Running Update

Tuesday Intention: work those hill (while I can)
It was definitely a cold one, but very little wind. I can handle that (and I did). Plus with a potentially wicked storm bearing down on us for the weekend . . . I decided to work the hills, just a little. Up the short one, over to the longer one & then down the long one, back over to the short one and up — walking as I pleased.
Pace was all over the place. Definitely slow on the hills. Last mile (flat-ish) felt slow, and yet was the fastest mile. Perception is weird.

Friday Intention: take it easy
I try to have only one treadmill run a week. Last January, I ran 7 miles on NYD, got sick, then ran the rest of my runs at the end of the month on the treadmill!
So temperature is relative. It’s amazing how “warm” a 40F rain feels in January, after we’ve gone through a lot of single digit days. What might not have been so wise is that I stopped to talk to a neighborhood friend I hadn’t seen in a very long time to catch up mid run, while still being rained on — but hey, I finished the run!

Sunday Intention: endurance
Still bitterly cold, but not windy — I was tempted to run outside except making my way down our driveway (or even lawn) would’ve been treacherous. We have our own ski jump on that driveway! I suppose I could’ve butt slid down it, but again, thankful the treadmill was an option.
I picked an endurance run, although apparently the universe wanted me to do hills this week because there were rolling hills. I took it nice and slow, and cut out the last two hills since I’d already met my goal of 3 miles (they were in like the last 5 minutes!).

Favorites of the week
Say it with me: another quiet week! Which isn’t so bad considering how I ended 2021. A couple of cold and/wet runs done outside, one of the treadmill. Seriously, if the driveway and roads weren’t so bad, I think I would have braved the cold.
I know it looks like Winter has been hard, but the truth is we’ve actually been extremely lucky. Very little snow so far. Lots of cold, but there’s a warming trend for next week and we’ll finally get that driveway cleared — we both tried, but the ice followed by extreme cold just made it impossible.
So I am grateful that so far, knock on wood, Winter has been “mild) (again, it’s all relative). We’re not out of the woods yet, though!
Of course I am also watching the Olympics, always a favorite, but I tape it watch it later.

ICYMI: Expect a lot of heart openers in this immune boosting restorative practice — and grab all the the props!. I have a little tease for my Spring Yoga Program. Hopefully I finish it all before Spring is over!

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday I’m sharing six things I enjoyed about running in 2021 — I thought it would be challenging, and it was, but I came up with six! Friday I’m sharing five things I’m loving lately.
I try to have 0 TM runs per week and for the most part, I am successful! :p But ice is definitely a dealbreaker for me. We’ve still got snow and I always prefer that.
We never use the ‘q’ word, especially at work, because you know if you say it, things will start happening!

We had SO much ice Friday. The driveway is just unpassable until it warms up enough to start melting & that’s not today!

Yes. A cold week. And an icy one. But when you are training for races I have to get out there even in sub zero. I’m getting bored with the crossings but less treacherous than my street.
Things look better because I’m hitting the road.
Hopefully the ice will be gone when I return. I doubt the bike paths will be clear until spring.
Glad you are enjoying your new treadmill so you get some short runs done.

It’s supposed to warm up this week so ice should melt. But no not from the paths for a long time.

Too bad. But it’s no different than other years. At there are races again.

I took a ‘salt cave’ yoga class once many years ago, but I like the idea behind their benefits.
Glad you have that new treadmill for these icy cold days! Hopefully spring will make its way to us sooner than the groundhog said . 🙂

We have a salt cave near us I used to go to. Never did do yoga there, although they did offer it at one point *no longer).

You know how I feel about my Milly time, and she saw more action last week than she’s seen in the past 11 months. I’m glad we were able to resucsitate her, though. The wind has been just psychotic here or else I would have layered up and run outside becasue there wasn’t any ice to fight/avoid.

We had the wind, plus the cold, the rain, the ice, the snow. Everything but warm (well, it was warm for winter).
Seriously though the driveway is a sheet of ice. We’re getting our workouts in trying to chip away at it. It’ll warm up thankfully.

It is nice that you have your new treadmill for those icy days. Hope you get that warm up this week!

It is actually supposed to get warmer after today. For a while. No 60s though (or anything close).

We had a lot of ice come overnight on Friday. It was a little bit of an adventure trying to get it off of my car on Saturday morning. I was glad today was slightly warmer so that it could melt some of the ice around the outside of the house.
One of my goals this month is to improve my sleep health. I’ve never owned a salt lamp, but now I’m intrigued since you mentioned it helps you feel cozy before bedtime. I’m going to look into purchasing one.

I don’t know that a salt lamp would help you sleep better, all I can say is I really enjoy mine. We don’t have a fireplace so that’s about the closest I come, LOL!
There are many for sale on Amazon. I bought mine quite some time ago at our local Salt Den — and one once at Marshalls. I have one downstairs, and then another in the kitchen, too. They get warm, especially the ones downstairs & in the kitchen that we don’t turn off — so they’re good hand warmers, too, LOL. They do shed a little, though.

We’ve had snow, but it’s less than usual. It has been plenty cold though so none of our snow has melted, although that’s normal I guess. Rain would feel like spring at this point! Haha! Ice is the worst!

We’ve had way less snow than normal, too. No big storms. I don’t mind, but it ain’t over yet!

I almost chose the same post name. Our icy sidewalks are ridiculous. We had warm RAIN on Friday, but everything iced up overnight and this morning there were still sheets of ice in a few places — stretching for a few yards even!
I’m glad your getting good use out of your new tread. Still waiting for that full review. 😉

I have started the review. 😊 We’re a lot colder. It sleeted overnight & most of the day Friday, too. I am grateful we never lost power!

I’m glad you had a good week! A quiet week is a good thing. And glad you got some outside runs. I’m watching the Olympics too- I wasn’t that excited about it before it started but I’m really enjoying it!

I always enjoy the Olympics! And yes, quiet is good.

The ice (and that ski jump on the driveway!) sounds scary! Keep staying safe and I hope it starts to warm up real soon!

It’s SO frustrating. It’s been 3 days & it’s STILL impossible to make headway on the driveway. The major roads are ok . . .

The treadmill is the right solution for such weather.
Better days will come and you can run outside.
Here it’s sunny and my outdoor runs are priceless!

I’m glad you’re getting out there to run! I’d like to but it’s been challenging.

Ice is a deal-breaker for me. I thought we’d seen the end of it in mild old England, but my husband reported some slippery corners on his early morning walk today!

There is literally still about 2” of ice on the driveway. I’m envious of all the neighbors with flat driveways. 😔 I’m sorry you’re still finding it too!

And we have had a super hard winter. But I’m glad things were more mild for you. I haven’t been watching the Olympics, but I know a lot of people are.

Trust me our mild would kill the southerners! We haven’t had a lot of snow. The ice is so much worse though!

I’m so not a fan of mill running but am always grateful for it when the alternative is icy roads. Hopefully, we’ll get a break this week. Nice to hear that you had another quiet week.

My feelings are pretty similar. I do appreciate it for getting in a short run when time crunched sometimes.

You guys have gotten hit by a couple of storms that just barely missed us. Here’s hoping you get an early spring!

Well, I think you guys actually got more snow than us so far! We haven’t had much snow.
What we did have with the last storm is a LOT of ice, and then extreme cold.
I’ve been working on the driveway at least 20 minutes (often much more) for a week and it’s still not clear — I go into that a bit more on my wrap up this weekend.
