. . . Spring or . . . Snow????
Yeah baby, it snowed yesterday. Multiple times. No real accumulation, thankfully.

Running Update
Monday
I may often miss a Monday, but glad I managed to get out there this morning before the weather went South (or is that North?). It was a beautiful morning, but the clouds moved in, the wind picked up, and the temps dropped. Thankfully it was nice during my run, which was slow, but I knew that’s what my body needed today.
Thursday
Today was a beautiful day. A bit windy, but nothing too bad. I wasn’t quite sure how strides would work with nasal breathing, which still seems hard. I do my strides at the end of my run, sprinting from my mailbox to a neighbor’s fence, then pausing my watch and walking back to my starting point.
That walk back gave me enough time to recover from the harder effort — while still continuing to breath through my nose. Without the strides this run would have been on the slower side, but glad to see I could still incorporate some strides. A girl’s gotta run fast sometimes.
Sunday
I was really optimistic about this run. I just had a feeling it would go well. Unfortunately, it was a slog. I think my body was saying no thank you to running long today, but I still finished 6. Not sure why. I spent the last couple of miles in a sort-of fartlek. Maybe I need to go back to run/walk intervals until (if?) nasal breathing feels easier.
Favorites of the week
We mugged for the camera to get the photo above to use in the ecard I made for my mom today. Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate! Let’s just say it took multiple takes over two days, but since we don’t have any photos of all of us, glad we persevered.
Not quite as happy? I thought my mom could phone into my brother’s 60th Zoom birthday call tomorrow. Turns out you only get dial in numbers on a paid account — as far as I can tell. Let’s just say Zoom’s support docs leave a bit to be desired.
By the way, Zoom is also now requiring passwords for all meetings.
We haven’t given up, though. She does have a laptop. I’m going to try another test and see if she can actually manage to click through. She’s not tech savvy, it’s hard when you can’t see her computer while trying to help, plus she has a significant hand palsy. If she could manage it, then she could even see us!
Almost forgot to share our snow yesterday. I mean, it was just a dusting — although we had flurries twice more during the day. I have never seen snow here this late in the year. The good news is it’s slowly going to warm up next week — and it looks like maybe Spring will arrive — and stay.
To end on a happier note, I also taught a Yoga class to Running Buddies D&J yesterday on Zoom. They gave two thumbs up to the Airpods, which stayed connected well the whole time. Zoom also let us chat after for a long time, so win-win! I will probably offer to teach a donation based Yoga class for the Humane Society now that I can communicate effectively. I still need to test them out on FB Live, so I may be starting back there, too!
Real cards or ecards? I hate to slaughter trees for cards
Are you parents hopping on the Zoom craze?
How often to you go grocery shopping now? Every week I’ve been saying I really need to physically go to a grocery store. Every week I decide not to. Well, this week it was finally time. In fact, I went to two. I should be good for another month or so. Grocery deliveries are always an adventure — let’s just say substitutions can be interesting, and sometimes there are substitutions for no apparent reason.
Coming up on Tuesday: The topic is your worst race experience, but I went with my biggest race pet peeve. Any guesses? Friday I’ll a surprising benefit from good hydration. Don’t forget that Skirt Sports is selling off its inventory, so check out the sale here.
Still snow!! Wow! I really hope that won’t move over here.
I’m glad your Airpods worked well. It’s great for your audience to have good audio.
I love your photo for Mother’s Day! I think that’s the first time I got to see Mr Judy as well! ;-))

It’s very unusual to have snow this late in the year here. We were not pleased, but it also doesn’t stick around & we were still able to walk the dogs.

Oh the snow and silly sad pup
my mom is tech friendly but sometimes the basics just do not owrk. We wanted to FT for Easter but group FT wouldn’t and we had to go to hangouts, so today we went to Zoom which was just much much easier.

I was just playing around with what she’ll need to know. I am sure she could do it, and I know that she’s motivated — but not motivated enough to be patient with the process & herself. Tried calling to try to walk her through it, meanwhile I suggested they do the same for my MIL today & let’s just say that could be dicey, too.

I just finished a Zoom chat with my sisters and my mom and dad. I like it! I didn’t send a card-real or ecard. I just am not feeling at all festive these days.
This week we had lettuce substituted for spinach. Plus I ordered lettuce. Very odd.

