I’m not sure if it was just things catching up with me, the travel, the stress, or all of the above, but I felt a little off for most of the week. Nothing serious, pretty sure I’m not really coming down with anything, just my body telling me it’s time to respect it a bit more and err on the side of caution.
With another half coming up in just five weeks, I felt like I really needed to jump back into fitness in a big way. My body had other ideas, but I still had a pretty solid week.
This weekly recap is brought to you by the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin who are dedicated to connecting active women with each other and supporting one another. So check out some blogs and prepare to be inspired!

Running updates
Just a short easy run. With a few short hill repeats added. Even though my next half is flat, hill repeats work as speed work, too.
Thursday
The forecast was for snow turning to rain. Yeah, not so much. It started snowing around 10 am, by afternoon it was sleeting — and the snow even stuck around overnight (but thankfully melted — eventually — the next day). All told we actually got about 1″; maybe a bit more.
So I took to the treadmill for a tempo run. I even calculated my run/walk paces using this website. It actually felt somewhat easy, but, treadmill.
Saturday
I did not get a runfie Saturday, mainly because it was an off and on cold rain. I did 2 miles on my own to begin with, in a very steady, fairly heavy at times, cold rain. Such fun. Not! It was in the 40s, so at least not sleeting or snowing, and I was thankful I was able to get a long run in.
Of course the previous day, while cold, was quite nice — but I couldn’t get someone in to let the dogs out, and I had plans to go out for brunch after the run. While Bandit could be left that long, it’s still hard for him (separation anxiety).
Today it’s also supposed to rain, but not until the afternoon supposedly. So today wouldn’t have been too bad for a long run, either. Sometimes you just have to suck it up buttercup.
After those first 2 miles I met up with a friend to complete the last 6 miles; I fully expected her to bail on me but she was a trooper and came and we had a nice run together — it still rained off and on, but it was mostly off.
As usual, those 6 miles with a friend were much faster than the first 2 miles on my own. It’s part of why I prefer running with a friend — it always makes it seem easier.
It’s been a mostly quiet week with not a whole lot going on. After everything that has been going on in my life the last few weeks I was very tired and feeling kind of meh. I had originally planned a recovery run for today but decided that I needed rest more. I’m getting much better at respecting my body — it was a good word for 2016 and now it’s time to start thinking about my 2017 word!
I went out for brunch with my running buddy after our run. I basically haven’t seen my friends in a couple of months so it was great catching up with her. And running with her.
I didn’t even get anything sweet — although I was definitely tempted to!
I did have a couple of cookies later on (healthy ones I’d baked). And I’m baking up a storm today — the breakfast/snack bar here was getting pretty bare! The no bake protein bars above are really good and pretty easy to put together (they’re on my protein bar board on Pinterest).
And that’s a wrap!
This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.
Let’s get the conversation started:
If there’s a blogger meetup at the NYCMarathon, I’d love to be there. I’m pretty sure I’ll be wandering around the expo for hours on Friday . . . lemme know!
Would you bail on a friend if the weather was nasty (but not dangerous)?
Favorite way to warm up after a cold run? I feel chilled for hours, usually!
Snow!!?? That’s crazy. I’m glad it didn’t stick around long. Connecting with running friends is so comforting. I’m glad that you had a good week. Do let me know if there’s a blogger meet-up. I’d love to try to connect…

Snow in November is not usual (but not very welcome). Snow actually sticking in Oct is unusual — definitely not welcome — thankfully it’s warming up a bit this week.
You should have great marathon weather — at least it’ll feel cool to you — why do they start the damn thing so late, tho?

Hopefully the weather will stay good until race day. I wish it wasn’t so late either but that’s what we get for being average and not elite!!

In my book no marathoner is average. 🙂

It sound like a nice quiet week or two is just what you need! Meeting with friends is good, and running for fun. Recharge your batteries😊

Too bad about yesterday’s weather. At least you got to see Jan.
I could have used you to drag me through my miles today. The weather was great but I was pooped. Tough week. Good thing I didn’t commit to it since you didn’t run.
Nope. I hate rain. But I would never bail on a running partner.
Hours in the expo? Not me. Just grabbing my bib. I would be tempted to buy if I ran the marathon. Besides I don’t to add anything to my luggage.

