Alternate title: Baby Steps
My Garmin tells me I got enough intensity minutes this week. You know how you’re supposed to get about 150 intensity minutes, and if you run, even low mileage, you are way beyond that. I found it hard to believe that I had enough even before today’s run, but I’ll take it!

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and trying to lay down a base (again).

Running Update

Wednesday intention: run easy
It was a beautiful morning to run — just cold. Like tights and long sleeve top cold! I set out with no expectations and no real distance in mind. Ran 1.5 miles very slowly, and wasn’t at all sore the next day.

Sunday intention: easing back in
Warmer than Wednesday, but still a bit chilly out there. Also faster than Wednesday’s run — which is hardly to say fast, but I will take improvement. It didn’t feel faster. I am in no rush to get anywhere — pun intended.

Favorites of the week
I finally got myself to Pine Hollow Arboretum — I’ve been trying since last year. I met a friend there to catch up, but wouldn’t you know we picked a day when volunteers were doing work there? We enjoyed catching up and walking among the pretty flowers.
I was nicely surprised that my VO2 hadn’t taken a hit with this layoff from running like it did at the beginning of the year. And yes, I’m almost at the end of the antibiotics and feeling better.
Not such a favorite? The boil water warning we weren’t aware of until it had been going for almost a day. Oh well, I’m on antibiotics anyway. My travel tea kettle is working overtime boiling water!

ICYMI: In Spring we stretch/strengthen our hips. Join me and also release some anger/frustration here. If you’re short on time I’ve got a shorter Spring Yin Yoga practice here.
Coming up next Week: Runfessions. Wow, that snuck up on me. Can you runfess stuff when you’ve barely been running?
Glad to hear your return to running went well.
Pine hollow is disappointing compared to past years. A lot was destroyed. Ie. cherry trees etc. still nice to get in a trail run on the back trails.

Since I had nothing to compare it to I was happy to finally explore it.

It’s great to hear you’re starting to feel better. Sounds like you had some good running weather too. My VO2max always takes a hit when it heats up. Good times.

It was mostly a cool week here. Looking forward to a bit more warmth next week, although we’ll see how that jives with potential rain. And yes it’s definitely nice to be getting back to normal!

It’s funny (and hard to imagine) that you had such cool temps this week! It is full-on summer here, but that’s to be expected. Glad you’re feeling better and getting back to running. Yes, there’s no rush!

We’ve had MUCH colder Springs, so no complaints about the weather here! But it’s already too warm for Bandit, so it can be challenging juggling walking him with my runs.

Yikes on missing a boil water notice — glad there were no repercussions from that!
Glad you are feeling better. I wore long sleeves for a run one day last week, but for the most part it’s been t-shirt weather.

BTW we did almost get to freezing one morning last week, so yeah, we had a few cold mornings!

Glad to see you back to running! I hope that boil water notice was ‘an abundance of caution’ and no harm was done!

Well the boil warning was lifted yesterday. It really wasn’t so bad to boil my drinking water but trying to wash pots & utensils was a pain! A good reminder of the privilege we live in though.

Glad you’re feeling better and easing back into running. Taking it slow is a smart approach.

Easy to take it slow with nothing on the schedule. 🙂

Sorry to hear about the boil water notice, that’s scary! I am gradually moving my Vo2 max thing on my watch up back to normal, and am finally getting my activity minutes according to it up, too. Did 1.3 miles yesterday myself!!

Nice job, Liz! I bet you are already feeling a bit happier with the increased activity.

Eek! No one like a boil water notice!
I’m glad you’re feeling better. I love arboretums – the closest one to me is about 40 minutes away, so I don’t go often.
I would love some chilly weather!

Boiling the water to drink wasn’t so bad. Washing pots & frequently used utensils was a PITA. This Arboretum is 40 minutes away — it’s probably the closest one to me. There’s another that’s further away, I may have to drag Mr. Judy there soon. 🙂

I guess there was backflow. Wouldn’t even have known about it at all but a neighbor had posted something about getting bottled water & I was like what? They lifted it Sunday. We’re all fine.

Glad you are feeling better and you are back into running. No matter the speed.
This season is perfect to run (allergies apart) because we can enjoy the warm weather and the spring colors.
Very soon I will miss chilly weather!
Beautiful pics.

Luckily I don’t usually suffer from allergies. We have been having a very nice spring for a change!

I’m definitely still slowly baby stepping. 😉 Sometimes goals are great, sometimes it’s nice to feel freedom. 😉

I’m happy to hear that you’re starting to feel better. Even with volunteers working, I bet your arboretum walk was beautiful.

The volunteers actually didn’t seem to be working much where we were — it was just getting in & parking (very small parking lot)!

Isn’t that the worst when you find out about those water boil advisories afterwards?! But like you said, at least you were on antibiotics! I’m glad you are feeling better. Hope you are 100% now!
