Pretty sure I’ve used that title before! I was supposed to be at my moms for New Years. Then a couple of days before there were several cases of COVID in the workers, the day before more and cases in the residents as well. It was a difficult decision, but I decided to stay home. The upside to that was I was already feeling very run down, so I have been able to rest a lot.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and trying to welcome a new year — cautiously.

Running Update

Monday Intention: Recover
It was a cold one with no sun, but also very little wind. I was tempted to go more than one mile, knowing this week would still be iffy weather-wise and travel-wise, but I felt that after a week of little running better to be cautious rather than push it.

Wednesday Intention: go long-er
I again missed the gently falling snow of earlier in the day. I wore trail shoes, just in case, and there were some snowy patches going out, which were almost all melted by the time I came back. Took exactly as long as last week’s snowy, slightly slippery in spots run. Slow but upright.

Thursday Intention: recover & treadmill test
Yup, I have a functioning treadmill again. It goes up and down, too (the old one stopped doing that years ago). Man, this slow run on it still felt hard! But quieter. I actually used the incline with the Peloton recovery run I did. I even made it 2 miles because there still wasn’t a whole lot of running this week.

Favorites of the week
We did watch some of the new movies released to streaming this week. Mostly hits, with one big miss: Don’t Look Up (Netflix). Well, if you enjoy dumb humor and a boring movie — seriously, I didn’t even want to finish watching it. And it was a long movie. Such a waste of talent!
We enjoyed Unforgiveable (Netflix). We also enjoyed Being the Ricardos (Amazon Prime) — Javier Bardem totally nailed Desi Arnez.
There was also the annual viewing of Love Actually last week, and I also watched Sleepless in Seattle too.
Having a functioning treadmill again is definitely a favorite!

ICYMI: I got talkative this week! Above is the thumbnail from post-run where I’m talking about what you can do instead of resolutions (although resolutions are fine too). I also counted down my top ten most viewed videos in 2021, with a few surprises — to me, anyway. Another short talk about how to battle the loneliness of the season, and yet another one about how to do a quick morning routine.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday borrowed from my Channel video countdown and am sharing my most viewed blog posts in 2021. Friday of course I’m grabbing some hot chocolate to catch up with y’all!
Glad to read you got some much needed downtime, Yay for your new treadmill-I know you have been wanting one for a while. I also watched don’t look up and thought it was just ok and a little too long. It did entertain me on my plane ride home last week. Happy new year!

Yes, I’m one of those weird runners & I really missed having a working treadmill. Now to actually not have two there, LOL!

Hooray for the new TM! What will you do with the old treadmill? Where we live, we just drag that stuff out to the street and the scrappers come by and pick them up. It’s nice not to have to pay to get it hauled away, lol.
I hope you feel better this week, Judy.

What to do with the old mill is still a question. We don’t have that service here — wish we did!

Congrats on the tm. I know you like having one.
Haven’t at home much in TV lately. Been pretty busy.
Hope you feel better.
I’m just happy we haven’t had cold weather yet and I can get my runs in when I put them in the schedule. As I have lots of big races coming up.

We’ve been pretty lucky with weather so far. Good luck to you on it keeping up!

My guess is you won’t be going back to the office this Winter at least.

It’s day by day. Who knows. It’s not Covid but if the labs open for training. Remote doesn’t work for what we do.

Sorry you couldn’t visit your Mom, but I’m sure it was the right call. Apparently 7% of my city was tested last week with a 20% positivity rate — and we have a decent vaccination rate.
Yay on the new treadmill! Are you going to post more about it? Which one you got? Why? Those of us with aging treadmills want to know!

I know I made the right decision about the visit but it’s still hard on my mom. In fact she had a really bad night after I told her, which probably was a coincidence but she’d been doing much better recently.
As to the new treadmill of course I’ll share more but will need to spend more time with it first!

I’m glad your new treadmill has brought some joy to the season for you. With our little Florida gig, my Milly situation can be procrastinated further, LOL. I’m hoping I won’t need to spend much time with her when we return to Iowa in February…but it will still be in the thick of the winter season. All of my wishful thinking cannot change that reality.

February is the worst month of Winter! Usually, anyway. I know this because my birthday falls in Feb, LOL!
We’ve had an unusually mild Winter so far, but it wouldn’t be the first time that happened & then got really slammed in Jan/Feb.
I was just happy that the price didn’t drop further after the holidays.

