Our windows steam up quickly with the very cold air we’ve been experiencing, often turning to ice crystals as I shared last week. Meanwhile I’m quietly over here, steaming away at running, Yoga, and working on a little Yoga Spring reboot. Because yes Spring actually is coming!

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and sharing my running and a productive week.

Running Update

Wednesday Intention: get some fresh air
I do run on cold days. On cold, extremely windy days even. Sometimes, anyway. Today was one of those days. My energy is rebounding, thankfully, so I headed out on warm-ish day (low 30s) that unfortunately had wind that was even higher than had been predicted. It was definitely tough, but I survived and we even got Bandit out for a short walk later in the day.

Friday Intention: take it easy
I think I should have run inside on Wednesday and outside on Friday! It was very cold (barely any degrees) this morning, but sunny and little wind. On Tuesday it was 20+ mph winds. I didn’t sleep well Tuesday night, either — I knew I needed that rest day on Thursday.
I woke up this morning, after a good night’s sleep, feeling much better, but this treadmill run still felt really hard. I walked more than normal and my pace was deliberately slow. I guess some days are just like that. The treadmill usually feels harder, but not this hard.

Sunday Intention: still easy + hills
I warmed up with a 10 minute Elton ride, which I really enjoyed. This was the best run of the week! Not fast, oh no, but not bad considering the cold and extremely consistent with the last mile the fastest. I didn’t set out to do hills, in fact I was going to avoid them, but then I thought I’d run in solidarity with Darlene’s (and Cari’s) hilly half today. Just not for 13.1 miles. 🙂

Favorites of the week
I am grateful for Mr. Judy’s help in filming this week’s videos. I think we filmed at least 6 of various lengths. I’m using the “good” camera, not my Ipad, hence Mr. Judy’s help. It’s nice because it records audio well without me having to wear a mic.
It can only record for about 25 minutes before it shuts down, though. Otherwise I might learn to do it myself because the quality is better, although the tradeoff is I always feel as though I’m rushing through so I don’t get cut off.
Other than that it was a relatively quiet week. I did make an effort to cook and eat a little bit better than I have been — not that I’ve really been eating badly, but relying too heavily on frozen or prepared food.

ICYMI: This week it’s all about your adrenals. They’re tiny little glands, but they play an important part in our stress reaction and can easily get overwhelmed in our modern day life. I explain a bit about them in this week’s short vlog, and then there’s a restorative practice that will help to nourish your adrenals. I might be doing this practice later today . . .

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday it’s a quick review of the Iphone Photography course I took. Friday it’s time to cough up some runfessions; even with a new year and less running, I’ve got a few to share!
treadmill runs always feel so much harder to me! Glad you got to get some fresh air this week cute smowman. It’s nice your hubs films for you. Mine is not so willing!

Well, I don’t ask him a lot. But yes, I thanked him for helping out. We’re not done yet, but after tomorrow, I’ll take a break & be back to filming with my Ipad.
Treadmill runs do feel harder, but this felt way harder than normal.

That was nice of you to run hills in solidarity with the half marathoners today! I’m sure our runs were a lot easier than theirs. i love the full moon picture and am looking forward to the post about your Iphone photography class. Glad you had a quiet week! Quiet can be good.

Oh, I KNOW my run was much, much easier. It was only a 5k give or take. 🤣

Love that full Moon photo! Your warm day is our coldest day – I don’t know how you cope, seriously!

Thanks, Liz! Well, weather is always relative & you get used to it. I’ve lived in very hot places & places even colder than here. But it may explain why I l8me having a treadmill. 😊
And when we move it will almost definitely be a bit further south!

It’s rare that I run on the TM–I just feel like being out in the cold is good for me, physically and mentally! Glad you are feeling better. I’m interested in that restorative class and will check it out this week.

I am just not a cold lover. We’re all different.

When you say you are recording videos, does that mean you are recording Yoga classes? I recently took a Body Flow class where we did Yoga and I really enjoyed it. I wouldn’t mind taking your class.
Stay warm up there.

Yes, lots of Yoga classes! Most of what I’ve been recording lately won’t be released until March, but I have new videos up weekly!

Lots of treadmill time for me this week as well since our roads and trails are in really rough shape (plus the -12 temp wasn’t very tempting.) I’m ready for spring! The snowman is great!

We had a few negative mornings, but luckily our temps aren’t quite as extreme as yours. But the wind! Oy!

Thanks for the support. Cari was just a spectator. And a cold one.
The cold is wearing on me. But as Wendy says I think it is healthier to be outdoors. At least that’s what I tell myself.
But it’s still January. More cold weather to come sigh.

The cold always wears on me. And I don’t actually feel it’s always healthier for me to be outdoors, although I am outdoors most days.

Sorry that a few of your runs felt hard this week but so happy to see that you ended the week with a good run! Sometimes my brain is in the mood for a great run, but then my legs say otherwise, lol.
The cold and the wind was fierce this week. Sadly I think February may bring the same type of weather 😦

February is usually the worst month of Winter, but the only way out is through!

Sounds like a great week, despite the freezing temperatures. I, too, love the snowman and full moon photo.

Wow on the steamy/frosty windows. Our weather isn’t that extreme. I’ve still been opting for my tread though, but I’m trying to talk myself into an outdoor run tomorrow. I know I’ll be OK once I get out there. In winter that really is the hardest part! I don’t decorate for Valentine’s Day, or any thing other than Christmas, really. Oh, and Halloween I guess.

I don’t decorate for anything.
When it’s really cold the entire window steams up; it did earlier that day but I didn’t have my phone on me. Sometimes when I make soup the bay window steams up!

The moon was magnificent this past week. I didn’t even attempt a pic because mine never come out. How nice of you to run in solidarity with our half marathoners!

We actually had a lot of cloudy nights so the moon was often missing!

It’s so hard getting good pictures of the moon. It looks beautiful sneaking a peak from behind the trees. I can’t wait to read your recap of your photography class tomorrow.

It was definitely a challenge to get a decent photo of the moon! The course actually did help me to get better moon photos.

The cold weather can definitely be draining, but I’m glad you ended the week with a good run. I’m afraid February could be more of the same. Still, I’ve been trying to keep my mill runs to a minimum because it messes with my gait.

Oh, my birthday is in February. It’s the worst month of Winter. I was almost born in the car due to a snowstorm (and the fact that I’m the youngest).

Treadmill runs are always very hard for me but sometimes, when outside the weather is brutal, it can be a solution.
Glad you could run at the end of the week.
On the latest days the sky was not cloudy so we could enjoy a wonderful full moon and sometimes during the morning too.

That’s great that you had an unfettered view of the full moon! We are often very cloudy, so sometimes it plays hide & seek.

So happy you ended the week with a good run! And well done for running in solidarity with Darlene and Cari!

I don’t think it will ever be spring LOL! Florida has gotten hammered by cold this year, and it’s been rough. We just aren’t prepared.

Well, it’s only January after all. Although we often don’t get Spring here, often we move right into Summer.
