Winter Arrives: 11/14 – 20 WRD

I should have titled this “spinning my wheels), because it felt like a busy week, but there were many things I didn’t get done. I (personally) find it really hard to be as productive in the shorter days.

Running Update

A gray run that went well

Tuesday intention: take it easy
No, I wasn’t running in the dark — it was just cloudy and the sun was behind the trees. This run was negative splits and despite the chill in the air felt really good!

I think the deer knew what was coming & wanted in!

Thursday intention: strength + speed
Let me be clear: that wasn’t the intention until I started to run, and decided to do some hill repeats since snow was in the forecast. Still in recovery mode so slow and easy.

What I couldn’t capture was the canal starting to ice up

Saturday intention: a shorter long run
We were forcast to get about 1-3 inches of the white stuff this week, but it was only about an inch and it didn’t stick around (although we have a dusting again this morning). I decided to explore a trail off the mail trail at this preserve. I scared off a couple of deer. This was a more technical trail and it had gotten cold overnight, so I took it very easy.

Not much to see back there (it’s not the canal above, although I did run along that after) — I kept hoping it would connect with the main trail so I wouldn’t have to run slowly back on it, but no luck. Eventually, but I wasn’t running that long today. I was just happy that the trail was still an option today.

Cold but pretty sunrise

Favorites of the week
It felt like I was really busy all week long — and I’m not even prepping for Thanksgiving since we’ll go to my mom — yet there was just so much I didn’t get done. We did watch “Where the Crawdads Sing” yesterday. I’d listened to the book, which I really enjoyed. I think the movie was good, but as often happens the book was better.

The Winter like weather this week — not a fan. But you can’t change Mother Nature. The other thing I didn’t like — totally my own fault? I wore some boots to do grocery shopping on Friday. I was trying to decide if I wanted to donate them or not. They’re so cute!

Not cute? The pain on the side of my foot later in the day. I massage it with oil Friday and Saturday morning and thankfully the run seemed to help and it’s all better now. Yup, I’ll be donating those cute booties!

ICYMI: Can you show your stomach some love? It works hard for you! Let’s do that today — flow with me here, Check out this short guided meditation to love your body here.

Coming up on Friday: OMG! It’s Runfession time! I runfess that snuck up on me.

  1. Love your tree photos — they look so pretty.

Good call on the boots. I usually choose comfort (or at least no pain) over fashion, but there are some dressy work shoes I struggle to part with even though I can’t wait to get them off when I get home.

I hope you have good weather for your drive to your Mom’s!

  2. It sounds like your runs are going well as you’re easing back in after your race. 🙂

There was snow piled in the space where my Jeep’s hood meets the windshield on Thursday morning when I left the farm. Luckily the roads were fine, but I’m so not ready for snow.

Safe travels on Thursday when you visit your mom!

  3. I know- runfessions snuck up on me too. This month is going by crazy fast!
I know it’s hard to run in, but the snow photo is so pretty. I also love the sunrise!
I’ve turned into the most un-stylish person ever, and wear running shoes EVERYWHERE. My difficult foot demands it, and I’m not going to argue.

  4. Well that’s a bummer on the boots! I’m all about “fashion before function,” but sometimes that’s just not a good strategy. Our snow has stuck around all week, but it’s gotten spotty. We’re supposed to have above-freezing temps most of this week, so all the white stuff should be gone well before Thanksgiving.

  5. Glad you missed the bulk of that snow that fell out your way. We had days of flurries but it’s all mostly melted and now that it’s super cold, the remainder is just blowing around. I need to follow your lead and do more closet purging. Lots of cute shoes I know I’ll never wear!

    1. It helps that I finally found a place nearby where it’s relatively easy to donate stuff (when I remember).

We have another dusting this morning, but yes, so grateful that we didn’t get what they got in Western NY. Occasionally we can get a big storm around Thanksgiving, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that big — and I never want to!

  6. Winter definitely arrived here and as luck would have it, my furnace also died. It’s been around 54 degrees downstairs, even when it dipped into the 20’s last night so it could be worse. I guess this kind of thing always happens during the worst of times. They needed to order the unit so I’m still waiting but hopefully it will go in soon! Fortunately we still have heat upstairs, it’s just the downstairs that’s freezing.

  7. I know exactly what you mean when you say “spinning your wheels”. I definitely have felt like I check off things on my “to-do” list but yet still have so much to do, lol.

We haven’t gotten any snow here yet, but we’ve had some pretty cold temps lately. I’m good with the snow holding off for a little bit longer.

  8. I don’t miss snow…yet! I’ll get my fix on a ski trip, vs. every day, thanks (though we get plenty of rain here of course, but I don’t mind the rain.)

The short days are hard this time of year, aren’t they?

    Happy Thanksgiving Judy!
