Sunrise, Sunset: 11/9 – 15 WRD

As I go over in my favs of this week, there were amazing sunsets this week — and some beautiful Monet-like sunrises, too. No, I’m not outside to see them, although I’m beginning to think maybe I need to grab the patio heater to watch the next one.

It was another week with minimal movement. It’s funny, on Tuesday I had a great short run, and the next day I felt run down. I went from running in a skirt and light long sleeve top on Tuesday, to bundling up in a beanie, neck gaiter, jacket, and tights on Friday for my longish run.

Running Update

Couldn’t pass up running outside on such a beautiful day. Yes, that’s a tree decorated for Christmas behind me. I say whatever makes you happy in 2020!

Tuesday intention: Push pace a little
It was way too nice to run inside and I had no pressing appointments for once so I ran outside. In a skirt. Thank God I changed from the heavier Watch Me Go Top to the Cool It Top — I could’ve worn a tank top!

Basically the second half of every mile I threw in short bursts of speed, aka  pick ups, totally randomly. Then the last half mile did a set of 5 x 30ish second strides. Nice negative splits. The first time that I felt I had some energy in a long, long time. The weather certainly helped.

Cold & gray but a good run. I didn’t run with the gaiter pulled up, but my sunglasses would fog up when I had to pull it up because of other people on the path.

Friday intention: take it easy, go a bit longer
I picked a park closer to me this week. It wasn’t great weather, so I felt fairly sure that it wouldn’t be as frustrating as last week’s “long” run and I was right. There were still almost no one wearing masks, but I also didn’t have to run through groups of people 5 deep.

Beauty even on a gray day — you have to open up & look around you

I wasn’t sure if I should take another rest day or not, but this run went surprisingly well. Pretty consistent and a decent pace — best of all, my running outfit was prefect for the weather.

Sunday intention: recovery run
Cold and windy but the rain held off so far. Today I was happy to run on the treadmill. I took it very easy, and enjoyed my recovery run (even if the Peloton instructor mixed up Nutcracker for Swan Lake at one point; yes, it was set to orchestral music).

I actually had to filter this photo to get it to approach how it really looked,  but it was even more stunning in RL

Favorites of the week
This sunset (as seen from our deck). The sky was on fire!

Bandit isn’t usually a fan of the photo shoot but he cooperated & those ears!

We finally got the results back on Bandit’s cysts. One is just a lipoma, which is pretty common in older dogs (and cats) and nothing to worry about. The other had a few suspicious cells, but the pathologist felt there were few enough that it’s most likely benign so we’ll just keep an eye on it. So good news finally!

First chicken wings in the air fryer

Neither one of us likes Buffalo wings, but Mr. Judy does enjoy roasted chicken wings. I’d been wanting to try these out in the air fryer for a while. In fact, I did the whole meal: wings, cauliflower, and fries, in the air fryer.

I had to use two oven racks, as you don’t want to crowd stuff in the air fryer. I put the potatoes below the wings intentionally so they would soak up some schmaltz (chicken fat). It worked beautifully.

Yummy final results

Because Mr. Judy likes his wings crunchier than I do, I put his in first. He was happy with his. I’m not particularly fussy about it, but mine could have used some more time in the oven, too.

The first carrot I pulled was a carrot nub; a few weeks later a real carrot

I didn’t cover the carrots last night, though, and we had a hard freeze. They still need a bit more time. Hopefully I didn’t freeze them all.

Do you have an air fryer, or have you considered one?

Are you a fan of chicken wings?

How’s running going for you right now?

GWY Yin Yoga for Calves

ICYMI: I’m showing my lower legs some love this week. This will get into your feet, ankles, hamstrings — and especially your calves. Because I have really tight calves! You can find it here. It is a longer practice, but I also spend some time demoing several options for a pose towards the end; so it’s not as long as you think it is. If you have tight legs and feet (and what runner doesn’t), this will help you.

Coming up on Tuesday: I’m jumping ahead on the Tuesday Topics linkups and sharing why I’m still grateful for running in 2020 — kind of a rebuttal to my own post this week on whether or not I will ever run another half marathon (which you can read here). On Friday I’m talking about recovery hot chocolate, my simple recovery hot chocolate recipe — and sharing some of my favorite healthy hot chocolate mixes.

  1. I am kind of obsessed with my air fryer these days too. All the veggies taste so good in there. That is a stunning sunset. Winter sunsets can be so pretty as well. I feel like I have to maximize my time outdoors right now. Thanks for linking up

  2. I think we are the only people who don’t have an air fryer, lol. I just don’t see it as something we need. Mike makes wings and they are pretty good, just messy! I’ve been baking chicken thighs in a variety of sheet pan meals, which is always a hit.

