I was still feeling run down this week. In fact, more so than last week. Not actively sick, mind you, but like I could go over my tipping point if I don’t take it easy. So I did. I even skipped a run. And missed some speed work. And abandoned Pahla B for the week. And you know I hate missing workouts!
I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin and today’s guest host to share how I’m staying active this summer.

Running updates

Unfortunately I was feeling run down the beginning of the week again. RHR shot way up. Only this time, it was still up on Tuesday. It had come down to fairly normal today, but I didn’t get out there until almost 9 am. Which is far too late on a hot and humid day.
Still, I was surprised that the run ended up being on the upper end of my pace range for easy runs — and actually felt somewhat easy, until mile 3, when the sun and humidity had sucked the life out of me and I just wanted it to be over!

Thursday
I guess I just need to rename Thursday to Treadmill Thursday. Any day with a “feels like 90” — or really 90, for that fact — has me hunkering down inside. Although Thursday was actually a nice-ish day, I just can’t get my run on until the afternoon.

Saturday
The good news is the predicted thunderstorms never appeared. The bad news is the predicted thunderstorms never appeared. Seriously, of course I didn’t want a thunderstorm, but on a super humid day . . . a little rain would’ve been nice (not the torrential rain we had later in the day).
A solo run in the group. This would have been a great run if it hadn’t been so darn humid!

Favorites of the week
I converted another sole sister and she loves her Happy Girl skirt! You can use code save 20% on most Skirtsports with the code FWC20 — and new skirts and prints are rolling in, too.

The storm yesterday blew in great weathe for a hike, but I knew it was not in my best interest. However, the dogs still need to be walked, and I needed a few things at the close by pet store, so we took them to the park for a nice walk and a little doggy socialization.
Lola was not quite that well behaved around the cows — she was lunging and dancing and growling for all she was worth. She’s always been that way around cows. I imagine she’s thinking “dinner! I can take them!”.
And that’s a wrap
This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.
Let’s get the conversation started:
Do your furkids react to certain other animals?
If you run in a skirt, what’s your favorite thing about it?
What has been your most fun “activity” this summer so far?
I’m sorry that you were feeling run down this week. Hopefully next week will go much better for you!
I agree with you about the humidity. We actually got rain a few days this week but it made the humidity worse!

Last week was bad. This morning was nice & cool & low humidity! Hope it’s making its way to you.

I am so over the 90 degree days for this year! They really knock me out as well and leave me exhausted for the rest of the day. I am hoping this week is a little cooler

We haven’t gotten many 90 degree days, but a lot of “feels like 90” (in between the cool, drizzly days like today — although so far the rain has held off).
I hope you get some cooling off this week. We did & it’s nice, although I’d like to to be sunny & cooler — guess you can’t have everything, eh?

Ah, poor Lola. She can’t help her breeding! I have been wearing my Skirt Sport skirts all summer. I love patterns and grippy shorties underneath.

Hello, Lola is a lap dog! I mean, that’s what chis are bred to be! Bandit (who supposedly has some chi in him) showed no reaction at all. She’s always been that way about cows, though.
I’ve really been living in Skirtsports this summer! After buying them for like 7 years (long before I was an ambassador), I’ve almost built up enough of them. 🙂

oh my gosh – Lola is so cute! Sometimes you just have to listen to your body and slow down so that you can get back on track. Hope you have a much better week this week!

Thanks, Sara. I’m hoping this is the week I turn it around . . . at least I managed to get my speedwork done today.

Speaking of dog’s behavior…Max has changed (somewhat) in the past 2.5 years since he first joined our family. He used to bark and go nutzo whenever he saw another animal of any kind (especially dogs who were bigger than him). Now? He is pretty calm most of the time. He barks like crazy looking out the window at the dogs walking by, but if we’re on a walk usually he does the sniff thing and goes on his way. Usually LOL

Lola is still very reactive on leash, but she’s gotten a lot better — of course, we’ve had her almost 11 years!
Bandit has actually done quite well at the park the last couple of times. He can be super reactive on leash, too, but lately he hasn’t been too bad (of course he had about 8 years of almost never being walked).
He does pull like a son of a gun, even on a no pull leash. Working hard on that one.

When my parents lived in MA, they have wild turkeys in the neighborhood. Their tabby cat was acting like he could take them, even though they’re 10 times his size, with beaks and talons. He’d still lunge at the door and windows, trying to prove himself.

We’ve had wild turkeys out here, too, occasionally.
Gizmo has an outdoor kennel — he’s actually quite the hunter. Finally I wised up and don’t let him out until 7 am & it’s been a while since he’s caught anything. Thank goodness!

Sometimes we all need to just take a day or two off. I don’t usually feel guilty when I miss a workout but maybe because I’m not training for anything right now.
I love my running skirts because of the velcro pockets on the sides. I actually haven’t worn my skirts much this summer because even though they have compression shorts connected to them, I think the skirt part might be becoming a little short. Do you think that matters even though I have shorts underneath?
LikeLiked by 1 person
If you like the skirts, I certainly wouldn’t worry about the length of it. Just think of the short shorts people wear!
I don’t have great thighs, but I’ve been known to wear some of the shorter shorts, too.
I hate missing workouts, I really do, but I know when it’s necessary.