I haven’t been to a proper expo in YEARS — you just never know what you might find.
All of my races have been super small the last few years, rarely an expo . . . I might pick up my bib and then shop after the race . . . don’t know, we haven’t nailed anything down yet.

Mine too. Only large expos I’ve ever been to are this one and Philly. I haven’t nailed anything down yet either. It depends on Anna. I may run back to my hotel through the park after I eat (post race). I have to get my bag.

I don’t think I’ll be looking to do extra miles–all depends what I get done tomorrow.

Really just going to play it by ear. I don’t care if I miss a long run. I won’t get in a run on Thurs or Fri. Either. Will try to run tomorrow at UAlbany.

I would not bail on a friend. Taking a warm/hot shower usually warms me up.

Oh no! Too early for snow… isn’t it? I’m sure you’re feeling the effects of everything that’s been going on… maybe you need a vacation, ;D. But it looks like you had a great week! That food looks fabulous!

I have a few more mini vacations coming up, actually. 😉

I would have completely rearranged my schedule, anything NOT to run in the rain. Nothing I hate more.
Good for you listening to your body. Sometimes you need to do that.
No blogger meet up that I am aware of. I will be at the expo Saturday morning, probably for most of the morning because I love expos so much ! Lots of people will pick up their bibs before Saturday I am assuming. You are running the 5K right ? Let’s keep in touch through IG for the afternoon.

I just couldn’t rearrange things due to circumstances. But you never know when it will rain on a race, either! It was only like 35% chance (yeah, right).
I love expos too & it’s been a long time since I’ve been to one!

Running in the cold rain? Ugh! I know sometimes it has to get done but that’s definitely my least favorite running weather – kudos! We got pretty cold but thankfully no snow in Philly yet – we can’t handle it!
Hope things continue to calm down for you.

I don’t think anyone likes running in a cold rain but I’d still take that over heat! I had to break out my medium weight jacket! And I was still chilled! And gloves!

Wait a sec…… you got snow already? That is crazy. Too early for that stuff. I hope t not see any in Virginia Beach this year. That brunch looks delicious. I love going to brunch after a longer run.

A quiet week sounds pretty perfect about now, especially if you weren’t feeling great. Ugh to the rainy snow. Just, ugh.

Hi Judy – sometimes we really need to listen to your body and take a break. I know, as runners that’s not always an easy thing to do….I think we always feel guilty about resting 🙂
5 weeks is a good time frame to get your fitness back on for your upcoming Half. I have a Half next weekend and because of a stomach bug my training was on hold for almost 2 weeks. Sometimes stuff like this happens. But we keep rolling anyway!
Have a great week Judy!!!

Thanks, Ilka. Not running yesterday was definitely the right call. I’ve gotten a lot better at listening to my body!

Ack, snow!!! I am so not ready for the white stuff. I have gotten pretty good about listening to my body, sometimes we just need that extra rest. Have a good week my friend!

With all the things you’ve been through lately, I would imagine your body needs some downtime. Yes, it’s pretty flat for our next half. It’s the humidity I’m worried about. Fingers crossed. It was very nice for your friend to meet you for a rainy run. Thanks for linking, Judy!

Snow… already? I’m going to quit complaining about the heat right now! I seem to get chilled down to the bone… a long hot shower afterwards seems to help out. Those protein bars look good… I’ll have to check them out.

Snow??? What? I know it’s time for yall but dang we just can’t get away from the 90’s during the day. It’s gotten slightly cooler at night but it sure makes it hard to dress for the work day when it’s cool out but warms up so quick! Just yesterday I had on a dress, bare legs and my sandals with a jacket. The jacket quickly came off!

90s. Yeah, I remember those days in TX. Just you wait til it’s winter and you’re in the 60s and we’re freezing our butts off!
