February at its best: 2/1 – 7 WRD

There was nothing remarkable about this week — except for the fact that my mom got her first vaccine. Otherwise, pretty much same old, same old. February is doing what February does best: cold, gray, and snowy. Although I’d still say despite that we’re “enjoying” a somewhat mild Winter.’

I have to admit I don’t really quite remember what I did when in the beginning of the week — it was mainly Yoga, walking, and a little shoveling. I ran three times this week, and even squeezed in a short full body ST session yesterday.

Running Update

Wednesday Intention: work on endurance
Still on the treadmill. I took a “fun” run — seriously, Peloton has to rename these. Every “fun” run I’ve taken is speedwork, and I go in intending to take it easy and then don’t. I did love the 60s soundtrack!

Unfortunately I had to battle wind & of course the sun came out later

Friday Intention: fresh air + a little further
Why yes, I did finally venture outside for a run. It was a lot warmer than it’s going to be next week, although the winds were definitely fierce. Since my Garmin is set to run/walk intervals I just went with that. I was hoping the forecast flurries would fall during my run (and not the Wintry mix, also in the forecast), but there was just wind. No black ice, though, so very happy about that.

Trying to find the beauty in Winter but it’s a Charlie Brown shrub! We need to take a hint from the plants: rest up now to be ready to bloom in Spring.

Sunday Intention: early start (if not snowing) + ease back on distance
Met my intention completely. Much colder than Saturday, but no wind for the win. Running from my house very short distances — so much easier than getting in a long run. It would be hard to run long in my neighborhood in Winter. I was not nearly as tired after this run as I was after Friday’s — that wind makes a big difference.

Because it’s rechargeable, I can literally use it anywhere

Favorites of the week
My new portable essential oil diffuser! I’ve been wanting this forever, but it was always sold out. I freakin’ love this thing, especially the fact that I can move it around from room to room; it’s been used in my Yoga room, the family room, and the living area (which is quite open).

I also love the AirX essential oil I bought at the same time. I’ve had a very slight nagging cough, just enough that I had to take cough medicine in the morning and evening. After the first time I started diffusing AirX I was able to stop the cough meds. I won’t say I don’t cough at all, but it’s much less.

An immunity dessert!

Add Nuun Immunity tablets to the juice and let them dissolve completely to make immunity jello.

Bandit says February is for snuggling

How are you dealing with the snow (if you have it)?

Favorite type of chocolate — dark or milk? As a kid it was milk, now it’s dark — very dark!

Signing up for any real races? Not me, not yet, I think it’ll still be a while for me.

GWY Yin Yoga Saucha

ICYMI: Yin Yoga doesn’t always get into our upper body that much, but this practice will. It targets the Small Intestine — not to mention the hips and hamstrings in addition to the upper body. We’ll be discussing Saucha (decluttering/cleanliness — you can read more about it in this post here). I really encourage you to pay attention to what feels right in your body — always important. You’ll find the video here.

Coming up on Tuesday: Five things you may or may not know about me + takeaways for you. Friday I’ll be talking a little about one of our most important muscles. Can you guess which one it is?

  1. Great job getting in some runs this week! I’ve also been glad to not have long runs to do. I think the most I’ve done in awhile is 9. This week was very tricky with the weather. I prefer dark chocolate!

  2. I think you know all my answers. I hate running at the Crossings every week but all the paths still have snow on them. Otherwise I just drive somewhere so I don’t have to run in the boring neighborhood.

Of course as races are scheduled, I am all over them. TY ARE!!

I don’t really like chocolate much but if I had a choice it would be DARK except for my weekly long run chocolate milk.

Glad to see that you are feeling well enough to run. I used my bike this am when I should have gone on my hike. I guess it will be a snowy one.

      1. Yes. Especially when you can only run between 12 and 1 pm.

And the snow stopped and I got in a great long hike with a waterfall. 🙂

  3. I’m so happy that your mom was able to get the first dose of the vaccine. Every time I hear about anyone getting the vaccine I’m just so excited for them. Gives me hope that a sense of normalcy will come some time this year.

The weather certainly didn’t make it easy, so great job on your runs this week!

  4. Glad your mum got her vaccine – more and more people I know are getting it here and it helps things to feel a little brighter. I will run in falling snow but not ice, like most people, I think. And dark choc, please!

    1. I know a lot of people who are getting it. But I don’t see it happening for myself for months most likely. One time it doesn’t pay to be healthy (but of course it always does).

I thought there’d be ice this morning but there was none.

  5. What an interesting way to make jello. I actually eat the SF jello almost everyday it’s a nice treat. Glad your mom got here shot. MY parents now have both of their doses but they are still hibernating in their house. Great job getting out for your runs this week the weather sure is challenging

  6. My parents are getting their vaccines tomorrow; my FIL got his on Friday. It’s such a relief to see things finally moving forward!

