What can I teach you?

Teach seems like such a simple word, but when I first sat down to write this post, I drew a blank. Can I teach you to run? No, I wouldn’t feel qualified, although no doubt I’d give you advice. Can I teach you to eat healthy? Again, no, I wouldn’t feel qualified, because what works for me may not work for you. Can I teach you how to run a great blog? I’m still trying to figure that one out for myself.

Teach: show or explain to someone how to do something

I looked through a few quotes, and found many that spoke to me, but none that inspired a post.

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
–Benjamin Franklin

My mom is having to learn all sorts of new things, and often it has fallen to me to teach her: how to use a glucometer, how to use peapod, and more. If only I could interest her in texting — it would definitely make my life easier.

teach

Can I teach you anything?
One of the reasons I started this blog was to inspire other people. I hope that I can teach you that no matter your age and your capabilities, you, too, can be active. Just because running has become my passion, doesn’t mean that I believe it must be your passion (although of course it does have a plethora of benefits — that was last week’s word).

Whether it’s walking with your dogs, yoga, swimming, lifting a few weights — as long as you are inspired to get up off the couch, I am happy.

I hope that I can teach you that eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring or tasteless, although it does require an investment of time.

I hope I can teach you that when you look good, you feel good, and you try harder.

I hope I can teach you that old dogs can learn new tricks, both literally and figuratively, and that training your animals should be fun for both of you (most of the time).

These are just a few of the thing I hope my blog teaches you.

One thing I know for sure
I hope that I keep learning throughout my life. I hope that when I am my mom’s age, I am still open to learning new things. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with my mom’s mind, she’s very sharp and very knowledgeable. But she is also resistant to doing things in new ways.

Perhaps it’s inevitable that we become that way as we age, but I hope that that isn’t the case.

What would you like to teach people with your blog?

If you don’t blog, what would you like to teach people?

Who in your life has been a good teacher to you?

  1. I love to be an example to people on how to figure out their own way to become healthy/happy and enjoy it as a life style. I can’t teach this though … as I firmly believe that motivation is intrinsic and the right approach would be more like coaching to help reflect. I also want to show how awesome plant based food is 😀
As bad as it sounds … I am my best teacher. Anything really relevant (i.e. what I make money with) is self-taught. However I am also training/teaching my clients about how to run a business or do tech … so to sum it up, it probably depends on the subject (what and who)?

  2. I have been lucky that almost all of my bosses over the years have taught me some very valuable things. Even the crappy bosses ! However, my parents are the best… they taught me to respect all people, have a very good work ethic, respect and treat your body well… the list is way too long. However, I have not taught them how to text either ! LOL !

  3. What an inspiring post!! I feel like I am always trying to learn new things as well…but technology is really a challenge for this right-brained art geek. I like creative, out-of-the-box solutions…not systematic only-one-correct-way solutions. 😉

    1. Funny, I am also creatively inclined, I tell Mr. Judy there’s always a solution frequently (except for the phone I have misplaced somewhere & still can’t find).

But I also tend to be pretty good with technology. Mainly because I’m stubborn, I think, and I just keep at it until I find the solution (at least sometimes).

  4. We just taught my mom to text. It’s fabulous, and still cracks me up every time I get a text from her.

Sometimes when I write my Wednesday Word, I guess what you guys might write about and this week I guessed that you would be writing about teaching your new dog to fit in with your family. 🙂

    Thanks for linking up!

    1. I would be more than happy to teach my mom. If only she was interested in it.

Someone suggested it for my Dad, who is very hard of hearing, but he’s also very forgetful and I really don’t think he’d remember how to do it. 😦

I’m always writing about how Bandit fits in! Today I had a pet sitter come in while I was out doing my long run & he did great.
