There wasn’t much going on this week. I realized part of why my paces was so slow in my trail race last week — I was coming down with something. Not apparently COVID, and not terrible, but enough to make me rest a lot, especially since I have to go to my moms a few days next week. Or do I? Well yes, I do. It’s been back and forth with that kind of stuff with her all month long. I’m not sure I really came down with something as much as just being majorly burnt out.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and an unplanned for recovery week. At least I practice what I preach!

Running Update

Saturday intention: long-er run
Had a horrible night of little sleep. Don’t know why; most of the time I sleep pretty good. It was humid and cloudy this morning. The first mile wasn’t bad, except for the bugs. I thought it was our recent storms, but it thankfully let up after that and the rest was not too buggy.
I was dragging big time though. It was much faster than my race last Sunday, but these aren’t technical trails and there aren’t big hills (even if it felt as though I was going uphill both ways). Definitely not the week I wanted, but at least I finally got out there. I’m all for taking running breaks when I choose to; I hate being forced to take them! I know if I pushed through this either I’ll feel like this longer or I’ll get really sick. Putting on my oxygen mask.

Sunday intention: recover
It was a beautiful, cool morning for a recovery run. I slept much, much better last night. When I arrived there was some mist rising off the river but I couldn’t capture that. Easy, slow recovery run followed by a snack and some journaling by the river. It soothes my soul.

Favorites of the week
This week was all about recovery. I didn’t really feel recovered on yesterday’s run, but I had been feeling better, so I’m chalking that up to really poor sleep.
Yes, after a lot of back and forth of will she/won’t she I will be heading to my moms for a couple of nights tomorrow. I do have a new place to visit on the way there so stay tuned.
ICYMI: As runners we know how important our mental game is — the problem is actually taking the time to work on it. This practice targets your Spleen Meridian, which can help to decrease worry. Physically it can help with digestion and low back pain. Practice with me here,
Coming up on Tuesday: I’ll be wrapping up August. Friday it’s time togather over mugs of hot — or cold — beverages!
Sorry to hear about the poor sleep. I hate when that happens for no apparent reason. Steam off the water is definitely difficult to capture. We had a couple of mornings here this week where the steam was gorgeous! Cheers to recovery time!

Yes the most was too far out to capture with a phone! It was lovely though.

I am feeling better, thanks, but getting everything together for tomorrow. O where to eat so I have to bring stuff with me.

Sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well earlier in the week. There’s a lot of “ick” going around lately – not Covid, but more like a flu/cold type of thing.

Truly it was burn out. A lot of stressful stuff went on this month & my body really isn’t a fan of the heat! The rest did help though.

It sounds like your body demanded some down time. Hope you banked enough for your visit to your Mom’s.
I do love the photo under the bridge. Lots of angles to catch the eye!

Thanks, Coco! This visit shouldn’t be as taxing as some of the most recent ones — except for the fact that once again it’s going to be hot. 😦

Well I’m back at my mom for a couple of days. Never restful unfortunately. We don’t do much but it’s still not restful!

I completely get that- not doing much but it’s not restful. It’s stressful. Maybe next week then!

I’ll bet you do! Yes hopefully next week will be more restful. I want to run Thursday (day after I get back) but I know I’ll be better served by a rest day. Which means only 2 days of running again this week. Luckily I have time before my next race — if I sign up for it!

I hope you’re feeling much better by now and that you have an uneventful visit with your mom. I had something similar happen about a month ago where I had a horrible bike ride and woke up the next morning with a bad cold.
Does Bandit get on the lounge chair when one of you isn’t already on it or does he prefer your company?

I am feeling better today except for the heat; thanks! Luckily it’s not supposed to last after tomorrow.

Bandit will go out on his own to lay in the sun on the grass (although he prefers it if I’m out there with him). I haven’t yet found him laying on any of the outdoor furniture if we’re not there.

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling under the weather, hope all is well now. I keep thinking I’m coming down with something but I think it’s just the menopause (hollow laugh). Take care of yourself!

Well, now I’m just tired from another to my mom. The last two times I’ve had to go for multiple days it’s been soooo hot. Today is lovely . . .