I know, the substitutions can be really weird, but I’m grateful that it’s an option.
I went through the steps my mom would have to do on my laptop — I am pessimistic about her being able to do all that. 😦
Making the ecards (both for my mom & my brother) was fun!

You don’t need a password for ZOOM accounts. Only if you want to. (it’s the default) I’ve disabled them since my ZOOMs are not public. For a class obviously you would want them. I do the ARE ones on Zoom. Jan was there as well yesterday.
I LOVE getting real cards! Unfortunately most people do not send them just a few relatives and good friends.
I went grocery shopping 3x last week because I keep forgetting things. 3 different stores. Normally I’ve been going only once a week.

It may be because you have a business account. It’s only for free & basic accounts. When I set up a meeting I can’t do it without a password; not an option. And I did several today trying to coach my mom through it for tomorrow. I finally got her in, but it could take me the whole meeting tomorrow just to get her in. 😔

I don’t have a business account. It’s set it up with a password but in the settings I unchecked the Pwd required app box. I did a Zoom last night without a password. Doesn’t really matter. That’s great about your mother. My mil does even use a computer or a smart phone. She’s 95 and healthy. That’s all that matters. We visited her yesterday.

The weather was certainly kinda crazy this weekend! We didn’t get snow yesterday but tons of wind and it was very cold. I moved my workout indoors since I already packed away all my winter running clothes.
I hope that your mom was able join the Zoom birthday call for your brother, and sorry that the customer support wasn’t that great – that’s a bummer!

The Zoom call is later. She’s getting someone on staff to help, and I’ll be on call via phone, hopefully between the two of us we can get here in there.
She’s actually done really well with it, but it’s just super hard when I can’t see her screen. Sometimes I’m sure what she needs is there, but she insists it isn’t (until it is, LOL!). We’ll see how tech savvy I am at 92. 🙂

I totally understand about the tech support with your Mom. At my job I deal with a lot of people who are not tech savvy at all and it gets frustrating for everyone trying to figure stuff out. I do think that I have learned to be very calm and understanding over the years and can pretty much work with anyone now. Of course when I hang up the phone you might here me mumbling some strong words of frustration 😉
I hope you can get it figured out and your Mom can join!

Well, we practiced again today. I think I had started the wrong meeting, I got her all the way to the sign in & then it said the meeting hadn’t started. I’ve been starting like a million practice ones. Then the recaptcha had photos today instead of just the check box & she was a trooper & actually made her way through that (eventually).
In the end, though, I had her call the staff to see if someone can help he. Makes me a little nervous, but I know she really wants to be there, and I think that’s the only way it’s really going to happen.
Yup, I was very patient! I guess this was my mother’s day gift to her, I spent hours (literally) trying to help her with it.

If you have Chrome installed on her PC there is an unassisted mode to connect to her computer without her needing to do anything. But of course you have to get that set up first… but chrome also has a remote assistance feature that might help. Looks like very little set up on that part of it.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Is that Chrome browser, or if it’s set up as a Chromebook?
We were thinking about some sort of software to allow me to see/control her laptop, but obviously that’s not going to happen today. But maybe in the future.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yep, that’s exactly what it will do! It’s free, a plug in to the Chrome browser. I do that all the time for my Dad. He tells me the oddest things, then it makes sense when I see it!

Thanks! I’ll look into that. Luckily she actually uses Chrome.

We have not done the grocery delivery (not sure if that’s even an option in my “little” town. I know you can call in orders (probably email as well), and then do curbside pick-up. Since the hubby has been home so much, he just picks up the groceries as we need them. I wore one of my winter jackets last week, too…and I thought I’d not need that for a few months LOL

It sounds like a good week. We had snow here too! I’m really ready for summer. The kid’s teachers want us to get Zoom but I’m leery with all the things I’ve heard.

I can understand why you would be leery with the kids. Is it possible for you to supervise them? Although I’m guessing not all the time. 😦
I’ve never actually had any problems (we also used it for my yoga teacher training), but of course I’m not a child, that’s a very different thing!

That’s a cute pic of all of you! Neither of my parents do Zoom. I bought my mom a card for today then neglected to mail it with all the other chaos this week brought. The snow is ridiculous. I do think though that the seasons are shifting so May isn’t as nice as it once was. We had snow showers here today. Yuck. Love those magnolias!