Both of my cockers prior to Cocoa had lipomas. Cleo had quite a large one that we had removed–it became large very quickly.

    1. Mine is a toaster oven/air fryer combo. We needed a new toaster oven & I wanted an air fryer. Win-win. My instant pot makes the most awesome chicken thighs!

I had a Cleo (a cat) & I had to drain her lipoma weekly! It was always a shock how warm the liquid from it was. I mean, it’s obvious why but somehow I never seemed to expect it.

  3. I love a good sunrise and sunset! Though I don’t get to see many anymore since the time change has me leaving work after the sun sets and I’m not running yet so no sunrises either haha. Hope I’ll be back to running soon, then I’ll get to see them again!

I do not have an air fryer but I’ve heard awesome things about them and intend to get one soon! I have an instant pot and LOVE that.

I’m an early riser, so I often get to see sunrises. From inside. 🙂

  4. I don’t have either an air fryer or an Instant Pot, call me “Very Late To The Party” LOL. An air fryer does seem like something I’d use, more than the IP, at least. Glad to hear you got some good news on Bandit 😉 Our weather turned wickedly cold this weekend…UGH! That warm weather teaser (two weeks ago) was really cruel…

  5. The sunset this week was amazing. Unfortunately I am always driving so I couldn’t take any picks.

Nope. I’m not big and buying things for cooking. I use my frying pan a lot and it works fine.

I can take or leave chicken wings. I only eat them out when we order them as a group for an appetizer.

I ran in a skirt at the beginning of the week but today it was in the 20s and sleeting when the race started. Believe it or not, there were plenty of shorts worn.

Sunglasses and a mask are a problem. I wear both when I drive (and have another person in the car) and I have a hard time seeing because my glasses fog up…grrrr.

    1. Beanie hasn’t been a daily thing yet — but looking forward I think it will be.

NYC are tiny! There’s actually a lid for the IP that makes it an air fryer, too. I was very excited about that until I read the reviews. Not so great. Too bad that’d be awesome!

  6. I’m glad all the food came out great! I’ve done chicken breast and wings in the air fryer before and I love the way they both turned out. It’s such a great appliance because it can do so much!

That’s such good news about Bandit an I love that photo of him 🙂

  7. How cool on the carrot. My daughter had a bumper crop of potatoes – so delicious that fresh! My iPhone doesn’t capture our neighborhood sunrises very well but does well with other sunrise views—maybe it’s the trees? Glad Lola’s tests weren’t a concern.

  8. I love your air fryer that is also a toaster oven. I have a regular one and am wondering if I need/want the combo one.

I like chicken wings but they’re not my favorite. I’d rather get the boneless ones.

That is great news about Bandit!

    1. Well, I don’t think anyone needs an air fryer. 🙂 I knew I wanted one, I knew I didn’t want another standalone gadget, and we needed a new toaster oven.

Chicken wings aren’t my fav either, but Mr. Judy really likes them.

  9. That sunset is beautiful! There have been some amazing ones lately – I keep saying I’m going to return to my early morning runs to catch the sunrise but it hasn’t happened yet.

We do have an air fryer – like yours, it’s an all-in-one type. I honestly don’t use the fryer feature much but my son loves to make french fries with it 🙂

    1. I use the air fryer a ton! And of course all the other stuff. It’s really big, too, which I’m loving — I bake quick breads in there & made some muffin bars in an 8 x 8 pan too. Of course those are baked. 🙂

  10. So much yoga! Great job!

We do have an air fryer and we use it a lot. The boys love wings, and have them probably once a week. I don’t prefer meat on the bone, so I am not as excited. We just did regular and sweet potato fries, buffalo cauliflower, roasted broccoli, and all kinds of things. Mr PugRunner gets really into it.

    1. I’m not a huge wings fan, although I don’t dislike them either.

Oddly enough, so far, my sweet potato fries were the one big fail! I’ll need to work on it. The cauliflower does come out awesome.

  11. When my toaster oven goes, maybe I’d consider an air fryer but for now I don’t want another appliance. I’m not a fan of chicken wings and heck the Caveman won’t eat poultry at all. Great new on Bandit!

    1. I hear you on not wanting a new appliance. And on the chicken wings, too. I don’t mind them but they’re really not my thing. I don’t plan to make them a lot.

I do plan to be roasting a whole chicken in there soon though — luckily if it’s protein, pretty much Mr. Judy will eat it. It’s the veggie stuff I have trouble getting him to eat.
