmm, yes, I should work on that!
Those waterfalls and rocks look so beautiful! Great job on the 10-miler! I’m trying to remember my last 10-miler, LOL. I did a 13.1 in early June, and have had some 8 and 9-milers…but can’t recall if there have been and double digits. Things that make you go hmmm…

You have more cross training than I do with all your biking! I’ve done 8 & 9, but it had literally been years since double digits.

Congrats on your 10-mile run!
I’m sorry to hear that you had a reaction from your booster, even if it was somewhat mild. Here’s hoping you feel back to 100% soon.
Did you take the waterfalls pictures with your phone? If so, how did you get the water to look like that? Very cool!

It’s funny, I actually did take a real camera with me because if the waterfall in the park had been flowing we probably wouldn’t have been close to it. Anyway if you have an iPhone that takes Live pictures, afterwards when you edit you can change the setting from Live to Long exposure. Or Loop, which loops a short video.

Cool, thanks for the photo editing tip! I’ve done the loop, but not long exposure. I’ll try that!

Sorry the booster hit you so hard. Those rocks behind the pizza place are beautiful. What a fun find. Hooray for 10 miles. It’s been a minute since I’ve run that far as well.

There’s never anyone at those waterfalls when we’ve been there. Luckily I really like their pizza too!

Yay! Somehow a ten mile run feels like a milestone- I can still remember the day I did my first ten mile run, ever. Yes, the booster probably had an effect on you but it doesn’t sound like it’s keeping you down. You had a nice week, and I LOVE the photos as always!

Thanks, Jenny. It didn’t seem to have that much effect, so I probably didn’t rest enough. Still not anywhere near as bad as those first 3!

way to go on the 10 miler! Great photos.
Sorry the booster has you feeling less than 100%…I don’t think I felt anything other than a slightly sore arm!

I didn’t feel so bad the first week but this week I’m more tired but hey, I still managed to eek out 10 miles!

Nice job on the 10 miler! I attempted one today but my runner’s math messed me up again and I ended up with 9.25 miles, lol.
Sorry to hear you’re feeling off–I’ve reacted to my last couple of boosters but felt better within a day or so.

I didn’t have much of a reaction at first. It’s still not as bad as the first three. Just frustrated because I was finally feeling pretty good with more time at home but it is what it is.

That park does look nice! Great job on your long run! It’s been a while since I’ve run that long as well. This summer I was just doing shorter runs with the intention of building back up this fall but that hasn’t happened.

I know that you’ve been dealing with a lot, too. When the time is right you’ll get back up there! It’s funny, too — Portugal was never on my radar but I’m seeing it everywhere & it may be inching onto my bucket list.

Congrats on finally running 10.
I haven’t done hiking lately. Waiting until there is more color. And I’ve been running a lot to prepare for all my races.

It is a very pretty fall leaf!
Looks like a fun visit to the waterfall — I feel you on the challenging climb for short people!

I don’t remember it being quite so challenging when we were there before, LOL!

I’m sorry that you had some lingering effects from the booster shot. Hopefully all the “ick” is over and you will feel back to normal this week.
Love all the photos in your post. I’m so happy Fall is finally here 🙂

I think maybe because the reaction was milder I overdid it a little. But still not as bad as the other three!

I hope you are back to 100% soon.