My condolences on the snow — and more importantly your caveman. 😦 Hope he’s managing ok & not in too much pain.
My mom has definitely never zoom’d before, but this time she’s really motivated. It’s not every day your son turns 60. 🙂

The weather has been so crazy lately! Thats frustrating about zoom. It took my mom some time but now she has it figured out. We use facetime more when its just us though.
We do most of our groceries using a delivery service. Some weeks there are alot of things we cant get. My husband went out to store this weekend and even that was a challenge to find everything we need.

Yeah, it’s always interesting what is there — and what’s not. Mostly I can get what I need, though, so I’m really grateful for the delivery service!

I love your “family” photo – it really turned out well! I am a “real” cards person because I save them and enjoy looking at them. I go grocery shopping once a week, and it looks like I can start adding a trip to the Farmer’s Market to my list of outings. The weekend arctic blast was nuts! Next weekend it will be a heat wave.

I am so not a real card person. Don’t send them & don’t save them — although I still have the condolence cards for my dad, I imagine at some point I’ll throw them out.
Cleaning out your parents’ house (again & again) makes you a little less sentimental about things!
I do know some of the farmer’s markets are opening here, too. Not sure I’d really feel comfortable with it, though.

My mom doesn’t even have an email account anymore. She had one, said she was sick of the spam and stopped using it. She just texts and calls people now. Anything more would be way too much to ask of her. Last month I cut back on my grocery shopping to about once every 10 days or so.

My mom can’t text. She no longer has a smart phone, and while she did, I tried hard to teach her but it just wasn’t happening.

Yuck to the snow so late in the year! We had chilly temps and frost but no actual snow. My parents have definitely jumped on the zoom train, and my uncle called me to ask how to do a zoom call the other day too. That family photo is great 🙂

My mom doesn’t have a smartphone. She had one but it was just beyond her — mainly because she just wasn’t interested. We did get her on the call in the end.

Oh, gosh. I taught my mom how to use ZOOM. She needs it to help her client do telehealth appointments. It was an adventure, and I think she prefers not to do it LOL. She can text and Facetime though, so there’s that.
I still can’t get over the snow! It’s just insane!

Snow! Go figure with this crazy year we’ve had. I’m just glad we hardly had a winter, could you imagine?
Glad your yoga class went well, so cool! I used to do a Zoom yoga but I think it got canceled due to lack of participants. I use Zoom quite a bit but it’s still not my favorite, there always seem to be technical difficulties.
Does your racing pet peeve had to do with people who walk in big groups and block you when you’re trying to run? Just a guess – it definitely annoys me haha!

Ha – thanks for the shout-out and the letter. I think I’ve identified a V for when that comes, but now I can’t remember where I saw it! I have X and Z and Q and U ready, though! Today was J and I got annoyed that the one I wanted was covered by a sign.
It’s been FREEZING this week – it was + 1 feels like – 1 when I went out this morning (that’s in our temps though). Ugh.

I can’t believe you’re still getting snow. I really hope that Spring comes, and stays! I’d like it to do that here, too. I mean, we haven’t had snow but when you get snow, we get really cold rain. I’ll pass.
I appreciate the Zoom password requirement. Keeps the unwanted hackers out of meetings!!
My mom’s hopped into a zoom call a couple of times. I hesitate to say she’s getting the hang of it but I know my sister wanted to pull her hair out (her own, not my mom’s) while she was walking her though it. lol Stay positive!! She’ll get it figured out. 🙂

We did get my mom on the call with the help of a staff member there. The hardest part was when I’d tell her what to look for, and where, and she’d insist it wasn’t there. Until suddenly she noticed it. 🙂 I managed to keep my cool but it wasn’t easy, I admit!
It does look like Spring will finally be arriving up here — although we’ve actually had frost warnings a couple of mornings this week — it was 32 when I got up today!

Ugh on the snow!! I hope we don’t get any of that here. I use Zoom mainly to chat with family and friends. I am hosting one tomorrow with my cousins. For school we use Google Hangouts and Meet. I like it. I think my students like it too. I hope. 🙂 I think both real cards and ecards. I think since many things are electronic now, it is nice to get an actual card. My two cents.

I sorta agree on actual cards, but I also think it’s kind of a waste of paper. So I like that an ecard can still make someone feel special!