    Glad you’re finally feeling better!

    Team dark chocolate!

  7. How are you dealing with the snow (if you have it)? I don’t have much choice here. WI gets snow. I just look forward to seeing spring.

Favorite type of chocolate — dark or milk? As a kid it was milk, now it’s dark — very dark! Both.

Signing up for any real races? Not me, not yet, I think it’ll still be a while for me. I would like to but none are live around here. Maybe Fall, but unlikely.

  8. What you said about running in the wind (or, against it LOL). UGH. I don’t especially like a windy run in the summer, either, but it’s downright brutal in the winter. My parents are really having a time getting their vaccine shots scheduled…total mess. Ironically, as much as I detest the treadmill, the two TM runs I’ve recently done have been more fun than “yuck” because of the constantly change of the speed settings (my coping crutch). Stay warm!!

    1. Wind can definitely be brutal any time of year. But right now my runs are short so it’s easier to get out there.

I also knew there’s a pretty good chance of treadmill runs this coming week so I wanted to get out there while the roads were clear — even if it was cold.

    2. I’m sorry about your parents & the vaccine. Hopefully they’ll get an appointment soon. My mom is lucky that she lives where she does; they came right to the community. It was such a fight to get them to go there but it was the right decision in the end.

  9. So glad your mom got her vaccine. I’m still trying to get my parents set up but I’m hopeful we’ll get them squared away soon.

Good job getting out for a bit despite the weather. We’re getting hit pretty hard today with snow so I’m preparing for more mill running this week.

    1. We didn’t get that much, again. But there’s more potential for it next week & much colder — I expect some treadmill runs, too.

I hope your parents are able to get vaccinated soon. It definitely takes some worry off.

  10. Oh, great idea on the Nuun jello! I always have to look at the Peloton app and Garmin app to remember my workouts from earlier in the week. Once I’m done, I’m done! I agree on the Peloton “fun” runs — but I prefer intervals to steady pace on the treadmill, so they are more fun for me. 😉

Yay on your Mom getting vaccinated!v

    1. I agree on intervals on the treadmill — but right now I need endurance more than speed. I find Peloton makes that easier!

Thanks. Yes, getting her vaccinated is a relief. My MIL had her first recently too. Apparently my SIL did a lot of work trying to make it happen & then her dr was just able to do it!

  11. Yay Bandit!

My parents got their first vaccine on Saturday, so that was good. My mom is worried about the second shot, but we are just staying positive.

I am all about the dark chocolate. It’s sooooo good.

    1. I know everyone has different reactions, but mostly I’m hearing the younger you are the worse the reaction seems to be — fingers crossed! I know you worried about her so that must be a relief.

  12. used to be white chocolate (yes, I know, not actually chocolate), but now milk. I so identify with that Charlie Brown shrub
Was supposed to be running the Frozen Penguin but it wad cancelled on account of snow and ice. No interest in any others.

  13. That is great news about your mom!!! As you know, my mom is getting hers today. I just have to deal with getting her out of the house since there is still snow and ice on the sidewalk.

Lots of snow here and I hate it. We need to fast forward to March.

    1. Good luck with your mom today! That was the benefit of a senior community — they arranged to have it done there.

We have snow, but we’ve actually been lucky most of the storms have been downgraded and we don’t get as much. Plenty of cold this week though & most likely more snow.

      1. Thank you. I am thankful the hospital had vaccines available but I do wished it would have been easier to get there. It was a “long” walk for her to get to the vaccination room and someone had to take in a wheelchair.

  14. Glad your mom got her vaccine! My inlaws went on a wild goose chase that involved a 3 hr drive (my husband took them) but they finally got theirs too. I’m not sure where they’ll get the second one though. My mom on the other hand is in no rush. She stays home and doesn’t stress about it.
I’m going to guess that mystery muscle is the one that is the star of this month. Heart!

    1. I’m pretty sure my mom will continue to wear her mask as well. She’s very cautious— which isn’t a bad thing.

Just another reason I’m glad my Dad is no longer here. I very much doubt he would have worn a mask at all.

  15. I’m so glad your mom got the vaccine!! I am still waiting to hear from my parents when they will get it. I worry about dad since he’s still recovering from cancer treatments.

We’ve had a ton of snow so I only walked once in it. It is just not very doable and I don’t have the right shoes!

I’m a dark chocolate person all the way!

we have a virtual “race” this weekend – I hope I can actually get outside. I’m not racing though – just probably doing walk/run intervals since it’s 10K.

    1. Hope your parents can get it soon. It’s really been a mess. 😔

You definitely need the right shoes for snow! Good luck this weekend. Even if you’re not really planning to race somehow we push harder at a race. Not that I’d know anything about that any more!