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling run down. Hopefully, the extra rest from this week will help a lot!
Your running shirt is super cute!

I meant running SKIRT! Though, your top is nice, too. 😀

Oops, I guess I should have read this comment first! That’s an older one that they no longer carry (although I wish they did because I love it!).

I looooove that top! I prefer that print, but I also have it in the gray one. The pockets make carrying water on those medium runs a little easier!

Wait. The top has pockets for carrying water? So cool!!

Well, it has 3 pockets similar to a cycling jersey. I carry water & sometimes fuel in them — you can put whatever you want in them!
I use 5 ounce water bottles and they stay put. It’s pretty awesome & I totally wish they came in more colors!

I’m a huge fan of racing in skirts but never wear them in training runs. I know…weird. My Mini goes nuts at the hawks that fly over our back yard. It’s a good thing she’s a little too big for them to swoop down and grab her!

We do have some hawks in the neighborhood, but thankfully they’re never done low enough for the dogs to notice. They could probably pick up Lola . . . no doubt Bandit would try to chase them off first. Right now he’s totally fixated on the baby rabbit that keeps coming in through the fence.

Nice job! Sorry to hear you’ve been so tired lately, but listening to your body and resting is most important – you still got in some great mileage for the week!
I wish I had a treadmill at home as a backup for those really hot days…what kind do you have?

My treadmill is old as dirt. Pretty sure they don’t make them anymore.
A lot of people recommended SOLE when mine was busted (and I really need to look into them!).

Oh Lola! Our cats definitely get their hunting eyes with all of the birds around our house, but surprisingly didn’t react we had a critter in our attic a few weeks ago which I thought they’d be going crazy!
I’ve only run in a sparkle skirt during a race – and it wasn’t my favorite simply because it was a bit too big for me so I kept having to adjust (really, I should not have worn anything new on race day!). But I’ve been looking at a running skirt more and more lately – maybe i’ll have to try one out soon! Thanks for linking up!

I love Sparkle Skirts, too, but there’s little more annoying in running in a skirt & holding it up! Thankfully I haven’t had that happen during a race, but I have had it happen on a training run.

I see cows and have to MOOOOO! Lola is funny, she just wants to play I bet LOL You had great mileage even if you skipped a run.
I have the run down feeling this week.
I am so hooked on my Go Longer shorts I have not been wearing skirts at all.

We always say “cow” when we see cows (from the movie Twister!). Kind of an inside joke, I guess.
I hope you feel better soon. I *think* I feel better this week — at least I got to run today! Trying to take it somewhat easy still (although today’s run was anything but).

Hope you have a better week this week. It’s good that you take a racing break. You are smart to listen to your body.
The summer is speeding by. I am craving the heat so late afternoon runs are fine esp since I won’t run on a tm.

Thanks, Teresa! Probably no hiking, most likely visiting my parents (plus a long run) but not sure yet.

Haha, Lola is brave around those cows. That’s a really great picture of her.
Meeps despises other cats, to the point I have no doubt he could severely maim or even kill one (like Sheba), but that’s the only other animal he’s been exposed to. I don’t have a clue what he’d do around, say, a puppy. But then again, he’s not very interested in the fish, 😂

It’s funny, Gizmo adored Simba (his brother). He was always the one to initiate snuggles.
Of course Simba was also the alpha and a terrible bully (maybe went back to the fact that Giz suckled on him when they were kittens).
So when Simba died, I was so worried. And you know what? Gizmo has been happy as a clam and never seemed to miss him at all. It’s been 4 years now. We never got a new kitten because I’m pretty sure Gizmo would have hated it (I made that mistake with my previous cat).

I tried introducing Meeps and Sheba, but they were both adults (Sheba adopted me), and while Sheba could care less, Meeps wasn’t having it. I won’t get Meeps a kitten as I don’t trust what he would do. He’s half Siamese and vicious. The worst scars I have are from my hot-headed Siamese, and I’ve had about 5 of them over the years. Although one of my gentlest was also Siamese, so go figure… But she was a girl. Boys are mean, lol.

We had a Siamese growing up — male — very sweet.
When Puss was 1 I took in Cleo (a kitten). Puss hated her til the day she died, and much like Lola, all Cleo wanted to do was play with her!
Oddly, the day after we put Cleo to sleep, Puss came into our bedroom early in the morning and yowled. And that was the end of that.

I get a lot of jealousy from my dog Wrangler towards the other dog Chips. Wrangle does not like me giving any attention to Chips period.
I have spent a lot of my activities this summer around water. I think that has been the most fun part, my good friend getting a pontoon boat. I’m very thankful for friend’s like you Judy who continue to participate in the Weekly Wrap despite my absence. 🙂

I’ve observed that when there’s 2 dogs, when one gets attention, the other always wants it, too. But thankfully they don’t seem to mind it — they just come running when they see the other getting attention! No idea how people with more than 2 dogs do it.
I am thankful that you ladies run the linkup, and have found a way to make it work for you. We’d all be very sad if you decided it was too much work — although of course we’d understand.
I’m sure a boat is a lot of fun!