I hate the treadmill but I admit that we need it when the weather outside is brutal.
I would like to buy another TM but I remember all the troubles because the cats used it as their private toilet. For this reason I had to fold first and then cover it with a waterproof blanket or to take it to another room. So this situation became an annoying commitment. Not to mention the maintenance, if it wasn’t well oiled it didn’t work well.

We had a piece of carpet under our old one that folded over the tread. Because the cats liked to throw up grass on it. Luckily they didn’t use it as a toilet!

We are debating going to the movies one morning this week. The seats are spaced out and it’s never too crowded in the morning. I miss the movies. I don’t want to see Don’t Look Up, and I’m not ready to see Unforgiveable. I did see and love Encanto, and I’m now watching The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

I miss movies in a theater too! But for myself personally right now I’m not going to do it — so happy that there have actually been some new ones on streaming lately.
I was actually excited about Don’t Look Up so it was a big disappointment.

I’m sorry you couldn’t visit your mom, but it sounds like it was the right call. I’m glad you got a little downtime.
Don’t Look Up was such a waste of so much talent – very disappointing.
Congrats on the new treadmill – while never my favorite to run on, it’s always nice to have it as an option!

Totally agree on Don’t Look Up, obviously.
We’ve been lucky with weather so far but I’m sure at some point there’ll be a storm.

I didn’t mind Don’t Look Up that much! I mean, it’s not about a meteor but about climate change and how frustrating scientists feel towards the rest of us. It kept me entertained enough to stay up and finish it. But everyone has different tastes in movies! I haven’t watched the other two you mentioned, but will probably get to them eventually with all my treadmill time, ha! Glad you have a working treadmill and wow you must have a big living room to fit two in there. There are times like this weekend when it was brutally cold here that my husband and I would benefit from two, but instead we have to take turns. He did his long run on it after I did an easy 8 on there. It gets a lot of use over here, that’s for sure 🙂

I understood the themes of Don’t Look Up — & they were good themes! But just not a good movie IMHO.
I’m the only one that uses the mill so we definitely don’t need two, especially since the old one doesn’t work properly. The hard part is figuring out how to get rid of it! But no the room isn’t huge. But I’m still able to get on my Yoga mat in there. 😊

Congrats on the new mill! That’s so exciting and I can’t wait to hear more about the one you chose. My 21+ yr old relic is going strong but it is loud. We watched Don’t Look Up as well and I thought it was meh. I did enjoy Unforgivable, but I think it got off to a slow start.

I’ll admit I slept through parts of Unforgiveable which has nothing yo do with the movie & everything to do with being exhausted. Still saw enough to like it & probably watch it over at some point.

If I moved up north, the very first thing I would do would be to order a treadmill, so I’m glad you have a working one! Yes, you have to get rid of that second one, you definitely don’t need two, ha ha.
I hope you’re feeling better! Staying home, resting, and avoiding the Covid was a good decision.

Somehow I don’t see you enjoying a treadmill! And yup, we definitely don’t need a treadmill that doesn’t work properly. Just need to figure how to get rid of it! It would’ve been easy if it actually worked properly.

Covid put such a damper on many holiday plans these past two weeks – such a bummer 😦
Hooray for having a functional treadmill again! I’m sure it will come in handy as we get more cold weather and snow this Winter.

It’s even handy if I want to do a run before I go to my mom — getting dressed in a gazillion layers & then trying to warmup — it just all takes time!
Much easier to knock out a mile or two in a skirt & tank & shower. 🙂

Oh no, I’m so sorry Covid has hit your mom’s place so hard and you weren’t able to visit. I hope she’s able to stay safe.
Yay for getting your new treadmill! So exciting!
I love that fencepost style snowman family! I need to show that to my friend and have her daughter make one like it. 🙂

I have been getting a lot of use out of our treadmill this week! I’m glad yours is working. I have habit of not finishing movies. I just went though my DVR and deleted several movies I never finished. And the Olympics. I heard they are happening again soon 😉 I hope the new year it starting out well for you!

I definitely didn’t have as much time for the summer Olympics as I wanted. I imagine it’s not easy to watch anything with a toddler!
